I guess we can look forward to an October filled with players resigning with their current clubs. Then a November full of players signing elsewhere for '25. I still think signing a year in advance is not right, but that's the system currently.

Fortunately for us, we have Api and Bula and the young halves locked away. Any others we need to announce in the upcoming month to stop a WTF meltdown?

Our gain is another team's loss AND vice-versa. We just hope to end up on the right side of the ledger at the end of trading.

All clubs cheat. Even back in Anthony Mundine's day he talked about $100k per year that he was paid on the side.

Players genuinely being willing to take unders to sign somewhere is very, very difficult to police. If memory serves they have rules in the collective bargaining agreement in Major League Baseball that restrict free agent players from taking deals that are significantly less than the best offer on the table. But that wouldn't work in the NRL: the money isn't really big enough to force someone to move to New Zealand or Townsville over, and anyway players can make a legitimate argument that 800k a year playing for Souths or the Roosters is a better deal than 1m playing for the Tigers or Dragons because of the side benefits of playing for a prominent, successful club. That's before you even start on the idea that players might not just be about maximising their earnings year to year and may actually want to win things even if it means giving up a few quid.

Once you acknowledge that it's potentially legitimate for a player to take what might not be the biggest offer you open a loophole you could drive the team bus through. Maybe Cleary took unders to keep playing for his dad and with his mates; maybe there's brown paper bags being handed over. Short of catching him red handed, how would anyone ever know?

The Cleary's were a package deal... IMO dads $$ were inflated yearly salary to compensate his sons so called unders $$

Talk about naive posts. The most naive posts ever on this forum were when we actually believed Nathan was going to come to our club. Almost idiotic in hindsight.

And would love to hear we have made a big name signing,
One that other clubs would love to get.

Not 30 plus ones that are fast approaching there use by.
but ones that are early 20s models, that everyone wants to get.

Lets face facts 90% of our team are not wanted by other clubs.
And I forget the last proven big name
this club has signed.
Would be great one day to look at WTF and see we have been shocked in the nicest possible way.

Yeah that’s a simple one isn’t it?
Pay dad good money, (justifiable based on his standing in the game and potential with his son), pay Nathan minimum market rate on the books (again justifiable as he wants to stay loyal and play with his mates), dad buys land or property with his extra dough and then transfers it into Nathan’s name after footy is all finished as an inheritance.
Squeaky clean.
