I think we were close to signing him before he resigned with saints. The length of contract prob put us off

This club couldn’t get a kick in a stampede. They are flat out like a lizard drinking picking up a phone call. Our luck it will be Jonny Lomax coming with Sheens. Would be a welcome change.

Paying overs for the wrong player is madness, paying overs for the right player is an investment. Ivan made some horrible choices.

Packer - had a major run in with the law before playing a season of reserve grade at Illawarra where he was only fair. His form in his first year back in FG was solid but not maquee. We panicked when we lost Woods.

Matulino - injuries had started to slow him down before we got him and I think he was signed because he was mates with Packer and Ivan.

Reynolds - bulldogs offered him what he considered insulting money. As a club favourite at the Dogs this was a good sign of what we were getting.

Mbye - form was pretty good at Bulldogs but had not really worked out his best position. Dangerous to pay someone like that marquee money (see also Milford).

Pascoe, Cleary and co butchered the war chest we had because they had been burned by the big 3, the signings lacked footy smarts and patience.

I’m not seeing much of a ‘swap’ in this deal.
The Dragons have agreed to sign MBye for our final contract year probably with us supplementing at least a third of his salary.
Lomax on the other hand is signed to 2025!!!
It’s not like for like. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dragons expect another club to take the whole contract on so we will be forced to pay twofold….

Essentially we'll lose Mbye and gain Lomax for no change to our cap. That's a good deal. A direct swap with us chipping in for Mbye.

Croft and Brooks are very similar players in my opinion.
