Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The south-west has produced Anthony Minichielo, Jarryd Hayne, Ryan Hoffman, & James Tedesco over the past few decades ... how many superstars per decade would float your boat?

We picked the best of them. I'm certainly not knocking the area. I'm not convinced that we missed out on these players though because of a lack of care within the area.

It's not so simple with the top players. Clubs pilfer top junior players from other districts all the time.

Your the only one who has narrowed the discussion to “superstar kids”
But I’ll play along. The south-west has produced Anthony Minichielo, Jarryd Hayne, Ryan Hoffman, & James Tedesco over the past few decades ... how many superstars per decade would float your boat?

50% of this list came through the Wests Tigers system....
Again, Where's the neglect to the area and it's players?

My bet is most of the others you could possibly name also came through the Wests Tigers system.

Just before I go, if anyone is interested, what is the Tamou forecast for next year? Anyone heard anything.

Just the boys rounding up Latts a few years ago-before he determined what position he was entitled to play in instead of the coach.

Now he’s kind of like a chumpy mutant Greg Inglis but without the class.

The real cost of Latts per season, given that he’s suspended or injured for half of it, is about $1.7m

I said to Souths buddies, for the same cash, that’s the Munster plus a sub origin player or a couple of willing Panther juniors.

And for my temerity and courage as a Tiger fan speaking about Souths recruitment issues, I was harshly criticised!

Long live Adam Reynolds!

This was the game, when I was hassling Crichton and he gave it to me.

We have to smash the dogs ffs lads!

I agree getting these kids would be great. I'm not sure we are so poor at identifying them.

Who have we missed out on from that area and was it Tigers mismanagement ?

It's good to hear that Wests are dedicating resources ti the south-west though. I hope they kill it.
Yeah that’s probably fair.
Often it’s more a case of not retaining rather than not identifying.

Yes, their are some very exciting kids coming through from Magpie Country 👍

No one is knocking the area....
Old mate is convinced Wests Tigers are single handedly starving the SW Sydney talent of NRL opportunities...

I've asked for evidence of this - I'm yet to see any.

They do, and the successful clubs have an uncanny ability to hold onto their own while also managing to pilfer others. But that’s the successful clubs ...

I think it initially came across that way but he just posted that the Tigers are now putting good systems in place in the South-West.

So things probably aren't that bad.

He proceeded to tell you that there’s no problem with ident. and retent. But then asked for proof (within a time-frame only he would know) of players that we obviously wouldn’t know about, who we had of course failed to identify or retain, to back up our argument even further. Batman posts some idiotic, ignorant things.

I can see Lodge landing back with the Tigers .. !! A better footballer on than paddock, than the shit bloke he is off the field .. !!

Junior development over the past six or seven years was only a part of my criticism. A part you seem to have singularly latched onto.

My main beef is the inner city focus of who the WestsTigers actually are. To be fair, a lot of this narrative is media driven. But the othering of the Campbelltown half of our club (as opposed the Leichhardt half) in my humble opinion, contributes to the juniors in the Macarthur having no allegiance to their local NRL side.

I mean the club plays three games at Campbelltown each year, games no one gets terribly excited about (as opposed the religious fervour reserved for the eighth wonder).

It’s similar up here on the Coast. The Roosters pump money into the junior league and field a joint junior rep program but Bradman Best and the Saifitis go to Newcastle (closer to a local team geographically), and kids are coming through in the lower grades at Parra, Canterbury etc ... as well as the Roosters. They don’t play here, they don’t represent the area, and therefore it’s all a bit mercenary. Local people see through it,

My point was, how many superstar Test players do you expect a junior area to produce each decade, before you’ll show it any respect?

Fittler 1980s
Minichiello 1990s
Hayne 2000s
Tedesco 2010s

It's the part of your criticism that was absolute hogwash!!

Roosters have been putting cash into the central coast for only about 5 years.
As for the rest of the stuff you've listed here - The narrative of your argument seems fluid and to be shifting to more of the same old same old inner west outer west garble.

South Sydney don't play any games in South Sydney - Doesn't seem to bother their juniors.

I'm not showing it any disrespect at all....
I'm showing it the exact same amount of respect I show all NRL areas...

The Riverina (Is in the middle of no where) and It's produced as many superstars of the game in that same time as you've listed here...

What makes SWS any more important than that area or any others...
Nothing!!

The fact you're selling it as some sort of neglected goldmine with unlimited talent being let down by it's parent club - doesn't mean that it is...

You're making your argument from the central coast yeah?
