Looking at our roster and assuming we sign Amone, Tuilagi to the top 30 we have 29 and plenty of cap room.

Packer, Mbye, Walters replaced and upgraded will get us into contention. This team as constructed may take another 12 months but Madge is building a total squad.

?

I'd prefer we try and promote the talent from within myself

Why go out and sign these talented youngsters from elsewhere if we aren't going to have them training and learning from the best players our club has to offer

I don’t disagree but the squad is quite young Blore, Utoikamanu, Luciano, Simpkin, Douihei, Laurie, Simpkins, Tuilagi. More young players 50 - 100 games would be ideal.

Then Amone doesn't fit that bill ..does he ??

He kinda does. Still young and hasn't played heaps of first grade and was making the Souths bench regularly before injury. Can't really complain about a dirt cheap depth signing, you've gotta have them at the club

9 interchange bench starts in 2 years ...cmon really ...probably amounts to 3-4 nrl games at best .....Sheens and Bennett both always spoke about 50 NRL games ....a few more 50 games NRL players would be nice ......

Happy ,who do you want ? Who’s out there that fits the Bill? Especially if the club has trained all offseason with certain kids positioned as the starters .

I'd prefer we back a junior who we think has a lot of potential who we snatched from another club ....I just don't see what a 24 year with virtually no experience brings to the squad ......

Pick the right kid (and this is supposedly Hartigan's strength ) and the junior will probably surpass Amone's abilities by seasons end and be much younger ...sorry the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion

Yea ok . I agree with you. Maybe they think they can have thier cake and eat it too with the development contracts and CC cup later in the year. But I get your point . To me with AD , The jet , and such , they might be players with amone who the coach has a soft spot for.

Amone isn't worth wasting a cap position on ....reality ...if we are sticking to a junior policy ...stick to the policy is all I'm saying ...one of the WT's biggest mistakes in our history is not backing decisions made for the future to the absolute hilt

Yea . I’ve got to say I understand that view point . I can’t say I have an honest take personally . I don’t remember ever seeing Amone play . But I will say this . I cannot remember a single forward who we’ve recruited since Madge , and harty joined that I’ve wondered “huh , I don’t get it” .
And we have had a lot of those guys in recent years . With every single guy in the pack we’ve signed lately I’ve thought , “yep that makes sense “ . So as Amone is a forward , I’ve going to reserve judgement for later I think.

It actually astounds me that some question the acquisition of Tamou. Seriously, are people blind?

This signing was always the key to short term success a very astute one.

If Tamou influences on the team are as great as we all seem to think, maybe a position at the club after his playing career is over might be a big positive for the club to foster a great culture here.

Amone,a handy tough forward never goes astray. Injuries, suspensions, concussion protocols will take there toll on the whole side, but particularly the forwards. We have good depth in most positions which appears to be aim of our recruitment staff, and for minimum money its a smart move.
I think more of a development player,i suspect they will upgrade Tullagie, (forgive spelling)

Remember the years where if Woods or Buchanan went down we were done?

I remember last year when musgrove went down

I am mad pumped for the Tom Amone signing. Our forward pack has to be close to one of the biggest in the comp with his addition. How about the depth too.

I honestly do not even know this football club anymore.

Job well done by Hartigan and Madge.

from Twitter

James Tamou just ensured every player on the bench high-fived every player coming from the field at half-time. It’s the little things. #NRLTrial

Basketball trait.

It’s definitely a make or break year for Thomas Mikaele...

I don’t think his developed or advanced his game at all since he came on the scene, personally I’d let him walk (he just gives the impression of being disinterested) and go after someone like Jordan Riki we have an abundance of props that play with a lot more heart then Tom.

Fair point!

I can't remember a pre season when I have really appreciated the new signings, players who have moved on. For once we have filled problem areas like speed, big boppers and a natural leader.
For me there appears to me to be a lack of quality Second Rowers and Locks on the market.
I think with Blore, T Simpkins and Kelma Tuilagi we have 3 gun players.
I would like all three given extensions and Tuilagi moved into the top 30
Tuki Simpkins in only 2 games has something special about him and can't wait to see him develop into a great lock.
Bring on Round 1

I agree..

Ever since his brother Aloai left he’s been abit disinterested, I could probably see him going to Manly in the future.. but he is a local bronco.

I rate the bloke, but has such a bad attitude..

His a Keebra Park boy I think more then happy to go back to the GC and play with his former school mates from Keebra such as T.Boyd and Fifita etc.

Yeah, he also has hands like wet flippers so wouldn't be heaps upset if he went back home up north.

No chance Riki leaves the Broncos, their organisation seems to be a mess and I don't think Kevvie is the man to fix them, can see the donkeys upgrading Riki on far too much money as a reflex to losing Fifita.

I think Tamou's arrival will change his mindset. You have to believe having a senior Kiwi figure who plays in the same position will have a huge impact on his development.

The best indicator will be about the 6th/7th week mark from the start of the season as to where Madge see Tom fitting into the team.

You would have to say if he isn’t in the top 17 at that point Madge might be going in a different direction.

I thought TomM looked good yesterday admittedly against a beaten pack. Some self belief will do the blokes that have been here a few seasons wonders. I expect him to have a good season. Even Packer yesterday looked energetic and enthusiastic. Fingers crossed for a good start.

similar to a lot of young forwards, once he is aware of how big he is and the damage he can do with his frame, he will improve immensely as a player. there is genuine depth in the forwards now, and he'll have to work hard to retain his spot. hopefully it brings the best out of him.

Mikaele is a young forward who has been thrown to the wolves. Most if not all young props begin their careers off the bench and play a small amount of minutes. Due to our poor pack in recent years Mikaele has been the main man the Tigers have looked at to make metres. No senior forwards leading the way at all in recent years. He will be a completely different player with big senior forwards around him
