Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You realise Richardson played a big role in this?
There’s no reason this couldn’t wait until November, when we hopefully would have had more data to use in our negotiations. Talking after we played finals would have changed perceptions a bit.
Probably wouldn’t have made a difference, but it may have.
They've tried to pull him out of the club multiple times for multiple "reasons".

Something more is at play here and if he is in fact going to Parramatta, it won't be because our offer was not big enough, because it was more than fair.

Richo knew that. He made him an offer he couldn't refuse and he refused it. In fact, he never even looked at it.

There were always plans to leave.

The eye test tells you we’re losing the battle at the ruck. Watch Melbourne next time they play and watch what they do when the attacking player is getting to his feet. They take away about 6 inches of his space and make subtle contact with his upper body. It probably equates to about half a second. When they get up to play the ball themselves they walk forward or to the side of the marker.

It’s subtle but they get away with it.
If we do that - instant penalty for crowding, not square or some rule interpretation previously unheard of, that isn't in the book but Anusely just happens to conveniently pull out of his anus.

Understand your point regarding data. But that could be worse data. and by all reports camp Galvin said don't waste your time with another offer we are leaving. That's pretty conclusive. If tigers wait till November and he leaves the headlines are worse imo. This way the club got in front of those headlines

With all due respect to James Graham, if brains were dynamite he couldn’t blow his nose. I mean he was a grub as a player and now he trying to maintain some relevance in the game. He got 12 weeks for biting. Threatened referees when decisions didn’t go his way and used to cover his legs in Vaseline so players who tried to tackle him low were likely going be blinded.
How ironic that he now has a podcast and he's still trying to chew people's ears off. 🤣

I still think this whole thing is about Latu Fainu . If you read the tea leaves about the timeline , His first request for release was when we signed the Fainus .
And when you look at Fainu , and the way he plays he’s better than Galvin at being a half . He just is !
Chuck in their history ie. that Fainu was the one who kept him out at the eels im almost certain before he went to manly , Fainu was the one who kept him out of rep jerseys in age groups in the 6 jersey , and now Fainu has come to the nrl team , and whilst Galvin had the inside line , with all the noise in the playing group that Fainu is a better fit , I’m almost certain when they say he won’t develop here , I think they really mean Latu is going to take my place in the halves and I’ll be a lock .
It’s the only thing that actually makes the development angle make sense . And why his dad and manager are pushing this .
Because yes Benji has Lachies back , but eventually Latu will grab that 6 jersey , and everyone who actually knows the game knows that’s eventually going to happen . It’s why the club under sheens and now Benji has him forecast as a lock eventually . I guess Galvin doesn’t want that . And really … that’s fair enough . You don’t need to torpedo the club though to get it .
I reckon you are onto something here.
Not necessarily that Latu was any certainty to take Galvin’s halves spot as we would not be willing to pay someone 1 million dollars per season to change his position, but I sense I bit of jealousy and/or angst about the reputation that Latu has amongst the core playing group.
Yes they went to school together, but I get a strong feeling they don’t really like each other, competing for the same position often does that.
Even if there is any substance to this, Lachie knew he had the backing of Wests Tigers and Benji who had put him on a pedestal and willing to make him the centrepiece of the team, hence the disappointment and angst when someone made to feel so important at age 19 states he will develop as a player better elsewhere.

Getting the extention done now takes the huge and ongoing distraction of the table. It was totally legitimate to want to get it done. It's totally normal to negotiate before a player goes on the open market.

Additionally getting it done allow a decision on how to develop Latu - who to invest in.
Not to mention upgrading the next year and a bit of his current contract was the only unique benefit we had over other clubs. Agree it was better to go early rather than wait. The distraction would have been there either way.

The fact that Moses said don’t even bother putting an offer means he was always going… whether it was now or in 6 months the answer was always going to be the same. I’m glad the club got clarity early & is now in a position to plan effectively moving forward.
Yep. Waiting then getting screwed over was the Tigers of old. It was a fair, perhaps even oversized offer. Maybe Richo actually wanted this outcome. Next steps are pivotal.

Several reasons they had to put an offer to him now.
1. They could still upgrade him this year. So a further financial incentive if he had resigned.
2. You wait til the end of the season the player is definitely going to the market as November 1 would be only a month away.
3. There has been media speculation over his contract since round 1. You do not want this circus to happen on the eve of the semis if we are in a position to make it.
4. The contract being 1mil, has a huge effect on recruitment and retention.
Imagine the inner emotion of Richo! The hours/days/weeks he & staff spent to re-work our cap to (priority 1) finalise an offer to extend Galvin. All when the conclusion was already known by Galvin’s camp.

It will be very interesting to see who we now target with the money that was set aside for Galvin ?
Fair to say it will not be any Isaac Moses clients.

It’s in the clubs best interest to commence discussions with a player before they go on the open market, I also think they knew that he was only a slim chance of staying if that, by making a solid offer before hand it shows we are interested but doesn’t allow us to be used as leverage. What I don’t think the club anticipated is the coaching grievances and the leak to the media and the subsequent player reaction to Galvin.

I also think this whole thing has galvanised (pardon the pun) the players and may actually contribute to our success.

Fancy coming to a contract meeting and saying ‘don’t bother with your offer, we ain’t gonna stay regardless’. No respect, then bringing out a list of 8 grevenses. Seriously WTF? If you’re not interested in staying, why would we listen to your bullshit??
I was listening to sen yesterday and that knob from Campbelltown Jimmy was saying that it was because the tigers undervalued him and therefore disrespected him with the low snout of money for his output. I wrote to Jimmy explaining that when ever has a club upgraded a wage of anyone without them extending their contract. Doesn’t happen unless they already have s long contract. But the cocks lover couldn’t understand what I was saying!!

The more I reflect on this back to when he first supposedly asked for a release, I now think Galvin was always planning to leave after this contract. And nothing was changing his mind.

He has always seen the Wests Tigers & Benji as coach through a certain lens drilled into him by his close advisors going back to ‘23. His father probably the same.

His current contract was likely pitched to him by Moses as a stepping stone and opportunity to put himself in the shop window getting NRL minutes he would unlikely get anywhere else as an 18/19yo.

It all goes to plan for Moses including constant media stories on how good he is. Imagine the egos when Gus started putting out there ‘best teenage footballer’ ‘will become richest player ever by end of his career’.

Now I partly think conscience got the better of him/family when it became known that Richo was working on an upgrade/extend offer. It was like “shit we have tell them I am not staying”. Hence Isaac’s plan to create the dossier to continue the coaching narrative reasoning.

So I think ultimately the reason for Galvin leaving is nothing more than a story in the Galvin’s family minds about the club & Benji and how much better it would be elsewhere that has just grown & grown and reinforced by influential people to them. This became their truth!

You could well be right. As the great George Costanza once said: " It's not a lie, if you believe it."

I’m certain a verbal agreement has been done with the Eels via our slimy friend Mitchell.
If this is correct, Galvin willl be on a hiding to nothing, on a big money contract trying to help a club struggling worse than us to regain success and will have to do it with a good quality backline when at full strength, but with a forward pack that is bottom 4 with virtually nobody on the market to help them get much stronger anytime soon.
