Well if we go down a new path next season I would look at moving Brooks to 9

I'd go with 9.Brooks 7.Pearce/ Sezar 6.Douhelie 1.Laurie

14.Hastings

Something in the spine needs to change.

As many have already said …. We need experience …. So for me, based on chatter about who (in category of player) may be available and willing to come on board for next year I would seriously go for Pearce in half’s, Finucane and/or Vaughan. That would strengthen and provide experience to our spine and the forwards.

Mary McGregor stated on Fox that Vaughn is no leader. He said he isn’t someone that wants to be a senior leader of the team and is more happy with being chummy with the younger guys. Hence the recent events.
He also said he works really hard and is a reliable player but if a cultural leader is what you need, his not your man.

I like how Tigers aren't within cooee of the finals, probably also too far in front of the wooden spoon, aren't playing this weekend... still getting all the media attention.

It's like finding out the bully at school actually has a crush on you.

Sleeping giants of the NRL, imagine if we could field a competitive team! Good indigenous programs though.

Even the Indigenous Programs are'nt working. Fitzy got sacked yesterday.

That's a little unfair to the people working in those programs

Organisations can put in the best educators and top line programs for people/players/students etc etc etc, but if the individuals arent willing to actually learn from them and pick up all the valuable lessons from these educators then this is what you get.
Sorry if it sounded like i was having a go at the people actually working in these programs behind the scenes ,as it was not what i meant.

Yeah so probably a little unfair to say the programs aren't working because of the alleged actions of one individual, especially if the actions are proven he would be low life scum.

Tend to agree.
I haven’t heard a single sound reason for sacking Madge?
Players dropping the ball isn’t one of them imo.

I’ve heard one - has Madge demonstrated that he can coach a team outside the 8 to a grand final or even the top 8 ?

Which coaches have ? Mayb Dessie but Bellamy, Robinson, Bennett, Cleary havent done that

Yeah exactly any coach appointment is crucial.

Cleary managed to get worriers to a final here and there.

Potter and Jason Taylor appointments after sheens was just so dumb

Potter was going fine until the whole Brian Smith saga took place. What a disaster that's turned into. 10 years of misery.

Edit: Grant Meyer.....remember that twitter mad fool? He left quite the legacy.

Grant Mayer - what a nightmare

Yep then go and board appointment JT probably at the most important part of our recruitment decisions

Can’t remember if Pascoe was part of hiring Jason Taylor or just firing

The single worst mistake in wests tigers history that we will suffer from for the next ten years. A decent coach at the time who has us winning games builds a team out of farah, brooks, Moses , Tedesco, ado carr and so on and we will probably win a premiership out of it. The joys of being a tigers supporter

The Mick Potter and JT eras were farily horrible. One thing I give Pascoe much credut for is that before him we had thise 2 horrible coaches while since he has been CEO we have had Cleary and Madge who are a big step up in quality if coaches we have hired even if the Ivan piece didnt work out in the end.

I'll back us for the spoon next year,
the dogs have a far more improved roster and will jump us
the broncos have improved in the key spots they lacked and will jump us
if it's not us then a team has had their points stripped for salary cap rorting

We are very good chance for next year to grab the spoon, but I think we are even a better chance to snatch it this year .

That's a silly question, he did it his first year at Souths.

Quite comparable really, apart from the 15th.

Could argue souths were on the up, whereas we were all over the shop. I also think w-l record is a better indication as some years the ladder can be very compact between about 5th and 14th

If that is true, then he's not the type of player we need, regardless how good his stats are.

Nope, but gave him an entire off season and then fired him after round 1 or 2. The players found out through the media and were pissed.

not even just the recruiting
the dogs play with more passion and drive than us and they have been bottom of the ladder for 3 years, the coach is a given for next year
the broncos are never down and out for long and Arey and co. will definitely help them out of that slump and every man and his dog wants to be a donkey
where are the tigers, can't sign a single marquee or can't find one that fits the team at the right price point, madge is a dead man walking according to some, the players are on their final notice according to others. about 3 blokes play with any sort of drive or motivation to perform.
the cowboys may give us a run for the spoon

Spot on Nuggerton
Add the Warriors could have majoirty of their games next year in NZ

We are struggling big time with the current player market ,with us in dead last when it comes to preferred clubs . Unless we catch one big fish and the others follow I cant see us getting out this hole anytime soon!!

You could argue anything you'd like. Fact is OP asked has Madge ever coached a team outside Top 8 to finals = yes. Then "Tigers bad? Don't think so". Table position pretty close for pre-Madge Tigers and Souths.

I agree, then you can then make all sorts of arguments about the roster, about salary cap space, previous coaches, ownership, upswing of performances etc., and there's validity in all of them.

But as a single boiled-down line of argument, I don't think there's any justification in the suggestion (OP) that Souths made finals and won a comp because it was inevitable, almost in absence of Michael Maguire. Souths have made 1 GF and won 1 premiership in the past 50 years, and Madge was the coach.
