Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

With reports Alex Twal has now officially met with Cameron Ciraldo it would appear we are looking at granting him an early release to head ti the Bulldogs.
All I can say is we better be getting someone very valuable on return.
Lol do you think so?
It’ll be one of the “superstar kids” coming through.

It may be to create a position for one of our juniors ranked highly by our staff or for Staines. Either way, it is sad to know Twal may be gone. He will be a good influence for the Bulldogs club if he joins the club.

I wouldn't be holding out for a player swap for Twal. history shows how very easily we lie down. while the meeting between Fulton and Gould is interesting, I'd say we're likely just trying to speed up the process to get Twal off the books.

Offloading Twal coming off his best ever season, with him adding extra elements to his game and being one of our few players who could be given a pass mark for the 2023 season is baffling ?
I understand he’s supposedly been given a contract which seems too big, but I can think of many others I’d be trying to get rid of ahead of him.

Very valuable? What are you expecting in exchange for Alex Twal?
Kikau, Burton, Preston, Crichton are the only ones I’d personally take as a swap for Twal and I’m near certain the Bulldogs won’t be giving any of them up.
Max King, Addo-Carr or Kiraz would be better than nothing.
I can’t think of any others who would even help us ?

Phil Gould first year he won a premiership, Ricky Stuart first year won a premiership,
I don't know the exact figures but generally if a coach doesn't win a comp in their first 3 or 4 seasons then they never win one regardless of how long they coach eg Brian Smith or they find another job. Some major exceptions are Bennett 280 games coached before his first win in 92 and Cleary who coached over 10 years before winning one. Mal Reilly had coached 600 games inc CC in England before Knights in 97. Took Fulton 8 years. Lang coached nearly 10 years before lucking in at Penrith. Depends a lot on your cattle and luck rather than experience. Unfortunately our cattle are generally buffalo rather than prime angus. Stuart is a myth as a coach with a bang on 50 percent record.

Based on this latest info:

Dean Hawkins, could it be Souths v Tigers for a T&T contract?
Bayley Sironen, I'm sure we'd be in talks.
Moga, H Hunt or B Burns, NSW Cup contract for depth & experience?
Corey Allen, centre & backup fullback option?
Ofahiki Ogden, NSW Cup contract for prop depth & experience?

Not much in the off-contact market for top 30 deals, only possibly Sironen.

So we'll be doing our best to secure an on-contract outside back me thinks - one who can be a leader for our outside backs & only chew up 2 seasons to allow progress of our youngsters in '26. Dane Gagai, Reimis Smith & Paul Momirovoski are the ones that to me seem the most gettable.
Hawkins wants a top 30 deal but we arent going to offer one. With the round 10 rule gone for next year t&t deals will be very common I'd expect. Sironen not staying at Warriors from what I've been told but we'd be in the mix as a 3rd hooker/2nd row option.

Agree we typically happy to let them go to free up cash no player swaps

Twal will be yet another fringe NRL player wherever he goes..weve got plenty of em.Good guy that he is,theres very little upside..and we have an imbalance of forwards vs backs
We need to move him on if theres a willing buyer..and we need some quality outside backs as a priority

Think you’ll find Sticky was coaching lower grades at the Dogs or some such…
Gould was mid 80’s - so that’s not really relevant to how it works these days nor is it NRL
But I take your point…
Stuart played for the Bulldogs in 2000, then won an NRL premiership in his first year at Roosters as coach in 2002, but I get you think Gus was too long ago

Bennett and Fulton made a grand final in their first year as coach in the NSWRL, although Fulton did captain coach a bit the year before, and Smith made quite a few, but never won any, but you may be on to something about winning early on

Luke Brooks isn't Benji Marshall - I've stated than many times...

And when did Luke Brooks get passes on excuses?
(Because Benji suddenly needs one is it?)

And my biggest reasoning for Brooks was the rivers of crap he's been playing with - Benji didn't have that issue
???? How old are you ? Benji Marshall was hammered by fans in 2012 and 2006-2008 . I remember fans revolting on him big time with his no look cutout balls to the 5th row .
If social media had any kind of impact on the zeitgeist back then like it does now , Benji would have been hammered way worse than brooks .
Also Luke brooks plays for manly now … so there’s that .
