Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We tried to sign him a couple of years ago before he even emerged in the nrl. Some guys are just country boys. I'd target him, and put him up in a house in the south west but doubtful we could get him across the line
I guess it doesn't hurt to try, I just think we might be better off focusing on the elite juniors (Large, Makasini) and even some of Penrith's juniors who might want to follow Luai.

Not everybody values the same things… Sullivan in particular comes across as quiet and close to his family… and Naden would have two young kids to have to drag over there …plus they still have the opportunity to go over there after their high paying contracts at Wests Tigers finish should they choose ,,,

So whats your theory then as to why they rejected going over there ?
I don't think they have rejected leaving. I think there's not a chance in hell we fill our last spot in our top 30 for next season with AD if we don't know for SURE that others are definitely leaving. We have too many gaps in our roster, and AD doesn't fill them.

I wonder will Kevvie cop it like Benji did for playing Galvin, I suspect not
Yep , not winning , out of the top 8 from being top couple , playing players busted , needling players to play , giving his kid a new contract when team is going backwards , Come on BUZZZz where are you , this is front / back page news , Also and this is the big one
playing Cobbo , Busted , needing needles to play and could have mental issues or burn out , young kid only 22 , BUZZZz that’s criminal where are you , can we all imagine if he was playing for the Tigers , wow

If we kept Stef and added Royce Hunt as an impact player, out forward pack would finally be starting to look dangerous.
I would be very surprised if we are not trying to sign him.
As for Mata’utia, does he still run the ball hard ? I only really watch highlights of Super League games, so have not watched him closely, but I’m surprised he doesn’t score more tries than he does in a star studded side such as St Helens if he is genuinely ripping and tearing. It also concerns me that I recall a distinct change in his kamikaze style of ball running in the period before he departed for Super League which was following a few bad concussions.
We desperately need to get away from grinding type of players on our edge, we are already seeing what a difference it makes to have someone who can bust tackles and make line breaks like Sam Fainu.

He always came across as a fierce no nonsense competitor to me, unless he's said or done something I'm not aware of
Only rumour and innuendo.
- demanding his position.
- shopping himself at well overs before resigning for only 1 year (which imo shows intention to again shop himself)
Then how he plays.
- unwilling to put his body on the line.
- selfish with ball in hand.
Nothing he done shows a team first mentality or his apparent love of the club but I accept the above is hardly conclusive evidence.

I don't know why we try to compare ourselves with successful clubs. We are a basket case and need to accept the criticism that come with it. I don't like either, but we need to be realistic and hope that this will turn with the new management and pain the club has/is going through.

I do notice that Sydney based media tend to focus more on the Sydney based clubs. How often do you hear anything about the Titans or Dolphins from the Sydney press? QLD media will report more on their own.

So Zerotackle has rehashed the DT article from a few days back.
He has a contract with us, so no club nor his manager should be discussing anything at this point. His path is not blocked in any way, shape or form. All those Rugby highlights are of him at inside centre. There is no doubt he has blinding speed and his early first grade career should be in the outside backs, where we are clearly lacking. Having said that, he has had his injury issues this year and needs to get his body ready to play against men before worrying about his path to the NRL being blocked.
It's always the same test for these kids - when they start playing seasoned men who can tackle and put them on their arse, can the kid still play? O Large has made a name for himself trampling kids his own age because he's a big kid who is very quick.

Of course it's possible to transition that athleticism to regular first grader, e.g. Joe Suaalii, but you have to be so careful calling it too early.

Cobbo?

Don't know why we're discussing him here....
Pretty sure I heard a few days ago somewhere in the media,
His heads all over the shop and he's thinking about giving the game away.

Fair boundary to cross
- That's without even considering we're the shattest club, South of the QLD Border...
Somebody tossed his name up, he’s been mailing it in the last month. Mentally or physically not right at the moment.

Large has never really stood out by trampling kids, I don't think he is that big for his age, not in the Makasini mould. Speed, yes, that's clearly evident in his highlights, but that is the one trait that does translate really well from juniors to open age.

Two poor games for the Broncos after playing a quality 70+ minutes off the bench in Origin does not equate with "mailing it in"...

I know all about currency bias - but this short-term memory take would make a goldfish blush!!

Cobbo is still an immature kid who needs to build his fitness - consistency and resilience...

He got dropped from Origin last year too - and had a welfare break at the Broncos in 2022...

He ain't going anywhere!

He’s a star without question.

I have just been watching him closely of late and seeing things in his game that are not elite. The excuses I’m hearing this week come as no surprise to me. Off the ball he’s been loafing around looking gassed and frankly uninterested.

He played a good origin game for sure but he’s been off in club land.

But he has a pattern of the same inconsistency and inability to sustain form/mental effort for the past 3 years.

Part of his problem is that he was selected for Australia in 2023 on potential (combined with Qld bias - and Mal using the Australian team to reward/develop Qld's Origin stocks).

He is immature and plays off talent rather than dedication - but the one thing for certain is that he won't be leaving Queensland because his family support network are all there,
