All this discussion is useless if the players have no heart and continues to give up in games.

This is a culture issue.

Maguire is the leader and should be driving cultural change. I guess it's only been 3 years and according to many the culture is still garbage. What does that tell you?

It tells you it takes a long time to fix a rotten culture and you need the support of everyone to do it.

Or, that there is nothing wrong with the culture in the joint and it is being used as an excuse.

I would think only making the playoffs 3 times since the merger over 20 years ago would put that many holes in your theory even a Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon supporter would find it hard to believe it especially considering 50% of the teams make it every year

We're a merge of two clubs that always had to fight hard to field competitive teams. Making the playoffs 3 times in 20 years is perhaps indicative of that fact. It doesn't lesson my support for WTs, Balmain or Wests.

We were on the verge of a being highly competitive a few years ago with the emergence of highly talents juniors. I am glad we are revisiting that strategy.

To blame it on our culture is a furphy.

So being a retirement destination and taking payments and not putting in is not a culture issue. Ok.

The word culture gets tossed about so frequently on this forum that it eventually becomes a truth.

The desertion of Australian troops was the reason for the fall of Singapore in Feb 42 if you believed folklore. It was repeated so often it became a fact to many but it was not the truth.

The club has brought in a coaching director and is hiring two new assistants. Actions v words.

Culture:
The ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.

Wests Tigers culture has been crap for over a decade, even longer. The current coach is trying to change that. It takes time to overcome a decade+ of rubbish.

The coach may be trying to do a lot of things but after 3 years it's apparent he doesn't have it. A coaching director and assistants approved by those above him are not good indicators of faith in his ability.

I am yet to see any evidence that he is able to gameplan for the modern game, we play a defensive style that does not suit the modern game and he is still running slow motion block plays.

Why did he bring in Bj and Jimmy the jet then. Not sure they are the blokes you want to change the culture within your club.

I don't thin Roberts is that bad for culture. He is honest about his problems and seeks help when needed.

Low cost risk.

Whats cost got to do with culture. Surely its about getting the right blokes in your squad. What they get payed is irrelevant.

See the difference…
Benji has done and still doing everything in Rugby League at his age.
Let’s see if AD is still running around in 15 years
And even with this club,as at the moment we have no chance playing in the Semifinals let alone Grand Finals

??

Plays off the bench for a team that rarely misses the finals.

Put Moltzen in that 14 jersey and he'd look satisfactory too.

Benji #1 fan over here.

Benji was and still remains one of the greats at WTs and in the NRL. A generation of kids grew up trying to imitate that fantastic step. He will always remain a WTs' great no matter how many supporters on this Forum attempt to rewrite history. And Moltzen was a really good footballer. Try playing with a metal plate in your skull. That young man has a lot of guts. He also is a favourite of mine.

Agree. We talk about building culture here but we continually under value our players. The disgusting way Robbie Farah was treated in the past & how Benj was let go last year is the problem. If young up & coming kids see how our club greats are disrespected, why would they want to play here? Although Benji was past his best, what he could teach our development players was worth his contract price alone, not to mention instilling his passion for the Tigers as well. Instead, Bennett & Souths have got that value, and they did not put one cent into developing Benji as a junior. Until we realize the true value of all our players , both past ,present & juniors coming through, we will be in this situation for years to come.

You mean the same plays that put Tommy Turbo in space or the same plays that give Cody Walker his options on his outside?

There is only one team that doesn’t play like that and they happen to have a bulldozer in the centres and a two prong Dummy Half attack a lot like Farah and Dean from 05.

Why did he bring in Bj and Jimmy the jet then. Not sure they are the blokes you want to change the culture within your club.

Low cost risk.

Whats cost got to do with culture. Surely its about getting the right blokes in your squad. What they get payed is irrelevant.

Cost is absolutely tied to the rotten culture. Retirement mentality. Getting paid heaps to have a bludge. Having said that Roberts was not a cultural risk but an asset. BJ didn’t work out.

Gee I hope we get a couple signed up next week , it can’t keep going like this , we need some positive now to get people to relax a little , also so we don’t miss out completely on what’s available , it should be fairly easy as our chair is a lawyer so you would think a few days to but it out ,

I would suggest culture is more about accountability not cost. Our own captain offers nothing every week but continues to get picked. Madge should be the one setting these standards but does nothing. Why does he keep picking blokes with sub par performances every week. He can blame the players all he wants. He is the one creating the culture.

See the difference…
Benji has done and still doing everything in Rugby League at his age.
Let’s see if AD is still running around in 15 years
And even with this club,as at the moment we have no chance playing in the Semifinals let alone Grand Finals

Surely your taking the piss or you have no idea.....
He plays like 15mins a game and struggles in that time WITH an all star team all around him..
He can still play attacking footy and I will give him that but that's Rocks and Diamonds... No comment of his defence as it is just passable for the time he plays but if he was still here playing 80mins he would be steamrolled on a weekly basis.
Don't get me wrong he was a great player in his time but he age has caught up and good time for him to finish.
What a lot of people don't understand was last year when Benji wanted another year we said no because we already had 5-6 halves under contract and needed the spot for other positions. Mbye, Reynolds, Brooks, Madden, Walters. No club is going to carry that many halves in the squad and we still had Reynolds at that stage as well on big money - If we were able to offload Reynolds before this decision was made I believe we would off offered to keep him for this year but it didn't happen like that..
It was a 100% correct decision from Tigers IMO and gave Adam D / Madden time in the halves that they would not have got if he stayed.
He will not get another contract next year as he father Wayne is leaving.

Madge does heaps. Trying to teach young blokes what is needed to be winners. It’s our more senior players that are doing diddly squat. You can only pick from the squad available, they need time to develop. Madge is the one changing the culture and the senior players, here before Madge, are resisting hoping they could get him pushed out the door. Well guess what, it didn’t work.

He has dropped players plenty of times enough to make them leak to the media that they were walking on eggshells. That's the crap he is dealing with.

Pretty sure our chair said the other day when talking about keeping Madge that the recruitment team have been in overdrive and should have some announcements in the coming weeks.. I think it was Vossy he was talking to..
Sounded promising but it has been like that for years now so will cross fingers and wait and see.

The real rush should be to re sign players for long term gain. Not sign nupties and nobodies for the sake of signing someone.

If we tied down Stefano this off season and that’s it, I’m happy

100% agree ... We need to upgrade and extend Stefo (at all costs) and Laurie..
We need to add some experience also but only shorter deals unless they are stars
