Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

kills me to say this i thought we looked better when Mbye went to dummy half, i thought his passing was crisper then Liddle, i am unfortunately seeing nothing in Liddle. His passing was aweful today, he is going backwards

Why did we swap out our best centre? I suppose in hindsight we saved a young man’s career , Laurie probably wouldn’t have played much footy if it wasn’t for the Tigers.

That we had already signed Laurie for next year but rushed him over for Momo highlights how bad our roster and recruitment was.

The ceiling of JTJ and BJ are miles higher than Momo. Unfortunately the floor of both of them are lower than Momo. It was a gamble worth taking and was all for it argued with a few Momo lovers at the time. I admit I’d love to have Momo now, but not at the expense of Laurie

Sure but we had Laurie signed anyhow and traded for him because we had no fullback cover.

Quite a lot of our players have regressed in their standard of play. How long can WTs afford to stick with Maguire?

This is very left field I know. However, I have been following the Catalan Dragons in the ESL, mainly because I know there has been a minor resurgence of the game in France. Catalans are leading the ESL this year and are growing the number of French players within their squad. Two young players who are doing well are Arthur Morgue and Matthieu Laguerre. Morgue, in particular, is getting huge wraps over there as a fast and skillful fullback/halfback. I've seen him play a couple of times and he does look good. I wonder if Mr Sheens has noticed? You never know!

Depends on how you look at it Utoikamanu, Laurie, Blore, Maumalo, Luciano, Douihei, Twal, Mikalele, Ofehengaue are players who play for Madge.

The group that doesn’t Mbye, Brooks, BJ, Liddle, Nofa.

Which group is the club trying to move on? That will tell you what will happen with Madge.
The players regressing under madge are the players that have to be moved on not the coach.

The narrative is wrong it’s being pushed by media and people are jumping on it without realising the issue it’s our senior players.

I don't mind the idea of Brooks at lock. The way the game has evolved this year, he could be that more mobile, ball playing forward. Yep - thinking outside the square, could possibly work?

Brooks is a 6, Hastings is a 7 and Douihei is a 4.
Brooks is on big money if you can offload him you do it. He’s a good player but doesn’t justify the salary as he doesn’t own the result or lead the team.

Our playing group is better than what our performances and place on the ladder suggest.

The issue is with Maguire and he should be sacked asap.

This is the same playing group that Maguire has to a large extent signed or re-signed. You involve yourself in a blame shifting exercise. Put Maguire on the market and no club would want him. Put Brooks and Liddle on the market and plenty of clubs would be interested.

I wonder how many supporting Maguire actually have a vested interest in doing so - you know snouts - trough?

Interesting to note that not only is Brandon Smith off contract at the end of 2022 but Harry Grant actually has a Mutuak option for 2023 so if effectively off contract at the end of 2022 at this stage as well. I say go all in for Harry

last year showed having Grant in our team isn't priority and I would extend that to Smith as well.

We had Grant and still missed the finals terribly, we have far more important areas to fill before throwing marquee money at Hooker.

Without Grant we’d be last.

But seriously, I’d throw 1Milly at Grant. Even 1.1..

The influence and everything he had on the whole of Wests Tigers, I actually never felt or seen that effect a player can do to a team.

What do you do with the two capable hookers we presently have?

The 19 yr old nsw cup player or the injury riddled bloke who missed 8 tackles vs the Warriors and left dummy half empty and tjrows a bunch of average passes. You give them to someone else snd take the Origin star

Too bad the tigers have re-signed Liddle.

Only for 2 years and Grant would not leave the Storm until 2023 anyway.
You could offload Liddle pretty easy I reason and Simpkin could be a super sub / back up.

Or you could get rid of Simpkin and keep the better hooker at only 24.

Lol ? or get rid of the guy who can't play 80 minutes and misses 6 tackles and throws passes around ankles. At least Simpkin is still developing. Simpkin will be an 80 min hooker

At this stage Simpkin is below average - will he ever get above the mediocrity line....who knows. Anyone can play 80 mins Mate. It is how you play the eighty minutes. The games I saw Simpkin play in the NRL, he was not an 80 minute player either.

I think I would get rid of the guy who also can't play 80 minutes, stands with his hands on his hips after he passes the ball, hogs the ball in try scoring situations, slow as a wet week, no experience and couldn't tackle a decent size sandwich.

This is possibly the worst take on any up and coming player I have ever read.

Russell loves Liddle so much he literally said he'd have him over Harry Grant

Canberra might be the only team who would consider Brooks - and we would need to pay a big chunk of his salary

Most teams have a set halfback or a young guy with potential coming through. Liddle might attract some attention as there's a lack of dummy halves around but probably only as a bench role.

I’d keep the 2 hookers we have atm, as well. They do the job and wouldn’t cost the earth to keep, unlike Harry probably will?

I think we have more pressing positions to cover before we worry about the 9.
