Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Let’s all be honest

This sucks so hard

It’s a sh’t position for the club

They’ll be speculation every year about whether luai stays or leaves

Is it worth it by having him instead of him going to the bulldogs - probably

That’s all there is to it
Maybe for you. I think its pretty good. In fact. Keep us on our toes. This ain't a retirement village afterall.

Star player’s agent swap could have impact on Tigers’ future

By Michael Chammas
December 6, 2024 — 3.45pm

The agent whose players’ moves helped dismantle the Wests Tigers’ roster seven years ago is on the verge of adding Jahream Bula to his list of clients alongside Lachlan Galvin.

A day after this masthead’s revelation that incoming superstar recruit Jarome Luai has player options in the final three years of his five-year contract, the Tigers are now bracing for one of their brightest young talents to join the Isaac Moses stable.

Moses and the Wests Tigers don’t see eye-to-eye and tension is already high due to a standoff involving another Moses client, John Bateman. Complicating matters further is the situation with Galvin, following multiple requests from his agent Moses for a release during the past 12 months.

The young fullback has been on the lookout for a new agent after his former manager, Liam Ayoub, recently accepted a role with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the club’s recruitment department.

As reported by this masthead in October last year, Bula has a mutual option in his contract for the 2027 season. If the Tigers decide to exercise the option, he will play the 2027 season on a salary of $900,000. If the Tigers decide against retaining Bula at that price, Bula has the opportunity of taking up a player option at $800,000.

Moses, however, will not earn any income from a contract negotiated by another agent and would only earn a percentage of Bula’s pay if he were to negotiate a new contract with the Tigers or a rival club. That conversation will have to occur some time in 2026, which happens to be both Luai and Galvin’s final year on contract.

The Tigers have met with Galvin’s family and are preparing to sit down in the new year to discuss the possibility of a long-term extension. Moses’ involvement is a hurdle the Tigers will have to overcome.

Moses’ most significant previous involvement with the Tigers was overseeing negotiations for the club’s “big four” stars in 2017, when James Tedesco departed for the Sydney Roosters, Aaron Woods linking with the Bulldogs and Mitchell Moses agitated for an early release to join Parramatta. Luke Brooks was the only member of the quartet to remain at the Tigers.

Bateman is unwanted at Concord following a heated argument with coach Benji Marshall over what the Englishman believed was improper treatment following a loss to South Sydney last season.

Bateman took exception to a post-match dressing down from Marshall and confronted the coach about it at training in the ensuing days.

The spat culminated in Bateman departing the club for a stint in the Super League with Warrington for the remainder of the 2024 season, on the condition the Tigers committed to uphold the 2025 and 2026 seasons of his contract.

The Tigers have offered to pay up to $350,000 of his $650,000-a-season contract for Bateman to play elsewhere.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are deep in negotiations to lure him to the club in Wayne Bennett’s first year back after a stint at the Dolphins.

He has also previously overseen the contracts of the likes Tommy Talau, Adam Blair, Matt Lodge and David Klemmer at the club.

Moses also represents young Tigers player Brandon Tumeth, who recently had an official warning revoked over preseason fitness standards.

Wests Tigers fullback Jahream Bula’s odd contract clause that could see him released early

David Riccio December 6, 2024 - 1:56PM

Wests Tigers rising star Jahream Bula could get out of his contract 12 months early due to an unorthodox clause that could also work in the club’s favour.

In yet another significant contract development at the Wests Tigers, Bula could be on the move at the end of 2026, despite the club heralding his re-signing through until the end of 2027.

Bula, who has played 39 games at fullback since making his NRL debut and being named the club’s best player in 2023, has a mutual option written into his contract at the Wests Tigers for 2027.

The mutual option involves the club being able to re-sign Bula in 2027 for the figure of no less than $900,000.

Under the terms, Bula is unable to reject the offer if the club wishes to keep him at the club for 2027.

The $900,000 offer will remain on the table until mid-May, 2026.

If the Wests Tigers believe Bula isn’t worth $900,000, the club has the power to provide the 22-year-old with the chance to test the open market for 2027.

This is where a rival club could blow the Wests Tigers out of the water.

However, if there is little appetite for Bula on the open market at that time, the option states that he can stay at the Wests Tigers for 2027, however at the reduced rate of around $800,000.

The Bula deal was orchestrated by both the previous club management of former CEO Justin Pascoe and the strike fullback’s former management team of Ultra Management.

Bula has recently linked with Cove Agency, led by Isaac Moses.

The Bula revelation pours a further spotlight on their entire spine with Lachlan Galvin (off-contract 2026), Api Koroisau (2026), Luai (2029, but with options to get out of 2026) and Bula, all potentially off-contract within the next two seasons.

The Tigers have made no secret of their desire to re-sign Galvin, the outstanding rookie halfback.

Chammas again.

I was in a corporate box with him at a Sydney FC game last year. The guy is a genuine dweeb of a human. He rocked up wearing his lame hat. Only had time for big hitters noting there was like only 10 of us. A grade knob.

What are you talking about? Do you not see the evolution of the elite halves lately?
DCE was captain of his Origin side at 35 this year. He is going around again next year at 36.
Cody Walker was a unanimous MOM in SOO game 3 in 2023 at 33. He is going around again next year at 35.
Ben Hunt played SOO and made the Kangaroos this year at 34. He is going around again next year at 35.
Adam Reynolds led his team to a GF at 33. He is going around again next year at 35.
Kieran Foran is going around again next year at 35.
Cooper Cronk was 35 when he retired a GF victor.
Chad Townsend is going around again next year at 34.

Halves these days can keep going well into their 30's and compete. Are you really trying to tell people that at 30 Luai will be washed up? He'll still be playing Origin and Test footy at that age.

Geez you love a rant and crap on alot.

No I didn’t say that. There was no comment about if he could perform in his 30s, the comment was re salary and as to if a top club would pay $1.2m or come close to that for him at 30+.

He has been performing for years, is a rep player and was on the market with no high profile club put in a competitive offer in this time round - do you really think in 12-18mths time that will change?

Regarding Souths- I highly doubt they are looking to move their star players on. Arrow will play prop I imagine. Duncan possibly as well. Murray & Koloamatangi are locked in- probably second row & lock. Add Bateman.

Euan Aitken probably gets a bench spot. Moale. Tatola.

I'd say Liam Le Blanc & Jacob Host could be the likely guys to miss out.

That said- if Bateman goes, Sione Fainu is likely to get that spot.

Maybe it's a T&T player we are likely to target? There's always Liam Knight...
You had to go there....

This podcast from February with Pascoe starkly demonstrates just how far out of his depth he was in any rugby league related management role...

Highlights include nominating Ezra Mam and Brandon Smith as his stand-out player predictions for 2024...

Feel free to compare this with any interview Richardson has done to see the stark difference in professionalism and general knowledge of the game!

Reminds me of Erin Molan trying to claim she was a long-time Raiders supporter before admitting she had never watched league until she got the Nine job!

This has to be coming from agents , and Pascoe / the fedora . My guess is the fedora is knee deep in this info getting out .
Everyone predicted that when the fedora got named chairman that he would abuse his power , and wouldn’t walk quietly .
Sometimes in life when people live down to those expectations it’s hard not to wish your instincts were wrong about a guy .
We all knew it as well .
Anyways . What’s chammas hardon for our club? He just drums up articles where there’s nothing to see here . Bula isn’t even off contract for 3 years potentially ..

Maybe for you. I think its pretty good. In fact. Keep us on our toes. This ain't a retirement village afterall.
Lol.

If you were interested in winning premierships you would understand that it would be more preferable for luai not to have any options in his contract.

But I’m glad you prefer instability and a 4 time premiership winning origin player the ability to walk away in 2 yrs instead of 5.

Sometimes instability is preferred over stability in the bottom of the barrel.
