Pascoe battling it out with Tyrone May for ‘most incompetent at their job with no chance to be fired’

How Pascoe escapes almost any scrutiny is just amazing.

Big 4, Ivan fiasco, Farah debacle and suspension, 2017 robust processes to avoid salary cap trouble, players/coaches walking out yearly etc.

I'd love us to poach someone high up at one of the Storm or the Roosters. We probably wouldn't get the CEO but maybe a football manager.

If he wasn’t hitting his contractual KPIs than he wouldn’t be employed by the WT organisation/Board.

As you probably know position carries much more than just on field performance and in current environment where $s revenue in football Club coffers are at a minimum …… I’m sure that his success or failures are measured on whether the club as an organisation survives in the short term ….. financially!

He is a well credential administrator and as far as I’m concerned …. The Club is lucky to have him.

Bit of reading material for you ….

Tigers should poach the Storm Senior Leadership Team
And Coaching Dept.

I suppose that they would come with individuals with deep pockets and NRL Central who will do anything to keep the game in Melbourne on the front foot.
Get real man.

Niel Henry, coaches a great style that has become more relevant in todays game than ever before, NRL experience (Raiders, Cowboys & Titans) assistant coach to the Maroons since 2008, current coach of the Junior Roos, Nrl coaching consultant, not a bad bloody resume.
I wanted him to coach us ahead of Madge, I thought I was right then, now I'm 110% he should have been our coach. The bloke just doesn't talk about culture and accountability, he is regarded as the best tactical mind in the NRL, hasn't won a premiership but is a two time NRL coach of the year and most importantly appears to be a damn good human.

I'm all in favour of a different direction with coaching but I think I would only replace Madge with either Bellamy or Bennett. Bellamy's resigned so either Bennett or we let Madge see out his current contract. Nothing changes then we get Sheens to have a look around and see what's available. Toovey would be similar to Madge, Flanagan not that appealing. Always like Elliot and he knows his footy but too long away from coaching now and prob wouldn't want the challenge.
It would have to be an up and comer like maybe Ciraldo? Idk who else is out there. English coach?

I'm not really interested in Bennett

Bennett always causes devestation behind him when he leaves a club.He would be the last bloke i would want at WT.

He's leaving Souths this year.
Do you see any "devastation " there?

Souths are putting a lot of stock in their young 7 coming through (Can't think of his name), if they have Walker and Milford/Benji in the halves next year they could have some problems, can see South's going backwards next year pretty easily.

One of Hawkins, Taffe, Dargon or Illias.

Reckon I was thinking of Hawkins. Who if I'm not mistaken was mentioned on here to be a Tigers target, mentioned at the same time as Egan Butcher.

Lachlan Illias was apparently a Balmain jnr

On a serious note does anyone know if the deadline has passed or not as there has been no communication about it from the club or NRL that I can see.

Tuilagi has been upgraded.

Cheer mate.. Has this been announced from the club or you have inside mail?

Should be announced today.

Lock in the 4pm announcement?

I think what many of us need reminding of is Wests Ashfield is not in the business to run a successful NRL club, they simply donate money to various sporting clubs , Wests Tigers being one. The NRL club may be important to us fans, but it is not a high priority to WA.

This is a no brainer. Pay the guy 1m a year and then try and negotiate Liddle the other way to get him for 2022. Simpkins remains the understudy and you use Smith to recruit some talent

NRL transfer window: Melbourne Storm’s surprise play to retain Brandon Smith
Brandon Smith is one step closer to becoming rugby league’s next $1 million man after the Melbourne Storm made a shock first-up offer of $600,000 a year to retain their in-demand star.
In a move that will start a bidding war between the six rival clubs that have already expressed an interest in signing Smith from 2022, Melbourne this week made the surprise offer that could tempt the Kiwi wrecking ball to snub the likes of the Sydney Roosters and the Canterbury Bulldogs.
A club famous for its ability to sign players on “unders” deals thanks to the lure of success, the Storm’s bid showed they were serious about keeping both Smith and Harry Grant at the club long term.
It also set the scene for a rugby league auction that could make Smith one of the game’s richest players should he decide to go to market on November 1.
“I was pleasantly surprised with their offer,” said Smith’s manager Stan Martin.
“It is certainly a lot higher than I thought it would be. I was really surprised and I think they are aware of what it will take to keep him.”
The Daily Telegraph can reveal that at least six clubs have expressed an official interest in signing Smith for 2023 and beyond.
Those clubs include the Roosters, Bulldogs, Wests Tigers and NRL expansion hope the Redcliffe Dolphins.
“We have fielded a number of expressions of interest,” Martin said.
“Yes. There have been six clubs. Easily.”
While the Storm’s first-up offer shows the club is serious about keeping both Smith and fellow hooker Harry Grant in Melbourne, the Kiwi strike weapon is still expected to field official offers from rivals when the 2022 transfer window opens on November 1.
“We can’t sign any contract with anyone other than the Storm until the 1st of November,” Martin said.
“We can discuss options but we can’t sign. He has another year to go on the contract. I will give them an indication of his value. As an agent I would like to think he could get a million but $800,000 may be a more realistic target.”
While the Storm have not discussed terms, Smith’s desire to play as a starting NRL hooker may force him to leave Melbourne, even though he is currently wearing the No.9 jumper with Grant coming off the bench.
“That is part of the problem,” Martin said.
“And that is the reason we put him on the market originally. We don’t know how they are going to play him at Melbourne and that is fair enough because they have Harry Grant.”
Smith headlines the list of star players who are coming off contractat the end of next year.
Junior Paulo, Cody Walker, Viliame Kikau and Joseph Manu will also attract strong interest should they remain unsigned after November 1.
UTILITY A CHEE-KY CHANCE OF NEW DEAL
Michael Chee Kam could earn himself a new Tigers deal after forcing his way into Michael Maguire’s top-team.
News Corp Australia can reveal the Tigers kick started contracts talk with the Samoan powerhouse ahead of picking him to start for the first time since round seven.
After being relegated to 18th man following the loss to the Sea Eagles, Chee Kam won himself a start in the centres for the clash against the Bulldogs after impressing last week when he returned to the NRL by way of the bench.
The 29-year old, who also plays back-row, may have also earned himself a new deal with the Tigers opening talks to retain him beyond the year.
One of seven Tigers coming off contract at the end of the year, Chee Kam was recruited to Concord in 2016 following a two-year stint with the Sea Eagles.
Chee Kam was promoted into the top team for the Bulldogs clash following a positional shuffle caused by an injury to Daine Laurie.
Mbye has been shifted from centre to fullback for the clash after Laurie broke his fibula during last week’s shock defeat to the Warriors.
Chee Kam could not only earn himself a new deal but lock down the centre spot for the remainder of the season with Laurie ruled out for the rest of the year.

This isn’t a view shared by everyone but a bugbear of mine is that our Major Sponsor Chairman does similarly.
His got his business name in just about all corners of the rugby league world, including sponsoring rival teams.

Yeah I've seen his linkedin profile.

I have no doubt politics plays a role in him keeping his role, and not just KPIs.

A good administrator takes ownership and is accountable, I've seen a few occasions where he's claimed it's "not his job". He has to be accountable for the constant talk around WT "front office is a mess". Maybe that's media talk about a losing team but you don't hear that about Bulldogs or Cowboys who are both losing as much as us.

@mike - I would bring in Hastings like we are doing and get rid of Brooks. Even tho Hastings is unproven he has a bit of passion and he is cheaper.

I would've gone hard for Nico Hynes at 6 or 1 (swapped with Laurie depending on seeing how both go at those positions).

Then pending how Hastings went either go hard for a #7 when one comes up or pay overs for a junior coming through - with the money difference saved between Hastings and Brooks (assuming there is one after we off load Brooks which may not be the case)

Whatever the position tho I would get rid of Brooks because it's like we are dying death by a thousand cuts.

I was always taught cut your arm off with a chainsaw not a butter knife. anyway this is all subjective speculation.

Just sick of people discussing if Brooks is any good after 7 years of no finals.

Bennett always causes devestation behind him when he leaves a club.He would be the last bloke i would want at WT.

He's leaving Souths this year.
Do you see any "devastation " there?

think this time around is different because he's leaving Demetriou there and he has enough respect for him not to bomb the joint. Brisbane, St George and Newcastle obviously speaks to his track record, but Souths have put a proper succession plan in place this time around. wouldn't have him at WT though, he'd completely ruin the place in order to try and win one more.

Does anyone stop to think that clubs may go backwards after he leaves simply because he isn't there anymore? Can you give him any credit for his success?
If he did bring temporary success that'd do me. He'd also bring respect and credibility with him.

Another quick fixit man eh!

No thanks.

Don't really see the point of keeping Chee-Kam. He's not going to get any better, we've seen his best and we should be focusing on re-signing Mikaele and Seyfarth over himHe just takes the spot of someone else we should sign that has potential and a long term NRL future

Chee ain't a bad player and he's a good bloke but if we are already trying to keep him that means we don't have many other viable signing targets I reckon...

Agreed. He still averages more meters per game than all of our forwards bar Twal.

So did Tamou before he got here. In saying that, I do think for the right price he could be useful.

If it's a choice between Woods and re-signing someone like Amone, I'd pick Woods. We need players who can play big minutes and not fall apart.

I see nothing in Amone.

He had no off season, coming off acl, could br better with a full off season. He has the right body type but needs to up his game in training and fitness.

Still only 24 - not that old for a prop. Not all young props are like Haas. Most don't hit their straps till about 26.

We’ll be saying the same thing about Stefano when he’s had another 40 games and at age 23.

Stefano is more a Haas type - they come along once in a blue moon.

If you wait only for Props that are like that - we'll be collecting alot of spoons.

If we’re re-sign Chee Kam i’ll go wild… dumbest thing we could do

Agree. Promote Ogden or someone else to top 30 if we need to fill a spot.

Such a smart bloody club.

It’s an each way bet for them.

There first offer is higher than usual, probably higher that they paid Finucane last year but it’s still manageable if they decide to keep him sure he is probably worth that, but that is not ‘unders’ at Melbourne. He has been offered a fair rate knowing full well they won’t have the capacity to play him at Dummy half and want to use him at lock.

What this does do however Is starts the bidding at that price point for all the other clubs.
Roosters won’t be picking him up for any less than $600k and then the building clubs, Bulldogs, Titans, us would be expected to pay upwards of $900k just to get a look in.

Well played Melbourne!

Would like to see him go to a nice team

Yeah agree … that would be a backward step.

The only reason for keeping Chee Kam is for culture and squad continuity purposes.
