Are the super league coaches being considered any good?

All downgrades

The way Madge had us playing a downgrade would be pretty hard to achieve. We would need to concede 60 every week for it to be a downgrade

I’m not quick to write off super league coaches. The quality of the players might be worse but they’ve still produced quality coaches. Robinson came from ESL.

If Madge has to go then so do some others.
A coach cant always wear the blame all the time. Though it does seem to be the way at Wests Tigers for over a decade

The Board is the issue, not the coach.

Its both

There might be more of an adjustment period when they first start in the NRL but just because they're in England doesn't mean they just aren't a good coach, it's very odd logic

Didn’t Maguire and Robinson come over from super league.
Was the same said about them

Probably. They went to strong club though with strong management.

After long assistant gigs in the NRL.

Robinson came from the ESL AFTER 3 years assistant coach at Newcastle and then Assistant Coach under Brian Smith at Roosters.

Woolf has been assistant coach at many NRL clubs, coaches reserve grade with success and coached Tonga with success as well as his current team St Helens

Steve McNamara has coached England and was an assistant coach at the Roosters and the Warriors before taking over at Catalans as well

Same same as Robinson

And McNamara was assistant to Robinson before heading to Catalan. I think there are good coaches here and good coaches there. I wouldn’t be opposed to a super league coach

You can argue semantics about who were assistant coaches where, but at the end of the day, will a coach coming from the ESL have any more pulling power at attracting players than Madge? That’s the biggest issue

Agree that is the issue for me.

Shaun Wane is madge mk2. Was madges assistant at Wigan, then became the head coach when madge went to souths. Issuing the structure and team madge established, he won 3 comps in 7 years. Now the English coach. I like him but it would be strange to sack madge to replace with wane.

Steve mcnamara was assistant at roosters for a bit under Robinson. Has taken Catalan from a pretty bad positron in 2017 to now to of the table with a 54% winning rate over the 4 years. Was previously the England coach.

Kristian wolfe is best known for coaching Tonga and loved by his team, really has embraced the culture and country. Now coaches st helens after Holbrook was appointed Gold Coast coach. Win the premiership in his first year (2020) and the challenge cup this year and will most likely play in gf against Catalan this year. Has also done a fair bit if nrk assistant coaching, under 20s and qld cup coaching. A little similar to madge in personality, quoted saying 'I swear too much' and is apparently scary in wrestling sessions. But could attract some great tonga talent.

I think they all have more runs on the board than cilraldo. But think woolf would be the strongest candidate

With Tim sheens by his side and a different view I think yes. Barrett clearly isn’t a great coach but he can obviously sell what’s he’s trying to do well. If a new coach is employed and I’m sure this will sound crazy to some but I’d have 3 people at the meeting, the coach, sheens and Lee. The coach and sheens to sell the club to the player and Lee to show what they can look towards after footy if signing with us what with business savvy and his current job. Leave the CEO out of all contract negotiations

Why does he have to comment whenever a player is signed ? Like his quotes are the first to appear. Surely other clubs don’t do this

What's the obsession these days with the pulling power of a coach? Cronilla sacked a good coach because they were concerned he couldn't attract players

The main question should be are they good coaches? If they are, and people can see that, then players will come.

But if that's the concern...

Holbrook came from esl and they signed fifita and tino

Of the three esl coaches mentioned, Woolf would attract the Tonga boys ave you'd think there would be respect from all the pacifika players. So if go with woolf

What's cilraldos track record in attracting players or more importantly as a head coach?

He wants his face all over the football club until it's time for responsibility. Then it's all about hat sales.

IMO It’s just an excuse by clubs to sack coaches who are on the nose and an idea perpetuated by media and managers to push the best players away from certain clubs.
