Wouldn’t think Parra would release him early.

If they didn’t release Stefano a year early, no way will they let Papali’i go. And nor should they. They won’t find a better player for 200k anywhere in the comp.

The shortest glimmer of hope I could grasp onto would be that in the effort to keep the big names, they create space in this years cap to front load.

we will pay about 600K, eels won't match it. met with us last week, met with eels this week. likes our offer, feels loyalty to BA and the eels. won't get released this year unless something spectacular happens. decision shortly

Apparently Papalii is due to sit down with Eels management for them to reconsider their offer, using, it seems, our offer as the lever to get them to up theirs. I will be very surprised if he comes to us, even if they offer him less, which they will. He wants to stay there and will take a cut in money to do so - that’s my read for what it’s worth. I don’t think he has had any intention to jump ship- another Api deal.

Sounds like a similar scenario as Oshay and Matterson. Both were performing above their price when they were here. Somehow they got out.

We need to get better at negotiating this type of thing.

oooooh, dare to dream? This would be a perfect signing. Forget the "marquee" Latrell, JAC etc signings. Get this guy on $600-$700 and now you are talking.

I don't think that Papalai is a show man like Latrell and JAC. He seems to be a very honest harworking contributor /team man.

Not even over $300k apparently. No benefit at all for them to release him, they'd have to replace him and it wouldn't leave that much extra money to upgrade players plus he's quality

I haven’t seen many, if any. Personally, I got no issue with it, as long as it isn’t crazy overs. The club needs a win on the recruitment front. A change from signing players 3 or 4 years past their used by date.

Having been there only 1 year, He and his family will have no emotional connection with the Eels, so I don’t see his family talking him out of the deal to join us….unless he is fibbing to us
