I can’t believe I’m saying this but with AD possibly gone for a chunk of the season would it make sense to sign Ash Taylor? (Obviously on nowhere near his current salary)

Surely Benji on minimum contract better than Ash Taylor.

I think he is still under contract until 2024 so no one can get him early and thats why Broncos are offering to up his salary as long as he stays longer. Would love to get him but lucky Dreams are free.

Hastings 7, Brooks 6. We need to sign a strike centre.

No point now only 2 games left

AD could be gone for a chunk of next season.

What have I missed re AD ?

ACL

Agree we need a strike centre but there are pretty major question marks on whether Hastings will be successful. We have enough money for both regardless.

Hopefully AD is minor but I doubt it it’s the second time he’s done it on the same leg. I don’t disagree Hastings is a solid organiser Brooks a running half. We will struggle anyway we just need to be improving and locking up these kids.

I watched a bit of last week St Helens game I think.

Hastings actually reminded me of brooks a lot of bombs.

Think Hastings more of a sweeping 6

I was initially of the opinion that grabbing Thompson wasn't necessary because of our current middle forward stocks, but if we're going to continue to be embarrassed conceding 50 points, we're going to need to focus on our defence. Thompson and Twal would be about as good a duo you could get defensively in the middle. Stefano while impressive offensively, has some way to go defensively but I'm sure he'll pick it up.

I do have to wonder where our cap money is going next year and I really wish the NRL had public salary cap statistics. I look at our team compared to some others and just can't seem to understand how we're reaching 10 million next year, especially considering the remainder of Reynold's, approx. half of Mbye's and Packer + Leilua's is coming off the books. We can't be paying Hastings and Gildart that much can we?

The Cotric and Lomax rumours turned out to be fluff but boy it would've been nice if they were true given the way our right edge seems to collapse in a heap every time the opposition approaches.

That's the problem with forcing clubs to spend the cap. Low grade players get good dollars at low grade clubs.

Right now, Brooks is probably only worth $400-500k. We are paying him $800-900k I think. Comparatively, Tedesco is on about $1 million a season. You can't win when you have to pay Brooks around the same coin as a Tedesco.

Not hating on Brooks. Just highlighting what Roosters, Souths or Storm might pay for him in the current market.

Interestingly, the Bulldogs seem to have paid "overs" for JAC, Burton, Cotric, Pangai etc., yet this has snowballed their recruitment to the point where I believe that quality younger players may take less to play with that group. Time will tell of course, and they have arguably chosen the wrong players to throw money at, but perhaps the thinking has some merit.

Not even giving an opinion here, just throwing out some thoughts for discussion.

He won’t go anywhere I reckon . We have our own Payne in the making with Stefano.

It's not easy bringing in a whole bunch of guys together that haven't played together before. Sounds good on paper see how they go next year tho.

People need to realise that Thompson is only under contract for one more year at the dogs. With a one year player option. At present they only have to chip in for one season, unless Thompson activates his option, in which case they would potentially have to chip in for 2 seasons.

If he doesn't activate the option he can control his own fate more but he will also not get the money he currently has available.

If he chooses to activate the option it doesn't definitively mean he wants to stay, it will just allow him or potential suitors to have bargaining power over the dogs.

If the dogs want to offload him they want to do so without pissing him off to the extent that he activates his option. Interesting times ahead. There'll be a lot of action in a few weeks time

Aren't he and Stef close? Thought they grew up together.

Signed a 6 year deal.

#1 prop in the game, huge future.

Stefano is about to prove himself as a worthy challenger for that #1 title though.

Ask @Geo

Ok gotcha.
I remember reading something about them playing rep football together throughout their juniors. Must have been someone else.

Possible.

Junior NSW/Kangaroos.
I don't think they're that close though.

But yeah Haas just extended until 2026

At the money he's on - He'll be activating his last year...
Be the first player in history not to trigger big money before he moves on if he didn't....
