Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Would it be worth signing Bird to a 4 year contract? Make it 4 x $450K, blowing other offers out of the water, but not breaking the bank in any year. If he breaks down, which there is a chance, medically retire him. If he sees out the 4 years, both sides win.

Scotty, I think you need to have your afternoon nap, after which when your heads clear and you still want to sign Bird for four years then I'll reconsider your offer 🤣🤣👍

Four year contracts are very dangerous no matter how good the player is. Two years with a club option are the best contracts these days

If he was 24/25 maybe but he will be 28 next year.
3yrs with year 3 as a Mutual Agreement would be as far as I would go.

That's what he's getting offered at the Dragons, where he's amongst mates. We need to offer more, either cash or years, to make it happen. I am suggesting years, with low cash for a former rep back rower (I think he's repped sometime??). Most good players can get to 32 before dropping off. He may even get an extra year or two with the time he has missed.

We are not a destination club and struggle to out bid anyone for a signature.

We've signed Papalli and Api for next season. Those guys are pretty close to as good as you get in their respective positions. Not marquee players but they are good. They are better than Schuster right now.

We can get quality players.

I am not getting my hopes up about Schuster but it'd be great.

He is offered a 2yr take it or leave it deal from the Dragons
According to the media report his manager was speaking with us because he wants a 3yr deal

From nine;
The Sharks have been desperate to get Siosifa Talakai's name on a new deal before the NRL world realised just how good he is.

Sadly, the Sharks failed in their bid and now the cat is out of the bag following Talakai's devastating performance against the Sea Eagles last Thursday night that is the talk of the game.

In arguably the most impressive individual display of the year, Talakai ran for 252 metres, made eight tackle breaks, three line breaks, three try assists and scored two tries.

The nuggety back-rower turned centre comes off contract at the end of 2023, which means rival clubs can talk to him from this November.

If Bird was to come to the Tigers I certainly would be happy and hopeful he can regain the form that gave him a gun reputation from the Sharkies grand final season.
He is, pound for pound a tough cookie, someone who fits into a 'Madge Team'
The guy is still absolute quality and would make our 17 every day of the week, even his saints form has been pretty good imo. Brisbane got the raw end of the stick with him because of injuries, but Saints have got a guy that lifts his team mates and always goes in at a million miles an hour

He is a childhood friend of Hastings aswell.

He is a tough bugger & also quality.

I know he is tarnished by the Broncos days as injury prone but since his move to the Dragons he has played the majority of games over the last 18mths and with it finding some nice form.

I wouldn't be disappointed at all if he joined us. Maybe Hastings has bee in his ear.

Maybe sweeten the deal by offering him Garner as his personal Chauffeur to get him to training every day.
