Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

so you don’t want to keep Galvin ,,,because he is too expensive ? Because the post you quoted was a discussion about that…
I think it's a fair argument to say with money already invested in Laui 1.2m, Bula 900k, Api, TDS and then having Sullivan back next to yr and Fainu on the books at 550k each that paying Galvin $1m would leave us too short of money across the rest of the park. Although we re-sign Galvin then we would have to let Fainu go I'd guess and find someone else to take part of Sullivan's money at least.

Still leave you thin on depth.

It was widely reported that Bula was re-signed for 660k which is about fair for where he is at this stage of his career.
He may be worth more by the end of this season, but that remains to be seen.

Yea, and Nah.

Look Luai is the real deal. We saw in Origin what he can do and what he brings. He isn't consistent, but I would rate him only 2nd to Munster as a gun 5/8 (probably forgetting someone).

That said, Luai has only been a stand-in halfback, done well at that. Galvin sadly has had plenty of spoontime with the tigers.
Parra can offer Moses.
Roosters can get Luke keary to mentor or that wondercoach Jason Taylor.. *sic*
Manly has DCE and I think the way DCE acts and trains would click with Galvin.
...

The opportunities are there.

I also think, were talking the 1m gun price.... Do we want Galvin? Do we want him that bad? Would Ezra Mam be wanted at Brisbane? Now that's a combo Luai + Mam.

A halfback is worth 1million. Clearly we have been missing that leader and team co-ordinator and perhaps gotten Luai at a cheap price. Is a 5/8 really worth 1m or more?
That's the thing. Not hating on Galvin. Good player. Deserves an upgrade and all, but a million bucks buys you a lot of 5/8.

An upgrade to 500k for the last 2 years [until end 2026] of the current contract and a million after that is reasonable.

2027 there's a bigger cap, he would have 70+ NRL games under his belt and matured more...a million is not ridiculous in that context.

But we won't be paying Galvin $1mil next year. Even an upgrade to $600k next year and $750k the following is probably closer to a million additional to what he has signed on for

Tallyn Da Silva: ā€œI don’t think I’m ready to play an 80-minute game just yet, I have so much to learn about the game defensively. As long as I have to wait, I’m happy right now to do it, especially if it’s behind Api.ā€

I love this kid! At the fan day in December (?) my grandkid was talking to TDS, and he looked down the fence and said, "Oh! Api's coming! Sorry, but he's my favourite!" TDS laughed and said, "Oh, mine too! He's the best!" We had a bit of a chat and TDS was saying how much he is learning from Api, how professional he is.

What a great response - he's smart.

Refreshing to hear from a talented young person.

He speaks very well and appears to have a great attitude.
Definitely the type of player we need to kick on and fulfil his potential while continuing to play for Wests Tigers.

Hookers don’t get anywhere near peak level until their late 20s . Look at Robson . Dwindled at St George for years , everyone said he was in the last chance saloon and would struggle with Granville in front of him . Just plugged away , best out Granville , plugged away and got himself a NSW jersey in a winning side . Now he’s on 900k next year at the roosters .
Even Jacob Liddle has been getting the ā€œ he’s actually pretty goodā€ narrative , and is starting to get some recognition . Same for Egan at the Wahs .
I think when Cam smith , Robbie and Ennis came into the league (less so Ennis) who had to plug away between St George , Souths , the dogs and finally the sharks , I think it created a false economy with the ages that kids ā€œshouldā€ have made it , along with the Toyota/holden cup .
I’m glad with how Harry was held back till his 20s then loaned to us at 21/22 , it’s made people realise to be patient .
Even TDS , who was widely touted as the next NSW hooker , is now having guys like Reilly smith and Owen Pattie being talked about as better ! They’re not better , they’re just the flavour of the month with fickle media and pundits .
