Disappointing to see a number of our best performers in the undefeated flegg side are not signed up.

Ogden, Hill, Pole not signed for next year (yet) and we’ve already lost Tuifua.

Pole has been signed for next year, Ogden’s manager met with Hartigan last week and Hill is highly rated by the club

From what I've heard Hill has literally been offered a bag of peanuts to stay at the club next season and there are other clubs now circling as they see an opportunity.

I would love to see Hill stay - the kid is talented and we lack serious depth on the wing, and he's a genuine finisher. I'll be filthy if the club don't retain and the imbecile in charge of retaining juniors should be out the door.

Agreed but wouldn't that be Hartigan?

Not sure - not impressed with him either way so far.

Hartigan’s an absolute myth.

This is what everyone that I know at the club tells me. I thought he was a good operator.

Really, what do they say?

Smart guy out of his depth. Hardly a vote of confidence bringing in sheens.

Thanks for sharing.

I remember Gould saying something a little while back when we signed Sheens. It was in code, but talked about needing footy experience in admin. At the time I thought he was talking about Hartigan.

Its funny because Hartigan gets a great wrap by those in the know on the forum like @cochise

The TPJ thing where we we in, then out, gave me the impression there isn't the one man making the big decisions.

Hartigan is crucial for this club moving forward, he knows what he is talking about and has the guts to back it up. I have more faith in him than anyone else employed in the club and that includes Tim Sheens.

Mate, whilst I don’t known Hartigan at all, I hear from multiple sources that he is very good at what he does.

Cochise, do you have any truth or explanation to help us understand Simon woolfoods comments regarding hartigan, that he couldn’t get him to return a phone call or email to himself (player manager).

I’m sure there is more to this, as his reputation is the opposite of this. Hoping you can shed some light ?‍♂️?

I haven't read or heard the comments but that would surprise me, there would have to be an explanation. From what I have seen he is extremely punctual in his communications, even when dealing with people of minimal consequence.

It's worth noting that Simon Woolford is coaching Wagga Kangaroos and not a legitimate player manager. He was trying to get a couple of deals for some British players from his short ill fated coaching stint over there.

Every chance that Hartigan didn't get back to him coz Simon's a flog who doesn't actually represent the players he was spruiking. But that doesn't suit Pooper's agenda

I’m only speculating.

From an outsiders point of view, it appears that Hartigan does what he does with no politics or emotion. And that rubs a lot of invested people up the wrong way when the “next big thing” doesn’t hit his KPIs. I’m ok with this. It means things are changing within the organization.

I have dealt with him when my young bloke was at Roosters. He shouldn’t be anywhere near a senior squad. He couldn’t nail any role at the Roosters and was moved around for a couple of years. Whoever signed him to the GM role should be shown the door. Please tell me how you see him as the way forward. He failed in his roles at Roosters

Your young bloke now an origin star or did he not make it perhaps ?

Good info.

👍🏻

So he couldn’t nail down a role at the roosters but the roosters were unhappy to see him leave? Obviously Hartigan has been instructed not to pay overs and has his own system in place in which he evaluates players and puts forward offers based on it. While it hurts when we miss out on the TPJ’s etc, at the same time their is no risk of overpaying players and not getting the required performance from them. The only player in hindsight, imo, that the offer should of been bumped up on was Burton, who has shown already he is an exceptional talent, a halfback that can lead the team, he was a steal for the bulldogs at 450k per season.

Hey Cochise, heard our head of performance is giving it away, gray, (he was tapped I was told), and there getting rid of Ronnie as well, have you heard this?

I don't really see how someone can complain about Hartigan at this point. Plenty of good signings and the only really poor one is Joey Leilua, who was always going to be a high risk but potentially high reward signing and it's not like he signed him for 4 years, it's only 2. That's not to mention he probably helped with Luciano's development & happiness at the club and now Luciano looks like a long-term leader here.

I would like to see Hartigan be a bit more aggressive for elite talents, e.g. paying that bit extra for a Burton or splashing cash if someone like Manu is there for the taking, but otherwise he's done a good job.

Burton was always going to follow Barrett.

Could you please tell us what he specifically does to make him fail. What was he like in your dealings with him to not like him?

We only have to look at some of the finds who will be joining us next year to realise how much we have improved. There is the young PNG winger from Brisbane, the centre Dudley Dotoi from FNQ, Chris Faagutu from Marsden and one of his team mates plus the young prop from Keebra. Years gone by we would be lamenting this talent going elsewhere. Now it is the other QLD teams lamenting the loss of this great talent to WTs. If this is failure, please bring on more of it!

His name is Jimmy Ngutlik, a big tall winger and very strong in the PNG tradition. He looks to have good pace as well.

Oh yes. I remember that being mentioned on here. Looks. Talent. Maybe we are letting our young Flegg winger Hill go because of him?

I don't believe the club will let Jordan Hill go as I understand he highly regarded. Producing big fast wingers is cheaper than buying them. It defeats the purpose of junior development imo.

Signing for Tigers
April 29, 2021 The National Sports

By PARKER TAMBUA

PAPUA New Guinea-born Jimmy Ngutlik has joined the Wests Tigers’ Jersey Flegg Cup (Under-20) side in the New South Wales Rugby League with a view to progress through to Australia’s National Rugby League (NRL).
Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe told The National yesterday that the 20-year-old, from Kokopo, East New Britain, had been signed to join the NRL club’s pathway programme.
Pascoe said Ngutlik, who was with Queensland Intrust Super Cup side Redcliff Dolphins in the pre-season, was not in the Tigers’ top-30 squad.
Another Papua New Guinean, Kumuls fyler Edene Gebbie, is on a train-and-trial deal at Concord.
Pascoe said the young back had enough potential to reach the NRL.
“Jimmy arrived (in Sydney) last week and he is with our Jersey Flegg side which is the extended squad,” Pascoe said.
“Jersey Flegg is the correct pathway programme to our NRL side.
“If he (Ngutlik) can play well there then he has a chance to make the first grade squad.”
Meanwhile, Ngutlik was unable to comment about his arrival at the Tigers.
“I really don’t want to talk about it as I only got here last week,” he said.
“I am yet to play a game in the Jersey Flegg so I won’t comment at this stage.”
However, Ngutlik said his long-term goal was to play for the PNG Kumuls.
“Yes, I aspire to play for PNG one day,” he said.
“It’ll be a dream come true for me.”
Ngutlik is a former rugby union player who lined up on the wing and at centre for Wests Lions in the Australian Capital Territory Rugby Union (ACTRU) in Canberra before he switched to rugby league in 2018.
The Tigers Jersey Flegg side is coached by Wayne Lambkin who is a well-respected mentor at junior level.
Lambkin helped Queensland Origin representative Daly Cherry-Evans reach the NRL while he was the coach of Manly’s junior side in 2010. Ngutlik will benefit from Lambkin’s experience.
