How do we only have 4 spots left for next year that's scary

The fact we’re likely keeping Cini and Roberts is the club waiving the white flag in terms of recruitment

They have to say no to cini and amone.

Amone and Mikaele are the same. Bog average.

Both those players have shown signs they could develop into keepers. imo.

Waiting for some of our players to make a contribution is like leaving the porch light on for Harold Holt.

It is. The alternative is just as painful.
I hope we stop signing players over the age of 27 unless they’re already at the club.
Does anyone know who is responsible for the club’s contractual obligations with new players? Who is ultimately responsible for signing a new player?

Our roster is mostly bog average unfortunately.
Why would you keep Cini waste of spot. Park footballer.

I thought Cini’s debut was great and he could go on with it but after subsequent opportunities he seems awkward and clumsy - hobbling around, almost as if his boots are too small for his feet. I think we search for an unearthed speed demon to fill his spot.
I think Amone showed a lot of desire and he was hitting quite hard in defence plus managed a few one-on-one steals. It must have been difficult for the big fella to maintain fitness with such little game time.

Suli is a lazy trainer and hard to motivate. - get him away from Hasler and the old habits will return, you won’t hear of him again at the Dragons

Yes, for sure I would have. What I mean to say is the older players who have come to WT in the past few years have come with a “transition to retirement” attitude. We need to change that perception of us more than we need the so called leadership provided by those who are more focussed on their life after footy.
You could cherry pick a host of old players who’ve been successful at clubs but how many of them have come to WT?

I seem to remember that that was a bit of an issue, because of some lag time in getting the green light?
Pretty sure this was brought about because of Ivan?

So the experts get approval from the pen pushers.

Surprised?
Just like the process most organisations use for major expenditure items which may have implications for further developments.
What you going to have the Coach to make the decision on his own? Way to disaster.

It seems logical that Hartigan would have the responsibility of identifying and hiring in collaboration with Madge. I’m curious now, at what stage of the process would the board be made aware of Hartigan’s intentions? And what is the scope of the boards involvement, other than monitoring expenditures?

Does anyone know who is responsible for the club’s contractual obligations with new players? Who is ultimately responsible for signing a new player?

You wouldn't have signed Cameron Smith at 28?

Cameron Smith a different proposition than a busted Dale Finucane he will be legless at sharks

Huh?
Players over 27 is only Dale Finucane?
By the way calling him busted a thousand times doesn't actually make it true.
But anyway.....

I can call him whatever I like thanks
in my opinion 4 years for a busted player in that position is foolish and I am glad we didn't sign him for that length of time.
He will be a fish out of water in sharks system and get smashed he is not in Melbourne system anymore around those class of players

1001....still doesn't make it true.

and your comments do ???
Busted
yes it's true champ it's true

10002....still not true.

That's the way. Good suggestion.

Anyway, forget about Dale, he wasn’t being hired for his footy ability , it was his leadership and his attention to detail, the way he laced up his boots etc.

If Maguire is sacked will the new coach be determined by the players he can attract to the club? We all agree the current squad needs overhaul and injection of talent and experience from other clubs.

The biggest recruitment and retention failure we have had revolves around a lack of on field leadership.

We lost Benji Marshall, Chris Lawrence and Elijah Taylor in quick succession.

Other players we had looked at for leadership like Packer, Mautalino, Musgrave,McQueen, Thompson and a couple of others did not work out for one reason or another.

These players were never replaced. All we got was a washed up James Tahmou.

It has been an epic failure to understand what we had lost and do very little to replace it. Imo its the main reason we are where we are right now. A laughing stock!

Regardless of who coaches this mess not much will change without some on field leadership. For that reason we need at least 3 good quality on field leaders.More if we can release some contracted players who arent shaping up.

Hastings and Doueihi are what i would call on field leaders but we need to add to that.

Tariqu Sims is a must.

Luke Thompson and John Bateman would also help if we could fluke one of them.

The cupboard is pretty bare, we have left it too late to identify the problem.

Hopefully a couple more senior players are set to be shopped around, we sure as hell need them.

In hindsight Finucane would have been perfect however the 4yrs he wanted is way too many.

I would take his 4 years with heart and leadership against the 4 years of Noffa running sideways and looking at himself in the big screens

Look at Stefano being around finucane for a few weeks and how that developed his game. Finucane was a must for us. The exact leader from a winning culture we needed. I know we got burnt by tamou but you can’t compare the two players.

I don't buy that at all.

You reckon Stefano goes into Origin camp for a week, meets Dale Finucane and suddenly he comes out a better player? 9 months with the Tigers coach doesn't do it, a week with Dale Finucane gets the job done?

I'm not saying going into camp isn't valuable, of course it is, but to suggest a week in camp takes a player immediately to another level - I don't buy that one bit.
