I don't believe this for a second. How many on here are going to give up 400k in income.

Latrell gave up $500k to knock us back

For someone that gives up $500'000 a season ? He is still doing alright
3 years reported salary? For this home
And that doesn't include the tax he would have to pay from his contract earnings

But I will add it was nice of Latrell to do that for his parents

* Choosing Leilua and Roberts as starting centres over Momirovski who would of been the smarter choice

* Team selections and use of the bench often not making sense

* Releasing Thompson who in hindsight is a better winger than any other player here

Every player you mentioned is pretty ordinary though. Switch the names around and I reckon we're still at the same place.

None of the players are game changers, Joey and Roberts at least had the potential to be and that is why they were signed. As an attempt to get an ordinary squad into the finals.

These were shortcuts in recruitment much like the shortcuts we take on the field. These guys can’t hold down a club because they’re not mentally tough. Bellamy sends young players out to work on building sites to find out their character. We should have given BJ an Oporto ‘s apron.

I don't have a problem with either signing as they were short term signings for a specific purpose.

To run 14th? I get your point but it needs to end. Need to start signing winners to teach the kids who can play (supposedly)

The winners said no, these were signings with good upside that could have made a difference if they worked out. If not there was an easy out when we will be in a position to try again with the better targets. The Roberts signing in particular was a good risk to take.

Come on mate he’s copping about 4 grand a week to do nothing. We could have a young kid learning the ropes right now. It was always doomed.

Who Talau? Roberts is on close to minimum wage, we are about $750k under the cap, with 2 spots still vacant and all reserve grade players being eligible for firsts grade. His signing held no one back.

We should have been looking for a young speedster not a washed up hack.

Nothing stopped us from both.

18 year old kid who tore us shreds on Friday has changed clubs recently. Doubt we even knew his name.

Complete nonsense

Madge literally said they knew about him 2 years ago

I've also seen the talent identification system they use, there isn't a player they don't know about.

Agree and they also tried to get him in a player swap but Broncos didn't agree. Then the warriors swooped in with a long term deal and a 1st grade opportunity.. You cannot get them all.

That is why it is folly to judge recruitment on the players you miss.

The ones we got are running 14th and will be lucky to get 15th. Can we judge on that?

Go for it mate, but you are looking at this from a very shallow angle.

Yep, I know mate. I’m burned out waiting for a sign of life from the club. The only conclusion I can draw is ‘change the cattle making the decisions’

If I’m wrong I’ll actually be happy because it’ll mean I can stop complaining about it.

Believe me I get it, I feel the same, 10 years without finals is not acceptable. I have actually discussed recruitment with Hartigan, that is why I am willing to put some faith in his ability to turn this place around. He is not going to get it right 100% of the time but I like how he goes about his job.

I got close to having a chat to him but it just didn’t eventuate, shortly after the Matterson debacle. I think my words to him would go something like this, we need a game-changer. Pay Victor Radley or someone like that double what they’re worth, somebody who will attract decent footy players. Do it now.

How do you think that would work out? Everyone in the team hates the new guy on $1.4M who is reducing what they earn and reducing the quality of the rest of the group. The fans hate him because he can't possibly live up to the expectation that would come with the salary.

Not if he’s consistently the best player on the field who leads with actions. It would have to be someone like a Radley, Jake Turbo, Munster who is respected across the game.

Exactly, and it what Wests Tigers have done in the past and has never worked out well for the club.

Except we paid marquee money to a boofhead not long out of the clink, a bloke who hadn’t worked out what position he played and an over-rated playmaker with a dodgy body. Very different to my idea.

Reported in a Fox Sports article last month regarding Hastings coming here.
Our most expensive and protected dud.

? line sinker

He’s on more like 650k-700k

Fox sports also said Mbye was on a million the year he played origin

No. He's on 850k.

We very stupidly re-signed him straight after he won Dally M halfback of the year, right when his price was at its highest. Very poor management, but they just didn't want to lose their star... ?

My point in my last post (sorry about the spelling errors to some of you who took offence haha) is before anyone says we should buy this player or promote that player - think -- are these guys going to make us a top 8 or top 4 team.

The problem we have is no one wants to come here (supposedly) or we have to pay stupid overs for them... right?

But the good teams with the best coaches attract players for less than their market value (some times).

So a player like Munster (for example ) - say he is worth $900K per year.

He would probably stay at Melbourne for $800K (if he needed to)

We would have to pay him $1.2M (if we could get him)

So the difference in the cap between having a good coach (who attracts players- the Robinsons, Bennets, Bellamys ) is $400K for some players.

IF WE DO BELIEVE THAT THEORY ---

AND IF THE TIGERS ARE SUPPOSEDLY MAKING ALL THIS MONEY THANKS TO PASCOE.... "we're profitable blah blah" (the usual rhetoric from failing teams management)

Why the hell aren't we just offering Wayne Bennet or Bellamy $2M a season for two seasons?

The money that we would be paying overs for the coach would be saved on the roster as people would come here for market or less than what we currently have to offer them.

That would be the only way for us to get talent right now without stuffing up our cap for 4 years.

And before everyone says Waynes going to Brisbane or Bellamy is retiring - money talks and if its only for two years I'm sure $$ would persuade them.

Happy to see the knives on the forum come out and tear this down🙂

We have a hold on the bottom 8
If we sign one of these coaches as you suggest then we will lose our identity

Forum members thoughts ?

Our troubles start without the ball. Our defence has remained consistently appalling.

I thought our middle is OK, its the edge that is the problem?

Definitely the edges

Middle defence is poor but edges are close to the worst I’ve ever seen in NRL.

We need 2 hardcore back rowers .

2 new wingers who can jump and defend and have pace

2 centre’s who can hit hard with pace

And a decent hooker

And people want to blame the coach. Geez.

Show me one winger, centre, second rower or hooker he didn’t sign or re-sign?

All clubs have sign duds, they don’t do it knowingly though. It’s then a process of weeding them out when there contracts are finished.

So now he needs time to weed out the bad signings he made so he can truly get the team he wants? What a cop out.

Dont forget Madge is only one part of the team that decides what player to purchase.
We employed Hartigan to be in charge of this sort of decision making, as he had the knowledge after working in the successful Roosters system. And I reckon a very large % of us would have been thrilled to have him on Our Team.

I don't think our recruitment has been that bad since Hartigan arrived. Before he got here we were signing people like Robert Jennings and trying (unsuccessfully) to sign Tim Mannah.

Yep, Tim Mannah was a desperate attempt to get a forward leader to show our blokes how to get the job done.
Now we have the great Tamou, but no one has put forward the actual evidence that shows he is doing the job we purchased him for.

That's what all clubs/coaches do. Pretty
sure your man Flannagan signed Moylan and Dugan on huge contracts that they have been trying to get out of for the last three seasons?

How have the sharks gone the last few seasons, relative to us?

Both have won 0 premierships in the last few years

I'd celebrate a first round finals game like a premiership win.

So now you concede that we will get into the finals?

Next year, it will happen.

Sorry what did I concede? We aren’t making the finals under Madge, ever.

I want our team to get into the finals just as much as anyone.
But there is only one major reason to do that, and that is to get into the Grand Final and then win it.
But every year 6 finalists dont get into the GF and every year 7 teams dont win the GF.
Is there a difference between coming 8th and maybe getting knocked out in the 1st round, or coming 9th as we have for the past 9 years.
Do you remember who the 3rd to 8th finalists were last year or the year before that?
I reckon lots of people would feel any year their team dont Win the GF, its been a failure.
Also, we can only purchase the players that are available at the time, and the ones we have purchased may well be the bottom of the barrel from the list of available players that meet Our Clubs criteria.
Why aren't we winning...because Madge just doesn't have the players needed to be able to play them in their correct positions ie Talau. Simpkin was supposed to be better than Harry Grant according to a lot of people on here. Cini has a blinder in his 1st game then a shocker in his 2nd. How do we know if some of our blokes dont like one another, therefore will never play good combinations.
Then we have a galoot like Nofa who leaks like a sieve, and whoever is most responsible for his 4 year ext. [seems like Hagipantellis] should be stoned.
Our team wont and cant be fixed in 48 hours, but I believe
with the purchase of a few of the right players, 2022 will be a BIG improvement with Madge as coach.

Insightful post @MAGPIES1963

Thank You Mike :+1: , coming from You I appreciate that.

Why didn't someone pack his bags and call him an user. This season is over move him on and give the young blokes ago if they don't cut the mustard it's better to now than next year

We should have released him straight away. He is replacable and hes not going to be anymore beneficial to getting us into the 8. He is average and average is replaceable.

Dragons wanted him for free basically. There was no cap benefit. Tigers must have another option up their sleeve.

Yep i would swap Mbye for Dufty in a heartbeat, the bloke has sheer speed and a great passing game , we need speed badly , Brooks is probably our quickest at the moment and even Laurie don’t look to quick for mine .We Need Speed

Speed, speed, and more speed, we have lacked it for years, its what the good sides have in spades. If a back does not have it ,don,t look at them.

So the difference in the cap between having a good coach (who attracts players- the Robinsons, Bennets, Bellamys ) is $400K for some players.

I don't believe this for a second. How many on here are going to give up 400k in income.

Latrell gave up $500k to knock us back

Latrell has moments of brilliance, but he is lazy. His overall participation in a game is poor. He plays in patches as his fitness is poor. How many backs play with a beer belly ?
I have no doubt some of his fellow teamates would be unhappy with his attitude. The mice deserve him!

Sounds like Clifford to knights is very close... could mean Walters to broncos and hopefully someone in return from broncos

Clifford to Knights has been a done deal for a while
