coming to play under Madge. And rightly or wrongly, **he’s about appealing as a holiday on Venus.**

Gold ^^^^

Seriously though, if is as has been mentioned by a few with sources that Maguire is an additional impediment to recruitment also existing elsewhere in WT, then that just makes things worse.

I remain positive Hartigan and Sheens can work it to attract some really good young players and maybe a capable vet to improve the roster.

Just plain childish, rude and ignorant to not mention the coach, fgs do you not think players and their managers won’t know.
You lost the battle, get over it.

One is GM of Football, the other Coaching Director and both senior to Maguire.

Deal with it.

I don't think anyone other than you @pawsandclaws1 needs to deal with it.

We all get it that you must be shattered that you could be so glaringly and obviously wrong through your prolonged and rubbish posts on here about the demise of Maguire.

But, to try to convince us all about some WT organisational structure that you have invented to ease your embarrassment is, in equal parts, funny and sad.

Paws is right though.

So, you're a "paws" apologist and fanboy. No surprise that you would think he is "right". He, and you, got it horribly wrong on the sacking of Maguire, so good luck with trying to convince us otherwise.

The problem is this - players aren't coming to the club to play under Hartigan - they're coming to play under Madge. And rightly or wrongly, he's about appealing as a holiday on Venus.

The question I have is then why have Hartigan recruiting players at all. Either they want to play under Maguire or they just want a pay cheque.

Sick of the Hartigan talk. From what I've seen he is just another part of the problem.

His position is just complicating the process

Correct its become about saving your job first and not club first.

Just read in the tele that Eels are in negotiations for Nick Cotric. Lets hope we are too. Would be a big improvement in the centres for us.

wow dogs paid him 600k

Parra always sniffing around for a club that paid overs

So where were they when Packer, Reynolds and Mbye were here?

Well officially it's his role to lead those negotiations and identify player talent. In reality though, the players are going to be having a good think about who will be coaching them and Madge's reputation now precedes him unfortunately.

I hear this talk all the time. Can you tell me the last top echelon player we attracted before Madge? All Ivan’s signings were attracted by the giant pay packet we gave them.

The last couple that come to my mind are Gareth Ellis and Lote who were back when we were recently challenging for a premiership.

Correct, however, the fact is that we could not sign "another superstar" when we had: Tedesco, JAC/Koroibete, Simona, Moses, Lui/Brooks, Woods, Fifita, Suli, Farah, Marshall etc.

Unfortunately, after more than 100,000 posts, the strike rate is not all that flash.

Maybe we should persevere with it for another 48 hours and see what eventuates.

I honestly think that’s a myth. If players are looking for an opportunity or we pay them enough they will come here. It’s more a West’s Tigers reputation than a Madge one IMO

Madge certainly has something to do with it. I asked a mate of mine who is off contract at the end of this year if he'd consider coming to WT and he said not while Maguire is there.

I still say to that - if players don't want to play under made because he makes them train hard - the they are not the players we need at WT

But also think madge has made changes to how him operates over the last few years that doesn't fit the stereotype of him

that's fair enough. I think Madge gets the rough end of the stick for sure but unfortunately there is some players in the game that won't play under him. one decent marquee can change all that though

ahhh it was pretty short and sweet, just effectively said he's heard that Madge is very intense and it wouldn't bring the best out in him. a lot of different personality types in the NRL, we just need to find the ones that fit the Madge mould

Madge certainly has something to do with it. I asked a mate of mine who is off contract at the end of this year if he'd consider coming to WT and he said not while Maguire is there.

Sorry my phone did a weird double quote glitch so I’ll try again.

Without being too personal, did they add any detail?

ahhh it was pretty short and sweet, just effectively said he's heard that Madge is very intense and it wouldn't bring the best out in him. a lot of different personality types in the NRL, we just need to find the ones that fit the Madge mould

Cheers for that.

I agree, based on this argument "because of Madge". So why are players going to the Bronc's & the Dog's? I would rather have Madge than Walters or Barrett? They are going to those clubs because we are not offering the $'s anywhere near what the others are prepared to pay.

We are on a development program I thought, it takes time but we really need to splash the cash to attract a few priority signings? And we haven't.

Madge has had to cope with nearly $2m of player cap, not capable of playing FG anymore. Some of the players who are playing, are just not putting in, they are being well paid and not delivering, they have contracts, so not much you can do about it until they finish?

Some have said, that Madge has kept his job, because other coaches wouldn't come? I think that is rubbish, but what it dose it say to me, is it's more about what the club is doing about signings? They are not prepared to pay? Who would want to come and if they were fair dinkum, Madge wouldn't be under the supposed scrutiny he was? Hopefully that will now cease and we utilise the cap as we should.

I love the Forum and it's passionate contributors. We all want our club to be successful but there is no silver bullet. I have followed Western Suburbs since 1977 and Wests Tigers since 2000 with only 2005 the only Grand appearance and win. Very slim pickings. Let's hope we improve on 13th spot next season and systems are put in place for future success. The way WT played this season concerns me as most games we looked like they met each other a couple of hours before the game. I could not identify with our attack or defence. It is going to be a long off season and many more pages of speculation but we will all be back next season with some hope and maybe same disappointments. Thanks to all those who run this Forum and thanks to the passionate Forum members. See you in 2022.

Is it possible that players don’t want to be coached by Madge not because he trains them too hard but because the view is he can’t improve their game? And it can’t just be about our facilities, manly have equally terrible training facilities and Des just took them to a semi final

Manly have a 5 min drive to Narrabeen and Colloroy from training . And none of the baggage we have around the joint . We make the finals just once and that all goes away . Until then , we are the Cleveland browns of the NRL, with all the media and angst that goes with it .
Basically the least desirable destination in the NRL.
Not the worst roster , not the worst coach , not the worst anything really, just 1st place media scrutiny for a bottom placed team.
I’d say screw that too. Everytime you have an off game , it’s pitchfork time . Imagine everytime you have a crap day , someone is asking for you to lose your job ? Rightly or wrongly , that’s really the rugby league equivalent of playing handball above a volcano.
