Duffy on the outer at Saints, could we find a position for him?

Don't think he will want to play on the wing and we have Daine who is very similar but with better hands. But if he was happy to be winger I would not say no.

And we don't have a reasonable backup for Laurie.

True...
I would love to be a fly on the wall in the Recruitment office at the moment to see what happening as we have some dollars available. I fully trust their decisions as we have not over paid for anyone for a while now and I believe it will pay off.
It would be a massive boost to Morale / Media / memberships etc.. if we could snag a big name player soon for next year E.g Brendan Smith, Staggs, Reynolds, Brown etc..

Cant see us even entertaining the idea of Nathan Brown. Goes against our recruitment model.

I agree with others, too big a risk of decline to offer top money.

I reckon he is the type of signing we should stay well away from. We'd be paying him top dollar and he is going to have to kill it to be decent signing.

I honestly don't think he'd be much of an improvement to our squad. We are strong in the middle forwards and we have some good talent not getting picked in the top team.

I agree but judging by our last 18 months or so Recruitment we are not prepared to over pay for players or long term deals. Some of the deals we have put on the table recently are with Club options or Incentive basis. If we were to go after him I think we would offer something like 550k for 3 years with the 3rd a club option. I would say yes to this one.

Lauries playing well, and will only get better, but he is not yet at Duffys standard, Both could play anywhere from 1 to 6. We need wingers and centres with speed and attacking skills, Duffy fits the bill.

To be honest, in the minimum games Laurie has played I would say he's actually playing better then Duffy?

Edit: all I see in Duffy's game is speed and agility, isnt great under the high ball and really doesnt posses a passing/kicking game. For wing sure wouldnt be bad but doubt we would spend his money just to have a speedy winger, when we have speedsters in Fitzgibbon, Cini and Gebbie preparing in the lower grades.

Re the signing of Reynolds, Brown, and others.. Penrith has shown the way, and that is the blueprint we should follow.
We must look and plan for the future, and not buy players in their twilight years, we have been burnt badly in the past.
Do the Storm, Easts, Penrith etc buy players at their career ends ? Anxiety causes bad decicions, success takes time.
We must learn from the errors of the past.

In my mind we are already doing just that. We have learnt and the guys in charge of recruitment have done a fair job.

Yes it's like investing in shares and property, you buy at the bottom of the market, not at the top, otherwise you have only one way to go, and thats down! As the song goes,--YOU'VE GOT TO KNOW WHEN TO HOLD THEM, AND KNOW WHEN TO THROW THEM !

very smart the club never rushed Signing Liddle they knew what they had in Jake Simpkin use the Liddle money to try and go towards buying a centre along with Joey L money

I think they should still sign Liddle for 2022. He's a great back up option if Jake gets injured

I think Liddle is still a good player and deserves a crack at first grade at nrl he is better than a backup he is just not as good as Jake Simpkin

That contract would be okay but I'd rather a gun winger.

Read somewhere that we still have around $600k to spend if the right player/s come along. That, however, is for the future. Our immediate need is a win over Manly and that's shaping up to be a much tougher proposition with them smashing the Titans in their last game.

cameron ciraldo staying at Penrith until end of 2022, interesting he is moving to shire and will commute to Penrith.

I heard IC talk about him over a week ago and he seemed quietly confident that Ciraldo would stay.

Dufty can produce brilliance but he's also got some bad errors in him. We need to steer clear of those kind of players

I think he may get that 14 spot next year. If the rumors are true about Hastings playing 13, when he needs a spell - Liddle could come on and play 9 with Simpkin moving into 13 for 20-30mins.

I can't see it happening. Simpkin managed 80 minutes against one of the best teams in he comp. He's an 80 minute player. Having Liddle there is a waste imo.

Have we heard from Russ lately??....I would like his opinion on Jakes debut and place in the team moving forward...
Both have skills, which one will end up the better and the 9 permanently will depend on injuries and consistency.....just my take on it...

problem is a team like the Roosters see a tedesco and says they want them and they get them.
I am worried Simpkin will be a big target for Roosters they don't have a hooker and Radley is not a dummy half.

Sam Verrills..?

It's fairly obvious most people on here haven't watched young Verills play.

Dufty has had a resurgence this year because of the speed of play. If the game slows down again next year he goes back to being bog average. He has a lot of errors in his game, Laurie is already a better footballer.

Don't know why someone downvoted this it makes complete sense. If you've got an 80 minute hooker you can run a utility or extra forward on your bench. If Simpkin keeps playing well there just won't be room for Liddle

No doubt a quality player like Liddle will be snapped up by another club and come back to bite us.

In Tigervinnie's defence, Simpkin would still be an 80 min player, just shifting to lock for 20 mins to give Hastings a spell.
Liddle has played some of his best football for us coming off the bench, especially exploiting tired markers and defence. I feel his best fit for us in future is as a super sub.

I would be happy either way, I really hope we do get to at least trial a Simpkin and Liddle combination as I agree, bringing Liddle on with the intention just to inject some speed againts tired forwards late in the game could prove to be a great 1,2 punch (similar to Grant + Smith)
