It's a shame because Lucy was one of my favourites but 700k is pretty ridiculous. All I can hope for is the bloke honours the rest of his contract and puts in for 2022
He's requesting an early release
?
You have to ask yourself why is it that Tigers players always want an early release from their contract but when we sign Papalii he honours his. It's a part of the clubs culture that needs to be changed
$$$$$
Papalii's only earning $150k for the upcoming season and yet he isn't chucking a fit and asking for a release. Our club gets no respect from the players and something needs to change. The Storm, Roosters, Parra rarely have players chucking fits and asking for releases because they're professional. Us on the other hand, have a player or two asking for an early release every off season.
Papalii a rare exception. Plus he’s at a competing club. What more is Luch going to achieve with us earning half of what he’s about to earn ? Not really all that confusing imo
That's exactly my point. You don't see players at Melbourne, Roosters, Parra, etc sooking and requesting early releases from their club because they play for a proper well run football club. Brandon Smith is honouring his contract, so too did Josh Addo-Carr, Joey Manu before testing the market, etc. It seems we're stuck in a perpetual cycle of signing a player of potential, developing them into solid first graders and then having them sook and break their contracts early to move on. We'll never succeed like this and something has to change, whether it be refusing Lucy a release and having him play NSW cup the rest of the year unless we are compensated appropriately. Unlike what happened with Matterson, Moses, Aloiai, etc where we basically just gave in and embarrassed ourselves.
