Thing is a half in his 30s should only be offered a 2 year deal, or at best a 2+1 in the clubs favour. But knowing us we'll offer Reynolds 750 over 3+1 and then he'll do his knee and play 20 games for us in that time.

2 years at 700k is the max for Reynolds. Offer market rates, especially if he wants to stay in sydney rather than move interstate.

I’m pretty sure 4 or 5 of our forwards ran for over 100 metres last week. This is the best forward pack we have had since I can remember. It’s not the forwards fault he put in 1 good kick all game .

I am sure that last week each of our forwards ran far more than Kepoa did. If he can't handle a kick or pass I don't care how fast a winger is.

What lol. We are talking about Reynolds for Brooks , not sure where kepoa came into this.

if the naysayers are watching this WE NEED REYNOLDS

Naysayers ? That’s an interesting way to look at it . I saw a guy get to his kicks , and shift early to benji and Lattrell .
I didn’t see anything worth 1 mil a year . Which is what it would cost .

Would it? $1.4 mill over 2 years is the current offer.

He'd be worth that.

What do we do with brooks ? Offload to the boys ? Also what do we do in 2024 ? Is madden gonna wait ? Is there a junior coming through ? Not saying I hate it . Just there’s a lot to sort out , the future 3 years from now the most important . Plus you all know I’m pro brooks .

The question is not what do we do with Brooks but what does Brooks do for us
Likely answer : More of the same
We need to be looking for better
Wether that's 2,3 years or 4 years it doesn't matter
I like Brooks loyalty but it has not helped us
2 years from a quality player like Reynolds is better than 4 more years of Brooks
Aren't we all sick of waiting
I'll be in a retirement home soon
Brooks really needs to show more over the next 6 weeks
If he can't then we must go hard for Reynolds

Unfortunately after last night's performance I think souths will have to re sign Reynolds or the supporters will march just like they did to get back in to the league

Did I just see Reynolds going down to Rusty's farm

You’re missing my point . Brooks is 26 , so would have been planned out to 2025 at the earliest as the half . So now , if we get Reynolds , that timeline moves forward , as I don’t think anyone seriously thinks he will last beyond a 2 yr contract .
So then getting/ developing the future half of our team , is really , really important .
Madden will be 24 around then , so maybe it’s him ? But you can’t be so short sighted . If we go for Reynolds , then that means we have to have our halfback of the future in the club at the same time .

Sorry, but I want to win now, not in the future.

We have been saying that for 10 years.

Let the future look after itself.

That's unfrotunately what has happened for some time - go for the sugar hit and instant gratification but in the long term you just rot away.
I want success just like you but we may have to be patient again this year as frustrating and demoralising as it is. We need to think long game.

We need to be patient with our young spine who have played a small amount of games. Brooks has played over 150 games. How much more patient can we be? Unless we are trying to help him set the record for most games played without playing finals.

Yes, he needs to improve. Yes, he has had some shockers. But he also never really had the right go forward other 'star' halves have. It makes a big difference.

Whilst this and most of the recent posts above yours probably belong in another thread, it is important to recall that it was not that long ago our "go forward" was much better in comparison to our competitors. WT were also a side that whilst still leaking our fair share of points, scrambled hard in defence.

On the back of that in 2018 and 19, one Luke Brooks was close to the top of the stats in most areas and won awards as a result. WT have mostly since become a side that is often getting dominated in the middle and leaking a ridiculous number of points.

Maybe chicken and egg, though not the fault of one of the best defensive halves for mine.

I still see some major problems In our forward pack. Reynolds had to make just four tackles last night - and he missed the one that led to a try.
Brooks kicking game can't match Reynolds but Reynolds will be playing a far different role at our club with our pack and the players he has to work with.

Michael Morgan medically retired. I think this is going to trigger some big moves. Brooks & mbye to cowboys, Reynolds to tigers.

I wish Morgan and Friend the best in retirement, though from other clubs not liked by many, their personal achievements in the game deserve some accolades..well done over the years to both...
As far as Moses going,I hope he goes some where that he can play consistent good football to finish his career...I dont know how it all completely works, but if he leaves us I hope we find a suitable candidate that can be as versatile as Mbye has been to us...even though he has critics because of his high salary....

Sounds like a quote from Ivan as he was signing Packer and JRey.

It doesn't make sense.

Walsh and Turner were trading places, so the Broncos would still have a spot left for Billy.

Never heard of Turner, and not really interested

If Benji can hold his own in a quality side so could Brooks. The magic answer is not in recruiting or sacking one player. If the top 6 sides don't prove that you just don't want to see it.

Oh wow. It is *never* Brooks' fault. I feel so sorry for him! Such an amazing player surrounded by losers. We should pay him more to thank him for sticking with us. He's a fine player but he's not winning anyone a competition.

So you say he’s a fine player but we should get rid of him because he can’t single handedly win the comp. Brooks should be able to win the comp for us never mind how the rest of the squad plays?
Well the way I see it, Reynolds works well for the Rabbits because he’s in a spine with Mitchell Cook & Walker and he has a host of quality rep players around him that have played together for some time.
Last night I saw him make a few mistakes, a few bad 5th tackle options and poor kicks - but he scored a try backing up and kicked a great field goal, he set up a try with a cross kick etc. Brooks has done the same sort of things in his recent games but some on here have chosen to focus solely on his errors.
For those who think our recent form as a team can be solved by getting rid of Brooks, all i say is that it is an extremely simplistic and unrealistic view of the game and our team.

I never said that he would *single-handedly* win us a comp. That was you. I don't understand how people like me seeking a change in the halves = he is the sole blame for our poor results. That's not what I said.

I'm saying that in a successful team, yes, we need other players, we need a team of them, but I think we can also do better in his position, upgrading from average/slightly above average to good and that will help. Name players in the league in his position who are behind him and in front of him and you'll see, he's right in the middle.

And seriously, can you guys cop to some of his weaknesses? Would it hurt you to acknowledge that he has drawbacks? Instead of saying: He's young. It's Benji. It's Moses. It's the forwards. It's the team around him. It's the coach. It's the 9. I've seen all of those reasons listed on here.

I'm not suggesting for a minute that Brooks shouldn't own his faults - I've been just as frustrated by him. But also don't believe for a minute that his faults are the reason for our lack of success or that removing him and replacing him alone will bring success. It's a bandaid solution. The quality/talent in the competition is mostly concentrated in five/ six sides and we are not one of them that is currently our biggest problem.

Fair enough, I see your point. Thanks.

But why does replacing Brooks = bandaid solution? If we get a better player in his position and address other areas of need over the next two years (realistically what it will take) then wouldn't we still be a better team in the long run?

Sua should be our target and he will improve our team markedly.

Reynolds is s Souths' junior and should stay and get his retirement package.

Whatever money we do have available is better spent on areas of need. Another halfback when we have a good one is a waste of resources.

Because I question whether the "better "player will actually make a difference for the length of contract and cost it would take to bring him here - I.e.Reynolds.
He is a good player better kicker than Brooks but he is not as good a defender and is not a runner of the ball. He would have far more responsibity placed on him than at South's and the expectations would be enormous. Brooks cops plenty on here for his failings and is given little credit for the good things he does- he is a decent player in a pretty ordinary team.
Reynolds will be exactly in the same boat unless he brings the likes of Cook Walker Murray Latrell Sua Gagai etc with him and that ain't going to happen.
In terms of managing our cap I see it fraught with same problems we have now - paying a player his biggest pay cheque with no guarantees knowing that it is likely that another club got the best from him for less.

It's hard to blame anyone else for Brooks performances except himself?

Exactly, we hear this all the time, MBye over paid and useless, Packer lazy reserve grader, AJ dud signing, BJ fat and lazy, Tommy Talau disappointing send him packing, MCK nuffie, Twal, Plodder, Tamau retiring on us, Garner is a reserve grader, Joffa not we need, but Brooks, it’s not his fault, give me a break. Why does he get a free pass when everyone else needs to be moved or held to account

They aren’t the ones responsible for managing our team on the field. They aren’t the ones responsible for getting us repeat sets. Or finishing of a set with a half decent kick. One good kick all game last and we scored from it. Surely after 150 games he would have added some variety to his mid field bomb that every fullback loves . If slimey Moses can kick to the corners surely after 150 games our main man Brooks should learn how.

I get why people want him to do well, but come on enough already. It was Farahs fault, no it was be benjis fault , its the coach, it’s the forwards, now it’s the backs. He has come out and said it’s his team. He’s the main man. If he can’t deliver time to cut our losses.
