Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If you can't swim you have to be bonkers to go rock fishing.
I know mate its crazy some people from landlocked countries that don't know how to swim and have no knowledge of the sea should stay away until they do, it's hard to believe but I can remember many media reports in the past about it, I get the ocean is fascinating thing that draws you to it but please think before you leap.

How does the NRL allow some players to have 1 game wiped off their suspension by missing out on the NRL AllStars Game .. but no other players .. how do they get to allow some players but not others .. ??

Ezra Mam's return to the NRL has been delayed after the league ruled he won't be able to count the All-Stars game as part of his nine-match suspension for a drug driving offence.

The decision effectively extends Mam's ban to ten games, meaning he will not be eligible to play until at least Round 10 of the 2025 season, per The Courier-Mail.

This contrasts with previous cases involving Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr, who were both allowed to use the All Stars fixture to reduce their suspensions.

Mitchell's one-game ban for an off-field incident was reduced after a successful application, enabling him to play in South Sydney's season opener.

Similarly, Addo-Carr's four-game suspension for a positive cocaine test was shortened after the All Stars game was counted toward his ban.

Mam, who tested positive for cocaine following a car crash in Brisbane in October 2023, was fined $850 in court as well as additional fines totalling $120,000 from the NRL and the Broncos.

Despite qualifying for the Indigenous All Stars team due to his heritage, Mam has never played in the fixture before.

That’s my issue. Some seem to think it’s automatic.
Exactly, it’s far from automatic. I’ll go as far as to say I’ve yet to see an elite former player turn into a great coach. Some of the best coaches like Bellamy, Gould, Bennett and Gibson were decent players, but not elite by any stretch. Whereas you have the elite players like Fittler, Daley and Stuart who are average at best as coaches.

I would’ve like to see how Sterling handled the coaching role, but he was smart enough to stay away from it.

I believe the Greg Inglis inclusion at the club enhances our chances of retaining Bula - and I’m sure that is front of mind .. he was originally brought in to mentor Bula.
GI is also a mate of Sam Burgess and has a strong rapport with Richo. A tad off topic, but whilst talking about old Rabbitohs, tough former Kangaroo second rower Gary Stevens passed away yesterday. Whilst not a SS fan, I recall the great tackling style of Stevens. He was also a gentleman off the field.

Don't wish to rain on your parade, but Rugby League Immortals Clive Churchill, Norm Provan, and Bob Fulton collectively won 13 premierships between them as Coaches.

Wait

Greg Ingles. The NRL player who played and won so many SOO for Queensland and several times for the Australian team. Who lived the Melbourne Storm culture. ...

I don't know if this guy can coach, but Far out the guy is dripping with elite NRL experience. Unlike say Hodgson or Morris, who both are NRL players with some merit. Ingles is at the top of the NRL elite. Easily in the top 5 of the best NRL players of the last 2 decades.

You can't get that kind of experience.

Sure we can pull another NRL coach of the ranks, someone like Siebold who played 2ish seasons and sounds good in an interview.... But you can't easily get top player experience and you sure as hell can't get Immortal in waiting NRL experience.

Bring Ingles in, try him out. If he can coach some of what he played on the field, like Far out we would be going to the finals.

(and if he can't meh. We would have hired some assistant looser anyway).
Yep GI I feel will be a great addition to the ladies team and also our men’s nrl team and the juniors , he is a legend of the game and a winner , hope it rubs off on the players from all teams

1 of our biggest issues in NRLW is our roster. Just as star power has helped Benji attract players to our men’s team GI will have the same effect to the NRLW side.
Hope you are right and I feel you are , our ladies team last season looked lost , and half were not up to the standard they were a level below , we have lost about 4 I know off , but have not heard about 1 single signing , we needed to upgrade about 6 players with NRLW experience , Kimmorly I also don’t think he is up to it , hence GI coming in , if we are on the bottom by mid season I think Brett will get the tap and GI will be the new ladies coach , just saying , not heard anything

It's just made up BS as they go along

Unfair also players that don't qualify for this game can't use it to cut out suspension but some can
Just another uneven playing field

Change the rules every time. Unknown players get the full force while players like Latrell get a feather duster approach.

I'm actually annoyed with South Sydney continually fighting for Latrell to get the ban reneged. Cop it on the chin and serve the one game. That lack of accountability is why Demetriou got sacked.
