He is looking at rugby

Just to clear some thing up.
The rough quote was.
I talk to players all the time. I have players from other clubs ringing me up saying they like what I am doing with the Wests Tigers.
He may of said I’m always in discussions and currently am at the moment.

If I remember correctly within the month of that conversation we sign Ken Mamalo out of the blue….

Maybe it was benji who kept calling...

Geez now we're whining over missing a reserve grader and a bench player. Might have been good for depth, but they're no better than what we already have.

Actually they'd both eb guaranteed starters for us, both are much better than what we already have.

Don't delude yourself. We currently have a bottom 4 roster that has overachieved.

Butcher is a second rower. You’d prefer him than Blore or LL?

Could be a new Gareth Ellis mould with Thompson.

But for me, where do we put him in the squad? Who do you really think he’ll push out.

For me it would be Tamou.

He and Stef would be starting props, they’d be our best two middles by far imo.

He could even play lock - he has a bit more mobility to him than our other forwards.

Would be a big signing for us, would help turn us into a formidable pack

madge had interview on SEN this arvo and he said he wants a Big Prop at club next year as a preferred signing

What else the boss say

Thompson would be the best forward we have, including Stefano. To me he is the 2nd best prop in the game behind Hass. Big motor, runs hard, great leg drive, legitimate leader.

It wouldn't be a case of "Trying to fit him in", it would be trying to work out who takes the other spots.

Egan Butcher has re-signed with the Roosters. 2 year deal. NEXT!

If true there is another one to add a massive list of players who have said no thanks. The last few are happy to stay where they are and remain in the que for a first grade job.

Back to the drawing boards for the 100th time

I can't recall a team ever going after so many players and landing none of them. It must be some kind of record.

Have we gone after all of them, or has this forum said we have?

Pom said we’d gone after Butcher and advised us yesterday HSS was staying in Canberra. All the others were also confirmed on here by people in the know too. Players just don’t want to play here.

Agreed. Now watch Lomax go to the Roosters. But hey he likes Madge lol

Where would you go - Tigers or Rorters?

You need to be realistic

If I was a childhood Tigers fan like Lomax was....

I'd make the move.
Challenge myself to take a team on the edge of medocority to GREATNESS.

Easier to take the easier way and sip Lates with Teddy and have an easy run and be looked at by the wider community of fans as cap cheats... then go the way where you'll be praised as a club great and respected by the fans for trying to challenge yourself.

Was Lomax really a Tigers fan?

The Tigers have tabled a three-year deal for Thompson with the prop having already met coach Michael Maguire about a possible shift next season. The Cowboys have also expressed a formal interest to try to entice Thompson to Townsville.

Yes pleaaaaseeee just get it done for once Tigers

Watch him go to the cowboys

Maybe they move on Jason Tamulolo. Now his a player I would sign as a Marquee!

With all things being said, Thomson and Uto in the front row excites me with Musgrove on the bench. Nice aggressive front row. Let’s get it done

Interesting you say that. Madge was asked if the team has anyone you would consider an enforcer with the reporter quoting, JWH, JFH, AFB, etc and who that would be at the Tigers. He replied he believes Musgrove will fill that role.
That could be why the interest for Thompson. He is a bit of an enforcer.

People talking about signing Thompson. Do you actually think signing him for 4 years for 2.7 million is a good deal? You can't simply say getting him for 2 years at 500k is good value if in teh final years you're paying him 850k.

This is exactly like the Mbye situation. He was great value while the dogs were chipping in, then in the latter years his full salary was on us and we couldn't wait to offload him. Thompson is not the best prop in the league. I don't think he's in the top 5 and possibly not even in the top 10 props. He's worth about 500k at the most.

If we offered him a 3 year deal for 1.5 mil, with dogs chipping in 700k for 2 years, with a mutual option for the 4th season i could accept that. If we ended up paying more than 500k a year for him at any stage it's a loss.

When the Dogs signed him they thought he was one of if not the best forward in the game. Hence the big bucks. But he's not. I can't see anyone offering him that kind of money again.

After all the talk about how Hartigan won’t pay overs for players, do you really think we’ll take on a monster contract?

We’re more likely to miss out because another club wants to take on the entire contract amount.

But Pascoe also said, these are the type of situations they're monitoring to make a move on.

I would believe nothing that the murdoch media say without a credible source, which is something they rarely do

Everyone is looking at Thompson and going off the 800k it took to pry him from the UK.

If 2yrs are covered by 300k a year, he then becomes a 500k prop for us, with 2 more years at 500k or even at 650k. For 4yrs 2-2.3mil max I think thats some smart business. We have a heap of cash next year and could even structure the last 2-3yrs well by pushing some cash into next years cap so the last few years hit won’t be so big. The NRL clamped down on backloaded deals not front loaded deals so he could get 20-40% in year 1 which lets face it at the moment we have that easily.

We all complain we can’t get quality but geez Thompson is quality and if he is an option to grab we should for the right price.

Definitely seems like there's a chance it happens. Couple different journos have talked about it now and seem pretty sure - anything can happen though

Players ringing madge might be true, they might be young guys that are blocked by others and see an opportunity with the tigers. Who knows.
Also who knows what team will turn up on Saturday vs the Sharks.
I like the plan of juniors and developing a stable system.
It was an interesting stat a few pages back saying we have the youngest team in the NRL not sure if it is true but also means the club is going in the rigjt direcrion is my belief

Thompson's manager is definitely geeing this up to try and get a long term deal out of the dogs. If it works in our favour great, but they'd be stupid to get rid of their best forward when they've got Hetherington, Vaughan and now TPJ on their books who are all incredibly hit and miss.
