Laurie’s size is abit of a concern,Papenhuyzen being such a lightweight his head and body have been put in some very dangerous positions when getting tackled.Tedesco is much bigger in size than Laurie or Paps,Sivo ran over Teddy last year,he wasn’t the same player when he returned

I agree Daine probably needs to gain 5kg in muscle (currently 83kg) to hold his own. However he'll be 22 this year and will fill out over the next couple.

In saying that, Brett Hodgson one of our favourite sons and one of the best fullbacks in the 2000 era played his career at 78kg.

Mate it'snteresting how the game has changed, the great Graham Langlands played at just over 12 stone about 178kg.

I agree, it feels like players have been forced to get bigger and stronger to compete over the last 20 years.

In our constantly evolving competition it's slowly changing to benefit smarter and lighter players with good footwork and ball playing skills.

The introduction of the six again, the death of the wrestle and scrum and refs blowing whistles on the third man in a tackle like it's a basketball game means all these new rules are undeniably changing how rugby league is played.

If you're not quick and mobile in 2021, players like Fafita, Taumalolo, Asofa-Solomona and even our own Ofahengaue and Twal will struggle.

I'm sure Madge understands the changes and is coaching accordingly.

You don't think Taumalolo is mobile?

So sick of the constant Cameron smith bashing have a listen to bloke ina bar podcast with him he sounds like a legend I really don’t get why every 1 hates him I’d love to see him run around again he’s literally the best player to ever play the game

What is there to like about a salary cap cheat that is in denial about being stripped of two titles?
What is there to like about a mug who comments as follows re Alex McKinnon, "If he doesn't duck his head, that doesn't happen."
What is there to like about a cheat who influences refs on how to rule on games?

Great player - yes. Great person - no.

Brett finch is on record saying when he played for Melbourne it was the only time he wasn’t getting paid under the table so it was a level playing field in my eyes

And have you ever played a game of footy? Things get heated out there your not thinking clearly I’m sure if you asked him about it today he would have a different view in the hole thing also have you watched the hole incident he starts by saying it’s a horrible thing and we obviously never want it in our game channel 9 happend to miss that

And can you really blame him for trying to influence the reffs? He’s trying to win the game not his folt the reffs listen to him haha

Just sick of the media giving it to the bloke

TBH - I don't know what it is you would like about him as a person but that's up to you and I'm not judging you on that.
I think it's interesting that you would give greater creedence to Finch over an NRL investigation. It's also interesting you would ignore the proof of Inglis having two signed contracts. What else do you need to understand that cheating occured?

Whether I have played tiddleywinks, NBA, NFl or NRL is irrelevant when it comes to understanding the 'heat of the moment.' We all have those moments and there are times when we do realise the need to back off and apologise - done it myself on a number of occassions. As far as I am aware, Smith has never shown remorse for his comments.

Yeah mate not trying to argue with we just have different opinions of smith
And I’m aware the club did cheat the cap but Brett finch was saying every 1 was doing it and Melbourne was the only place he didn’t get paid under the table

In the current game yes, but hit ups and offloads won't nearly be as effective with all the rule changes.

Forwards are still going to have to go head first, but they'll also need to be flexible enough to shift laterally, and throw a good pass (left or right) to the back line in order to constantly stretch the field.

The one and done or prop and drop play will rarely work due to how fast the game is now.

Thats because a boat wouldn't fit under the table
Melbourne got caught and that's why they got stripped of two titles
What dont you understand about that
Do you think that these players thought recieving boats was part of their contract
Come on
We all know Cameron is a great player
No one can deny that
Its his perceived arrogance that irritates many of us
I for one wouldn't entertain the idea of holding out till the last second to find out if he is playing for us or someone else
Or even playing for that matter
No one is bigger than the game
Not even Cameron
Make a decision so clubs can get on with it

Imaging being a player training your backside off knowing you are the starting hooker only for Cameron to come in at the last second to steel your spot
How would you feel
I cant see him going to another club this late in the piece
Its either Melbourne or Retirement IMO

I can understand our fear of playing overs for players, based on poor previous buys. The reality is though that nearly every club has at least 1 and sometimes 3 marque players in their roster. The simple fact is that you will not get a quality key player under $700,000. At the end of this season many clubs are cleaning their rosters of underperforming players, the Sharks have 15. If you look at the quality players off contract at the years end, you will not see many. It will be a bidding war. We presently have a good squad, but with a lot of doubts, especially in the backs. Crichton may be a gamble, but so is every signing. It's of no use having at least 1.5 mill to spend if there are no players in the market, or in competing with 6 or more clubs.

For me Hastings signings (if true) is a no brainer.
We loose Reynolds and Walters all we have is a pretty big hole in the halves.
Inconsistent Brooks, untied Madden and Doueihi.
Hastings brings an experienced reasonably to low cost back up to the back line and perhaps hooker.
And ***don’t start with playing in the super league and being named man of steel in England is an easy gig***. That’s just rubbish from hyped up Aussie league fans that believe they are the gods gift to rugby league world.

Rangi Chase, Adrian Vowles, Dean Bell.....Men of Steel.

Thanks for the history lesson.... not!
I note you just noted a few.
touché

And those few were still pretty handy, Bell played 26 test matches, Vowles played origin and Chase was no slouch

Range chase was a reserve grader here , or fringe nrl at best . It’s not because we are elitist , it’s because it’s true .

Brett Hodgson 2009

??? What do you mean ?are you saying 2009 Brett Hodgson was in his prime ? Pretty sure 2009 Brett Hodgson was released because we thought he was past it .( he wasn’t but he wasn’t at his peak either )

Yes some players who were average here have gone on to win Man of Steel over there. The flip side is plenty of Poms who've killed it here, including Ellis, never won Man of Steel when they were over there.

At the end of the day, winning the Man of Steel is not proof you'll do great here, but geez it hardly hurts does it? Plenty of Aussies have gone over there and sulked, put in average performances and coasted, or got into off field dramas. But we're complaining about a bloke that went over there and thrived?

And he didn't just thrive in a champion team like Wigan or St Helens, he thrived at little, perennially hopeless, Salford.

I agree. Even if we admit the standard is closer to NSW Cup than NRL, if we were offered a half/5-8 that had dominated for three seasons, had played in weak teams and made them better, had played in finals in front of big crowds, then why wouldn't you take the chance. I don't know of many top halves that are out there.

You just described Billy Margoulis (not a half I acknowledge). Tore up and was a star in Reggies, unwanted in firsts by anyone.

I heard on the forum that we were looking at him! Anyway, we'll see what happens - might depend on whether or not Walters goes to Broncos, cheers

It’s been proven he’s a CHEAT !
He negotiated his own contracts
(Self managed) when the Storms cooked the books .
Plus he’s a FLOG .

I get sick of the amount of times i hear,;;-HE IS THE BEST EVER PLAYER, tag. Thurston,Slater, the last two to leave had it .The only one i think is near that praise was Thurston. Over the years there were many, Wally,Johns,Lockier, the list is endless, i just wish he would piss-off .

What ? How do you figure that . If you have a retreating defence because of a faster play the ball how doesnt that help a guy , who at the peak of slow , BJJ black belt rugby league , was running through everyone ? That sounds like the exact opposite to what’s going to happen .

The NRL has a few $1m players, but Smith was never one of them. Unfortunate set of circumstances?

I would like to know how many brown paper bags he received, plus cheap mortage, plus car, plus expenses, plus tv adds,(third party ?). I believe the Donkeys players bought houses considerably cheaper then market value.

I have no idea what you're talking about? Read your post.

Our forward pack will always have to set the platform both in attack and defense.

But if our pack isn't mobile enough due to all the changes and how the quick the game is, we'll be in trouble.

Does that make sense?

I guess, but the speed of the game changes every year with the rules. The NRL either sees a drop in ratings and needs to speed the game up, or they see too many injuries and try to slow it down. The game will never get to a point where offloads are not a devastating part, unless they remove 10m offside rule (i.e. it won't).
