We’d have been better off with Taylor than Hastings.

Have you become a fortune teller? You already know how Hastings is going to go next year?

How’s my fortune telling any different to someone 2 pages back saying he’d be halfback of the year?

In GNR’s defence there have been times where Taylor has outplayed the best halves in the NRL. Hastings hasn’t.

The fact that some people want Taylor is indicative of how much our club loves mediocrity. It's just a massive no. He's been a failure for many years now. The chances of him coming good again are one in thousand.

We're much better off targeting players that can have an immediate impact, or at least have the possibility that they'll turn into the player we need during the contract. We can't keep gambling our precious squad spots trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

If we had a dozen roster spots open then maybe for 150k on a one year deal. With where our squad is no way...

Taylor at the right price to me is a good buy. The outlay is not great but the returns could be great if he fires. I don't believe the Gold Coast is the easiest place to concentrate with so many distractions.

So you see no value in having a noted organiser in Hastings having one of the two positions?
Or you like the idea of Taylor being a backup for either Brooks or Hastings.

Taylor and Brooks.

So you’ve told me regularly that Maguire uses Brooks incorrectly by making him doing too much organising.
Who is going to organise if your not playing an organiser?

You also don’t see a place for Hastings in the 17? Or a utility off the bench?

Cleary had no issue with Brooks. I provided a link to where he said I let him play to his strengths.

Still not answering the question. I guess Marshall did all the organising back then. I’ve seen you’ve mentioned that Taylor you believe is going to be the organiser.

If that’s the case why aren’t the Raiders signing him. If he is mentally on his game he would be perfect for them.

Yet, not only did he play limited times this year, the titans used him as the second play maker and gave Foggerty all the kicking duties.

Also I’m curious; yet you’ve said Hastings is not a current NRL player. So where do you see him playing? Partnering Madden in KOE Cup?

How am I responsible for the recruitment decisions of the Raiders?

I believe Ash Taylor has a lot to offer with mentoring.

No comment on Hastings other to add he will discover nearly all NRL forwards are much faster then he is and they will target him in defence. Makes play making far harder than the ESL.

Just surprised Ricky isn’t going after him. I genuinely think he could be exactly what they need.

I agree, a lot of mentoring needed, but more importantly encouragement and coddling.

Last part I’m not sure about. Whilst I agree with you, the game hasn’t changed a whole heap from when he started as a rookie. He may of forgotten about the step up but in my opinion he handled it then and I believe he will handle it again.

If Taylor is in fine form. I would be happy to have Hastings as the 14 as originally planned.

Either way Hastings is signed to the club and ash taylor isnt until he is then we can talk about who is better and where they should play as of right now ash taylor is headed to the warriors

I've been told by a pretty decent source that Ash Taylor is close to signing with us. Not a done deal but apparently we are in talks

Doesn't make much sense to be with us having four halves on the roster already. I know Doueihi will miss some games and Hastings is an unknown quantity but seems a bit pointless to me. Not sure on length or cost

Taylor is a highly talented player and if on his game will be a huge asset to WTs.

Unfortunately he hasn't been on his game for a very long time

Yet he's still playing better footy than Brooks

Taylor's problems from the stories I have heard is that is he a big time party boy who loves to drink if he gets his off field demon's fixed he will rise again

There was problems at the roosters with pearce and Hastings dad being a club legend his old man said some not so nice things to uncle Nick then they shipped him to manly where he was a consistent solid option but DCE and jacko just didn't see eye to eye then had the bust up

So its not just that he punched DCE in the head? Its that he couldnt get on with two sets of team mates and colleagues? Hell of an endorsement.

And since then he has got along great with his team mates, coaches and fans at two different clubs. If we could give a head stomper a go, we can give someone who was a bit of a pest a few years ago a go.

I have no problem with that, just clarifying that he wasnt excluded for punching DCE in the head. No NRL club wanted him.

Do you think that if Cameron Munster punched Brandon Smith in the head tonight and Melbourne sacked him, would he be in Salford in February?

Maybe the question you should be asking is “Do you reckon if Munster and Brandon Smith did lines tonight they’d be at West’s Tigers by Monday?” Probably more realistic. What am I saying, they’d never come here.

@Tiger5150 this was long ago and hes grown since then as a person hes determined to play his hardest and prove to everyone in the nrl hes a good player he's a goer he will rip and tear and go at anyone he doesn't care if you're a rookie or a 10 year veteran he wants to win at any cost and that's what we need

Mate Im willing to give him the chance. Sounding a lot like Josh Reynolds so far, but with less NRL experience.

But with playing ability

Lets see shall we? Reynolds had played SoO. 13 of Hastings 14 games at Manly were off the bench.

Hastings is more than ready for nrl first grade he wasn't ready for the off field stuff which is why he's come back he wants to prove himself watch his bloke in a bar he talks all about it

All he does is talk - mates from the UK are wishing us luck with him…

They say we’re going to need it.
His team just got done by Robert Lui’s team didn’t they?

@batboy Hastings was one of Wigan's best all year the team was ravaged by injury and they broke down simple as that but all year the one stand out has been Hastings ability

Hastings, please bring that ability.
Just don't be a Todd Carney. Easts and Manly have let you go when they clearly saw you had talent.

To be fair, he wasn’t and still is not

Taylor would be a backwards step.
And Hastings is a wildcard!

Both clubs in UK cant speak more highly of him as a player and a person. Both have said his effort and dedication were second to none and he bought into to the culture at both clubs better than most. Pommy mates of mine who are massive Wigan fans absolutely gush over him.
