2022 is more rebuilding.
Getting the young guns ready and more experienced.

Getting a few guys like Brooks, Nofo and Liddle to play well so we can put them on show and hopefully ship em off to NQ or the Dragons.


What about shipping off your mate Doueihi? He’s a bit of a liability? Two knee reconstructions, the clocks ticking. Not to mention Twal, he look like a tree stump out there, no line speed, they more or less just trip over him! Can even pass the ball, EVER?? He has the imagination of a fence post.
I always love it when they pass it to him on the forth tackle with his devastating evasiveness and ball skills close to the line...

Don’t think the defensive work around the ruck is important?


Look just stirring demps a bit. He’s always keen to hassle players but never the cedars!
Back to Twal, great tackle completion %, but stats are not truly accurate. If u watch his defensive structure, often stands in the line waiting for the ball carrier. He either leaves gaps on his edges or causes a roll on for the opposition. Yes he tackles his opposite player well but it’s the knock on affects I don’t like.
Watch his game closer and u will see what I mean.

I agree he’s not perfect but I’d take him in any team I’d have. Each to their own I guess

I like Twal, great caracter and generally a good defender. Just needs to work on that line speed, and the team not giving it to him on the forth tackle, which I don’t blame him for. He know his limitations. The opposition knows he ain’t going to pass it, then they just hold him up and let him slowly play the ball. Killing our 5th tackle options, letting them get set and putting lots of pressure on our kickers. Again not his fault, has to be the coach, as it happens nearly ever game!

Oh great. If Stefano has an ordinary season next year this line is going to be trotted out in every thread just like the JAC/Talau/Nofa swap does.

Yeah I'm sure Simpkin would happily wait around for 3 more years in reserve grade decreasing his market value. Signing Api will mean we'll lose an absolute young gun. Not a smart move

Not sure anyone really sees it that way tbh. Simpkin can still play his role off the bench or start if Api is injured. Simpkin is definitely not physically up to starting every game and playing 80mins and Lids is so far off what this team needs atm. There's a place for both Simpkin and Api.

How old is he? I wouldn’t think he would be expecting to first choice hooker for another couple of years, at least, maybe longer?

Only just turned 20, still elligible for Flegg.

It's incredible that a guy who is STILL eligible for Flegg played numerous 80 min games for us last year, he will be a top 3 hooker in the game over his career. I'm not hyped with this Api signing because I guarantee Simpkin has one foot out the door after this. We're letting go of a 20 year old future star to sign a 30 year old pretty good one - and we aren't in a premiership window.

Inb4 everyone says Simpkin will wait his turn - you don't think the Dolphins will be offering him a chance to start and return home to Queensland? You think he'd rather stay here playing reggies?

I like your post but what is it you think simpkin has that will make him so good? I see a solid enough hooker who is not quite up to 80minutes at the moment, but I don't see a top 3 hooker and I wondered what you think he has?

I probably still prefer the Hodgson option but am very happy with Api. I preferred Hodgson because he seemed a better organiser and a bit grittier and that's what I think we need.

Really impressed and surprised that we've signed quality players for not too heavy a price.

58 tackles in 85 mins on debut aged 19 with 2 years of Flegg eligibility left. He was also the best player in KOE cup, again when he was Flegg eligible. He's a future stud and we cannot afford to lose him

If Storm can juggle Grant and B.Smith for a few years, Im sure we can fit in both our two.

A third on the other hand (Liddle), youd have to think would look elsewhere.

100%. I know B.Smith being able to play lock helped their cause somewhat however there were times when both Lids and Simpkin were on the field together this yr. Maybe Simpkin and Api can be used in a similar manner.

I think if you start talking to Api or Simpkin about playing Lock, they would be in for it.
Api will want to play SOO again and him not being able to play another position was a real handicap.
Simpkin is young enough that he could develop into anything.

Liddle, he is probably too small for lock. I don't really know where else he could fit. He would be a decent Off the Bench impact player, but I don't know if he has that flexibility to cover a lot of positions.

Hoping We sign Koroisau, No matter whom we loose.

Simpkin is a big lump of a kid for a hooker, I def feel he could be used as 13 at times and he was at times when both him and Lids were on the park together.

I repeat my earlier question to crazycat - How do you reach that decision when Simpkin is smaller than Liddle?

Atm, there is no indication it’s anyone but Brooks. It might not be popular, but it’s the truth.

Hastings, Madden are possibles. The other halfbacks coming through are too young. Brooks would be best reinventing himself as hooker or 5/8.

The 24-year-old made eight appearances for the Tigers in the NRL last season. He spent two seasons at South Sydney Rabbitohs between 2019-20, playing nine games.
