This signing would be perfect to keep him. An experienced dummy half to ease him into grade and in 3 years it’s his team. I think It works well for all

Yeah I'm sure Simpkin would happily wait around for 3 more years in reserve grade decreasing his market value. Signing Api will mean we'll lose an absolute young gun. Not a smart move

Not sure anyone really sees it that way tbh. Simpkin can still play his role off the bench or start if Api is injured. Simpkin is definitely not physically up to starting every game and playing 80mins and Lids is so far off what this team needs atm. There's a place for both Simpkin and Api.

If Storm can juggle Grant and B.Smith for a few years, Im sure we can fit in both our two.

A third on the other hand (Liddle), youd have to think would look elsewhere.

100%. I know B.Smith being able to play lock helped their cause somewhat however there were times when both Lids and Simpkin were on the field together this yr. Maybe Simpkin and Api can be used in a similar manner.

I think if you start talking to Api or Simpkin about playing Lock, they would be in for it.
Api will want to play SOO again and him not being able to play another position was a real handicap.
Simpkin is young enough that he could develop into anything.

Liddle, he is probably too small for lock. I don't really know where else he could fit. He would be a decent Off the Bench impact player, but I don't know if he has that flexibility to cover a lot of positions.

Hoping We sign Koroisau, No matter whom we loose.

Simpkin is a big lump of a kid for a hooker, I def feel he could be used as 13 at times and he was at times when both him and Lids were on the park together.

Sharks discard Billy Magoulias attempting to revive his NRL career via a stint in England

Back in the mid 1980s, a nomadic 24-year-old ball-playing forward moved to England to hone his skills and gain the confidence to become a regular first grader.

Gavin Miller went on to return to the NRL and become a modern-day great, a dual Dally M winner and Cronulla Sharks legend.

Nearly four decades later, 24-year-old Billy Magoulias appears to be following in Miller's footsteps.

A similar clever ball-player and sometimes member of the Sharks' top side, Magoulias has moved to English club Warrington in a bid to further his rugby league talents.

Unable to secure a contract in the NRL, Magoulias is hoping the Wolves will give him the opportunity to realise his undoubted potential.

"I've had a bit of a frustrating time the last couple of years," Magoulias, who famously won Newtown the 2019 NSW Cup grand final over Wentworthville in extra time, then the NRL State Championship a week later, told Wide World of Sports.

"I was 18th man a lot and got a few chances but couldn't cement a regular place in the team.

"Then my managers had a few nibbles from NRL clubs for next season - the Tigers showed some interest and Canberra all but agreed before backflipping.

"Then the opportunity came up with Warrington and I thought it might be just what I need.

"They are a strong club in Super League and I've been very impressed with what I've seen and heard about them."

Magoulias has already played international football - representing Greece in the 2021 World Cup qualifiers.

His destiny is now in his hands.

"I've signed for 12 months with a 12 month option and will give it my all," he said.

Remember when the talk was all about Billy coming here - would have liked singing him, but we have bigger fish now.

And?

what was the point of re-signing liddle than if we wanted to go after a hooker ???

Did anyone ask the Roosters why the re-signed Pearce and then went after Cronk?

You won't lose Simpkin. He'll need to be on the bench, as Api is not an effective 80 minute player.

What not an effective 80 minute player?!? Punt him.
Where’s the Jedi? We can’t have a player in that position not playing 80 minutes! Outrageous....

Surely the plan is Api for 22, 23, 24.

Would be a hard sell considering the Panthers are yet again a premiership threat. They would have no desire to weaken themselves downgrading from their premiership hooker to a Kenny, Liddle, etc...

Listen Liddle is a superstar and just what a team like Panthers need, a hooker who can punch out a quality 20 mins and pass poorly

Yet Liddle is still a better player than Simpkin who suffers from white line fever as well as everything else you criticise Liddle for

who is 9 games in to his career not 64
Time will help Simpkin, obvious Sheens doesn't rate Liddle as highly as other did as they keep having cracks at Hodgo now Api desperate for a quality 9

Back again I see Jedi, with the slipper! Classy. Look I do agree that api is a quality hooker and is a better hooker than liddle at this point in his career. But he turns 30 next year and spent a big portion of last season injured. If u were smart, u would have to ask why the panthers don’t want him next season???
So we sign him on a 3 year deal starting in 23, so 34-35 years old in his last season with us, a bit of a risk. 3 years is ok if it starts next season.
Maybe we should start a thread of people’s hatred for brooks, Nofa and liddle, so Jedi and others don’t have to travel to far to get their kicks??

why don't we just start ab All the way Thread for your support of Liddle nothing negative allowed here
you are right let's not sign a SOO rep player and GF winner in Api and keep Liddle please
With Brooks no other option in the halves so he stays.

You're just here to invent arguments man,
Seriously - It's getting old.
No one said Liddle is amazing, No one said don't sign Api...
No one says half the crap you claim they do.

Pull your head in.

yet I get criticised for saying move Liddle on you don't need 3 hookersif we sign Api

IF.... IF.

I get you like liddle good luck to you, If he was the answer why would we be looking at Hodgo and now Api we seem desperate for a 9

Get that you talk first - And as often as possible, And possibly don't bother to read at all....
But go back to the list of Hookers I named (Including Api) that would be an improvement on Liddle, I also stated that UNLESS we're signing one of them, It's best to keep Liddle... (Or words to that effect)
IF - IF we sign one of those players, Then the conversation changes... But that hasn't happened yet - As I've told you before, I deal in reality only.
Api also has the option to join a top 4 side, That would be a like for like replacement of the player they've lost...

What happens if we sign Api for 23, And Simpkin requests a release on compassionate grounds to go home and join the Dolphins... We've got one hooker.
There's no logic in anything you've said up until now...

I think Simpkin may well request a release to Dolphins if we dont play him e.g. sit in reserves all year behind Liddle. Dolphins are desperate they will probably pay overs to bring him home. The guy is a talent a choice would need to be made between 2 of the 3, its probably not right to stand in Liddles way if he is not the clubs second option anyway if they see Simpkin as the future.

Is Simpkin a stone kicker..?

No one is suggesting he will be in reggies, plenty of room for both he and Api in the 17. Most teams run 2 hookers or at least a 14 who can play hooker.

Very different sure. And when they still had C.Smith, they (arguably) 3 of the top 5 hookers in the game at the time. Crazy.

It will be tricky for WT in regards to how we handle it, it's not a position we're used to being in (having various good players in one position and figuring out who to keep) but we're going to have to figure it out.

I suspect that if we do pick up Api, we will offload Liddle very shortly. But let's see what happens.

Whilst people are unjustly negative about Lids - As he is not on the Forum, I will always stick up for him.

Im not prepared to loose jake Simpkin.

I repeat my earlier question to crazycat - How do you reach that decision when Simpkin is smaller than Liddle?

Simpkin listed at: 183cm, 94kg
Liddle listed at: 184cm, 91kg.........

Both very different in their style though.

Russ we get you have an infatuation for Lids and that's fine just no need to constantly jump on the defensive when someone disagrees with your love for the kid.

Given that the site is hardly ever updated, the youngster might have grown since joining us over a year ago when those stats were loaded.

Mate I'm not here to have a pissing contest over what site says what. Lets just agree to disagree on Lid's value to the team. You're intitled to your love for him just as we're intitled to see him as expendable should Api or Hodgson end up signing.

Do I wish things had worked out better for him? Of course, he's been very unlucky with the injuries he's had over the years and I honestly saw him as Robbie's successor at one point. I just feel that boat might have sailed now.

There has also been a lot of talk from various sources that he's not a fan of Madge. Unfortunately Madge and the team can't afford to hold onto players that aren't willing to buy into his methods and the direction the club is heading.
