Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sloan on a low end Top 30, or development deal/KOE deal- perfect player to have in KOE.

There is talent there. Just can't invest great dollars into it.

He is supposedly on $500k next season .., so I think you can bin the development idea… that money is too rich for my blood although maybe you could consider it depending on how much the Drags are putting in…

I like him as a FB … hate him as a winger … so I hope he would be satisfied playing KOE behind Bula … not a great way to get his next contract though

Would love to have him here filling in the next month though at FB

I’d be buying Sloan and Junior Tupou for around $250k a season each.

They both have raw athleticism.

Both are head of the likes of Staines, Naden, Feledy etc
Only problem is they are both on contracts next year for good money (and Tupou still has 3 years to run on his). You can’t renegotiate for less time or money. Only way you save is if their existing club offers to pay a % but in Tupou’s case you have to take on the 3 years.

Not sure what Sloan really offers. He is a back up fullback/winger and we already have that in Luke Laulilii. Luke would be infront of him in the pecking order so why would Sloan come to WT to be a 3rd string fullback/winger? He's also on 500k at the dragons. He's not going to take that much of a paycut

I would rather retain Staines at that price.

100%.

Made up voice you think?
No, it happens. I’ve been ribbed about my voice being a bit gravely. From drinking moonshine and rums, and a few other stupid things but I reckon Seib and Lockyear, who I called throat boy when he first hit tv, have been hit in the throat while playing football. It’s painful too, one of the points to attack when I’ve taught self defence, is throat.

Staines is a great depth option can at a stretch play all backline positions but ideally wing or FB. He will cheapish more upside than Naden in regards to consistency, discipline & effort. I would also be signing Tui'itupou & Mapalangi at a minimum development deals for next year.

NRL - Bula, Turuva, Toa, May & Skelton

Depth - Mason - L Luailli, Staines, Tui'itupou & Makasini.

Mapalangi as NSW Cup 5/8.

If we do get rid of Sullivan I would suggest another depth halves signing.

Forwards it's pretty obvious 2 middles straight away. A lock & front row depth.

This restricted minutes sounds like a lot of BS to me.
When you get the ball you run at full pace if there's a gap, right? Or make a try saving tackle.
That can be after 5 min. or 70 min. Does that mean Benji says just run at 1/2 pace for 30min. then we rest you. I just don't understand the restricted minutes claim? Someone please explain how it works?
You'll have to ask someone that is a hell of a lot smarter than me.

Benji might be a good starting point, and while you are there ask about bench management and how that works as well. 🤣

Spot on, this is exactly the line up I would run with and depth. That is the ideal 1-5 NRL and NSW Cup/depth set up. I would also add that guys like Tino Tavana and Max Taotua will also come into contention if they keep developing at their current rate. I dont think we need to sign any more externals in the 1-5 positions.

In terms of a back up half, I would look at someone like Sean O'Sullivan, Jonah Glover or Te Maire Martin.

A proper NRL quality lock is the main priority and hopefully someone becomes available.

A prop I would be looking at would be Trey Mooney (who cant get a game at Canberra) to provide competition to Twal and Seyfarth for that last bench spot. I would also look to bring in Harrison Hassett to provide depth in the second row as i don't believe we can afford to play Seyfarth there.

Re-sign:
Staines
Doueihi (14 role or halves depth for the right price)
Mapalangi
Tui'tupou (Cup deal)

Sign:
Mooney
O'Sullivan/Glover/Martin
Hassett
Lock (Hopefully someone becomes available)

Release:
Naden
Tumeth
Faataape
Matamua
Feledy

Under more fatigue, created by the length of time muscles are used, there is a greater risk of straining/tearing them.

They are limiting Latu’s minutes to prevent his muscles (hamstring) fatiguing to the point where it makes it/them susceptible to re-tearing.
Correct. The two most vulnerable times for muscle tears are when they are yet to be warmed up and when they are under fatigue. Good example is Bulla’s injury. The most likely times for this to occur were either in the pre game warm up or the 80th minute, in this case the latter. Chances are, that exact same move in the 50th minute would have caused no harm at all. That’s why Latu is having minutes managed. He’s a player that relies on explosive movement and when you do that under extreme fatigue you are more likely to injure the muscle / soft tissue.

I like it.

Mooney I think only just re-signed but would be ideal.

Glover would be a chance but definitely not opposed to Martin, ex-tiger would probably have a relationship with Benji & Hasset would be great to but not opposed to getting Garner back either.

Garner would be a good alternative and i'm sure more will come available. Mooney re-signed but there has been some chatter that he is unsettled by his lack of game time. Like Richo says, we just need to be patient and see what falls from the tree.

Every week players who are under contract become available. This time last year, not a single person thought that Terrell May would be playing at the Tigers in 2025. Current and former rep players like Val Holmes, Gutho, Fonua-Blake, Daniel Saifiti, I. Papalii, Ben Hunt, Lomax etc. all became available last season at some point despite being under contract.

Unless of cause your name is GUS.
