I don't think I deleted it but we are cleaning up some of the off topic posts in this thread so it may have been because of that.

Most humourless forum I've ever seen.

Humourless is better than dad humour, which consists of about 90% of what humour there is

The Hodgson vs Api situation is very interesting. I am not saying this will happen I actually think it will fall through (knowing the tigers). But looking in as a fan Hodgson is definitely the better option long term if we can get rid of Liddle. Simpkin is a class hooker and has proved this in KOE and first grade. Our problem is and has been for a while is an 80 minute hooker. For me wasting a bench spot on a hooker or utility is silly especially for a team like the tigers. It needs to be 4 big men. I think Simpkin does need to be phased into 80 minutes but Hodgson is perfect for the whole team.
Hodgson is a leader and has the British connection with Hastings, Gildart and Sheens. Which you would think would tempt him to come. Only flaw for me is that he is injury prone but that is easily fixed. IE: Hastings, Simpkin and I would like to see Dockar-clay in the top 30.

In conclusion, in the long run and for the team you would think Hodgson is the wiser choice. With Simpkin at 14 to add attacking flare. But we will see how the meat head of Pascoe sorts this us.

As it stands, Liddle is streets ahead of Simpkin…
How anyone sees it does different is beyond me.
Simpkin may have more upside in the long run, I’ll think you might find Liddle does as well.
If Liddle and Madge don’t work - that may be a separate issue…
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Liddle end up at the chooks… he has time with the ball, he’s a bit underdone - and has some work to do… but you can’t buy time…

Liddle is a Hooker who can't pass accurately and has no kicking game. He's pretty limited and one dimensional. What's worse for him is he lacks the cardiovascular capacity to play a full game

Can't believe there were 3 ppl who downvoted this. I feel you've stated complete truth.

Liddle is developing a fan base much like Brooks... except Brooks fans bailed, I believe.

People are even starting to make rubbish excuses for Liddle.... "oh he fatigues that's why he struggles" for a start he's a professional player that's played over 50 games, he shouldn't be getting tired after 20 mins as a dummy half. Different if he's a prop

Secondly he can't pass! No matter what time of the game he manages to throw a pass at Brooks ankles or over Doueihis head.

Not saying he's completely rubbish and should be punted but it's pretty clear we need a lot more direction at hooker and if you're choosing one of Liddle or Simpkin to put time into and develop, you always choose Simpkin.

There's no harm in keeping both our current hookers AND signing Hodgson either

Liddle seems like a good person.

His strength is definitely his running game.
Passing, kicking, game management all pretty non existent.

Yes his career has been hampered with injuries but what's the lack of cardio reasoning ?

He told Robbie he wants to be an 80 minute hooker but hasn't shown he can handle it at any time.

Lots to work on.

Bloke can run that's for sure, but I'd prefer a hooker with classy service and control over a hooker who likes to run. Danny Levi can run but he's still average

Also I miss Harry Grant

Agree with everything.

Heard Levi has a bad attitude but he's friends with my brother and reckons he's the most genuine guy ever

Never impressed me as a player tho.
Grant is the GOAT

The best kind. Very dry.

Back on track..

Clearly centre is an issue for us, seems we're going into 2022 with AJ & Oli or Roberts in mind until Talau is ready...

Not sure we'll recruit any that'd push for a start and the above list is very underwhelming.

Likely to lose Ogden so what's everyone think the road map is here to improve this clear issue we have as no first grade appropriate centres?

Try and talk about potential signings in here thanks. It generally works better that way.

Yep agree, I consider this priority 1 even over second row/lock for next year. Our centres this year directly cost us multiple games and this year we are going in with even less.

@JC99 The issue in keeping both and also having Hodgo is the amount of roster spots taken up. As it stands if Hodgo joins and no one is moved on it would take the roster numbers to about 28 or 29. With only a top 30 you can't really afford to carry 3 hookers who all see themselves as starters.

Seriously? Only a year ago the storm had Smith, Smith and Grant all on their books...for three seasons

I don't hate Talau but it's clear as day he's not first grade ready yet at this stage of his career.

He played the majority of the year and made so many mistakes.
He needs to develop in #cup.

Roberts isn't as good as he once was and those who think Gildart will be a star, I love the enthusiasm but not sure they've watched him play.

He's on a working holiday essentially and should be in cup and only used when we are desperate like Pauga.

AJ the dark horse who may be good, hoping so.
But still, we need another centre...

Is there any young up and comers wanting a chance ? Will Penisini style... but not him exactly but some one similar..

Unaware of any decent centres coming through our grades.

Though if we ran with Hastings and Brooks in the halves, Doueihi would lock down one centre position, and then Talau/Gildart/AJ/Roberts could all fight it out for the other, doesn't look quite as bad then, surely one of those four could claim the spot.

Good point. I don’t think it’s a certainty that Liddle gets tapped on the shoulder. For all we know, the plan may be for Simpkin to spend some more time in KOE next year.

Long term, he may be, but as of now, Simpkin isn’t a better player than Liddle, so why would Jacob think he’ll be the odd man out.

Comparing the Tigers to anything that Melb does is ridiculous tbh. Melb are a different animal when it comes to finding ways to fit guys in and they are gernational players you're talking about, not guys like Liddle, Simpkins and Hodgo. Grant spent a season with Tigers and prior to that had only played less than a handfull of games for Melb so that argument is basically invalid. Brandon largely used as a 13 as well or when Grant injured this season.

You're missing the point I made completey. I said we only have a couple of spots left in the top 30 available for next yr so unless someone is released to free up a spot or 2 then makes absolutely zero sense having 3 hookers in your top 30 when there is obvious need for a Centre, another Prop and another Backrower.

With the way the games going hooker is no longer an 80min position...best to go with two big bopper/an edge middle hybrid and a utility to play 9.

nah - you still need some creativity around the ruck - a good 9 gets the team on the front foot and is a good defender in the middle - a utility 9 just shuffles the ball out and is a fair defender at best. With our lack of creativity in the halves we need a 9 who can set things in motion.
