I couldn’t care less about someone’s opinion or observation on Hartigan especially when relatives are involved and at another club.

It can’t be denied that he has been responsible for signing many talented young players into our system. Surely no-one can dispute that.

What Hartigan is being blamed for is not getting top NRL signatures. When he came here it was publicised that he would get our salary cap in order and not get us caught paying way overs again. Surely that is another tick for him?

We will struggle to sign marquee players because the other successful clubs will bid high for them anyway and until we are making finals ala winning, they won’t come here.

We are on the right track with the good young players we have we just need to find the right NRL experience to put with them at the right price. It hasn’t worked with Tamou, BJ, JTJ and others but they aren’t on long term deals so we keep trying.

My biggest worry is do we gave the right coach for this scenario? Personally, I don’t think Madge is that guy.

Excellent post mate.

Sorry mate, I know you're a fan of AH but I'm yet to see what he brings to the club. We've signed a few good juniors on his watch but not one quality NRL player and that's what we need to be competitive and attract better players. He won't pay overs but we get no-one because he won't pay overs. We need players of the quality of TPJ and better. If media reports were correct he offered Finucane a two year contract. What was the point of that when Finucane wanted four and might have settled for three. Why offer a guy a contract you know he won't accept. Our efforts to sign quality NRL players have been an embarrassment and that's all down to AH.

Yes, Finucane wanted 4 years, we offered 2 years - good move by the Tigers, he has been bog average since signing with the Sharks - told old for a 4 year gig, would have been another Packer job.

With respect, that makes no sense. If we offered him a contract, we wanted him. If we thought he wasn't up to it we shouldn't have offered him anything.

How doesn’t it make sense. We wanted him, but only saw his worth for 2 years as opposed to 4.

It doesn't.

Right, ok. Let me dumb it down for you. If we’re interested in a player, why not sign them for 10 years? Because there’s no way that player is going to have the same value in year 10 as opposed to year 1. So obviously the club didn’t see value in Finucane past a second year.

As soon as there is a little big of pressure they go to water. Absolutely no leadership in the team. I've defended Brooks for a long time but he is too meek and not a leader. Too many concessions have been made for him.
If Madge was to be moved on; can the tigers afford to fire another coach? Who do they get to replace him? They need to get better people around him.
The attack is just so predictable. Either a sweeping block play or a short ball to a forward. The defence is just completely pathetic. They need at least 3 leaders in different positions. Otherwise they are gonna lose players like Utoikamanu.

Disappointing to see a number of our best performers in the undefeated flegg side are not signed up.

Ogden, Hill, Pole not signed for next year (yet) and we’ve already lost Tuifua.

Pole has been signed for next year, Ogden’s manager met with Hartigan last week and Hill is highly rated by the club

From what I've heard Hill has literally been offered a bag of peanuts to stay at the club next season and there are other clubs now circling as they see an opportunity.

I would love to see Hill stay - the kid is talented and we lack serious depth on the wing, and he's a genuine finisher. I'll be filthy if the club don't retain and the imbecile in charge of retaining juniors should be out the door.

Agreed but wouldn't that be Hartigan?

Not sure - not impressed with him either way so far.

Hartigan’s an absolute myth.

This is what everyone that I know at the club tells me. I thought he was a good operator.

Really, what do they say?

Smart guy out of his depth. Hardly a vote of confidence bringing in sheens.

I remember Gould saying something a little while back when we signed Sheens. It was in code, but talked about needing footy experience in admin. At the time I thought he was talking about Hartigan.

Its funny because Hartigan gets a great wrap by those in the know on the forum like @cochise

The TPJ thing where we we in, then out, gave me the impression there isn't the one man making the big decisions.

Maybe he meant the likes of Pascoe and Chairman Lee should butt out of contract talks and leave them to the football department. Businessmen are there ti sign cheques and use their influence for TPAs, not to be involved in contract negotations with players

An average end to an average year
Some observations from the last few weeks

- cini should be signed to a nsw cup contract , he never regained confidence, he lead nsw cup with running meters and had a great game against at George, still young needs time in reggies

- we need a hooker, if brooks stays he should be in the 9, Simpkin needs more time and liddle had a full year to show us he ain't it

- nofo looks extremely frustrated with the team and his own form, if he also stays I expect a better year

- kepeoa will have a break out year next year, big body has speed can break tackles, his eyes are fixed he will be better

- fonua pole hopefully gets moved onto a developmental contract and makes a debut after round 11 next year, from storm system absolute beast

- the jet resign on min $$, and prey 😂

- give the team to Hastings, natural leader on the field, has that Win at all cost attitude / arrogance that the tigers haven't had in a number 7 ever

if we ‘need’ a hooker, sign a proven one in Mitch Rein. Brooks has not once looked interested to do anything from Dummy half other then flick a ball to a back. He does not look to engage the line from Dummy half etc.

- nofo looks extremely frustrated with the team and his own form, if he also stays I expect a better year
got more faith than me. Need to replace him. With a winger with speed and a winger that can make decisions under pressure.
- kepeoa will have a break out year next year, big body has speed can break tackles, his eyes are fixed he will be better
his our only fit Centre so the bar is low. Go well young lad.

still not sure about who is and isn’t on a dev contract next year. Kei seems to be the only one noted. A big problem considering we are the only club stupid enough to promise a first grade deal after spending time in the development deal.
- the jet resign on min $$, and prey 😂
hmmm….
- give the team to Hastings, natural leader on the field, has that Win at all cost attitude / arrogance that the tigers haven't had in a number 7 ever
I hope so.

I have supported Madge all year but putting Cini at fullback was absurd and then replacing him with Nofoaluma was insanity. I thought Amone would be good for us but he isn’t up to it. Please tell me it’s true Brooks for Tapine.. Hastings is far superior to Brooks

What else could he have done? 12 players unavailable which means the 18 that were selected were the only options.

1. Laurie
2. Nofoaluma
3. Gildart
4. Hoffman
5. Maumalo
6. Madden
7. Brooks
8. Utoikamanu
9. Liddle
10. Tamou
11. Leilua

17. Mikaele
18. Ofahengaue
19. Simpkin
20. Simpkins
21. Talau
22. Seyfarth
23. Kepaoa
24. Tuilagi
25. Doueihi
26.?
27?
28?
29?
30?

Kepaoa is an outstanding centre talent. He's big and fast as well as having good ball skills.

We are behind the eight ball already for next season already. With Doueihi and Talau out with ACLs our English replacements Hastings and Gildart just fill their spots til they get back. There is no improvement to the current squad. Our recruitment team must look at backs for next year. We are so light on here. We don’t have a back up fullback now our centres extremely weak halves poor. This is before starting on the pack which needs a ball playing lock front rower with mongrel and defensive second rower. The current squad lacks determination has no resilience or drive just goes through the motions.
To be a successful team the benchmark every season is defence usually the top 2 teams in defence fight out the premiership.
We have had a very poor defence as a club for atleast ten years. Until we improve our defence in general we won’t be making the semifinals for years which hurts me to say as a longtime supporter.

Adam Keighran and Drew Hutchison. Are they on contract for next year? They've been great for the Chooks. Keighran excellent at centre and Hutchison is playing at a level that Brooks could only dream of

Keighran can kick goals even when they don’t go between the posts.

What was that about...

Why aren't the goal posts black?
Wouldnt that make it easier to see what side of the post a white ball has gone?

Yep good one @FinestTigers thats the idea.
And having black posts makes them look a bit dramatic.

or a net like nfl?

Yep good one @FinestTigers thats the idea.
And having black posts makes them look a bit dramatic.

or a net like nfl?

Nets are used in nearly all football codes and also hockey. It would be a sensible move.

If we thought he wasn't up to it we shouldn't have offered him anything.

yet as a club we saw Nofoaluma's worth as 4 years, well done wests tigers

That was apparently the chairman not the football dept/club that decided that.I would have been happy with a 2 plus 1 CO but 4 years was too long
