They came up together, they progressed through the pathways together, they showed the world what they could do…together.
We have a group who potentially could replicate them at some level.
How their development is managed will dictate how successful they are.
So far, I’m not impressed with how we’ve approached this.

I thought Tim was originally hired to oversee this program but he nabbed the coaches job and as we can see, with a few exceptions, we remain a hap hazard recruitment club.

Beyond that, we simply don’t have the junior roster and the right staff to recreate a Penrith model.

The reliance on it, it’s another crux at the moment.

Spoonbowl showed up our lack of depth and poor preparation.

It wasnt just a loss, it was a flogging.

FYI: Daddy [Stephen Isdale] coached his son, halfback Alex, in HM last year. The son appears to be blocked to progress short term.
Stephen Isdale to coach HM again, but now has another son Iszak Isdale, who is a fullback/centre [mostly-I think], Ashton Large, and halfback Curtis Lakeman----whose dad, Nathan Lakeman, is now coaching Wests SG Ball. Keeping it in the family to coach beyond the paddock.

The thing is we still need decent halves in a grades. Isdales lath at the Sharks is totally blocked, they have quality on every grade. As do the dogs. Conti has no pathway there. Yet for us we had no recognised halves in Flegg or Cup. Just fill in types.
Conti would be starting halfback in Cup next year most likely, Isdale may have got a look in Flegg. The likes of Matai are inconsistent and don't look like stepping up, unless we've signed players for these positions they're currently wide open.
Will be interesting to see where Haywood ends up playing too given NRL halves are stacked, but he's probably prefer halves to hooker which is where we could maybe use him more.

Considering the grand final was played just last night and today is a public holiday, I think it might be wise to wait just a little bit longer for any news on the signing front 😂

People talk as if teams like the Panthers have some space aged training techniques peopled by humans that relentlessly eat raw meat before hitting the weights for 48 hours straight while drilled by SAS Commandos, learning to fight for every win like John Wick while having philosophical teachings by Yoda playing on the Iphone at night.

Unless the Tigers turn up in thongs, drinking Pasito & scoffing down a Dagwood Dog, before watching videos of Porkies & playing table tennis for a day- I'm going to assume training techniques don't vary THAT much between the good & bad clubs.

Players buying into training though- that's where I think clubs differ. Someone mentioned picking Luai's brain on the importance of friendships developed throughout the club. I'm very willing to believe that this is the Panthers super power. They are not significantly more talented than everyone else. But they ALL turn up, every week, for the guys next to them.

If that is what building a successful club requires- I'd say the Tigers might be doing the right things, with such a strong influx of guys that have played together coming through at the same time. Build the club on mentality, not skills. At this level- they can all play.

I think Twaly is one who would buy into a better culture but certainly get the criticism, he doesn’t bring much impact to the table.

A guy like Eisenhuth or Lindsay Smith at Penrith are similar.

You can’t have Seyfarth and Twal in an NRL side in my opinion. One or the other only.

I think in terms of attitude and influence, JL is their biggest loss to date

If I was Ivan, I would have kept him at Penrith, in the order of Nate, Yeo and JL.

But he wants Dylan and Brian.

I guess he’s won four in a row, so I cant really fault Ivan.

It will be interesting to see how they go next year without JL. I think they will miss him more than they realise.

They are best friends who have grown up together, their families and kids are best friends and they are driven by a genuine bond on the field that no other club has. Yeah true. I got mistaken as I thought in the team line up he had St Mary’s Saints then in the ceremony at the end was listed as Berala Bears.
In that case there is no link.

That’s the sport in general. Nobody is forcing you to put your body in harms way. It’s the teams who have made a commitment to each other and live by it that will ultimately be the best. Having weapon forwards like Martin & Yeo is also helpful.

Cleary was playing busted last night. His first half was very poor by his normal standards. He was everywhere in the second half. Amazing effort.

Beside the obvious talent throughout their club the commitment and intensity to training is a very big key to why Penrith is a success.
