Penrith put on a clinic in how to soak up the first 3 tackles within our 20 by pinning us in the corners on every set and backed it up with line speed in defence. They didn't give us anything all game. As Benji said, they strangled us.

The defensive line speed between both teams really stood out for me. Penrith were rushing up cutting our time with the ball in hhandy getting straight in our faces. We on the other hand were so passive we just stayed back waiting for the Panthers players to run at us before we engaged them.

4 wins from 7 ,and two of our loses were by 2 pts. AND we were playing way better as a team with sting in our tails
 
gregim ,i only guessed those numbers ,shoot me down if you will , but i wont depart from the comment we where playing like a team in the early(7) rounds
 
What has happened to the money that we would have been paying if we would of kept Galvin and TDS,
I guess about $1 & a half mil,
KPP is ABOUT $600.000
Yet it looks as though we are out of cash and can't purchase anyone worthwhile.
Our talent scouts seem to only be interested in players on minimum wages or some Train & Trial kids.

He was ok, nothing special. Scored a try by catching and planting the ball with the line open. Took some carries without bending the line. Did his share of tackling. But he's not the guy to turn our underwhelming forward pack around.

We'll still have the 2025 recruits, Hunt and Bird. Hunt was dropped early season and looks like not being called back up. Bird has remained in first grade without impressing. And we'll still have Twal, Seyfarth, Sukkar and Murray, none of whom stand out, while Pole's performances fluctuate.

Jock's return puzzles me. Is he coming to replace Sullivan, who will still be under our salary cap for 2 years whether he returns or not? Or as plan B should Luai activate his escape clause, or if Latu doesn't measure up?

I'm worried that 2025's small improvements will stagnate.

jock madden is just reserve grade depth , they’ll be more active in the player market but there just isn’t much out there atm
would expect off season signings

After 7 rounds those numbers would seem close enough to right (can't be bothered checking to confirm).
I personally though don't think we were playing any more or less as a team then than now, but to each their own.

A couple of those wins (and narrow losses) in my opinion were luck of the draw coming up against other teams in the spoon race and at a low point for them. Many of the sides deficiencies commented on then, even in victory, are exactly the same ones being commented on now.

Not trying to change your opinion mate, simply stating mine.

Fair point. But he also has landed some good players. Since Richo has come in I think the super dud impulse signings have mostly stopped too. Not sure I’d blame Benji for the Matamua, Feledy, Tumeth signings which I would argue are our worst top 30 deals.

But yes, Benjis hands aren’t clean either.

No you are not the only one unimpressed. Most the forum seem unimpressed.
I don't think the nothing available excuse that some offer up really flies given the club should have known in February that the side needed forwards, though it is only more recently that available cap space would have been known.
I think it isn't as simple as blaming Benji, Richo or anyone else for not getting anyone over the line. I simply think it is just a massive challenge to convince outside talent to come here.

all good .Totally off track , Q for google ,apart from Cronulla ,St G, have we beat a team above us

Look May is awesome, but we are really lacking and have often struggled to field front rowers. We criticise Benji for playing 2 backs in reserve, but really we don't have the forwards to play. ....

Lindsay, Spencer, Angus... The Roosters have something of a competitive pack in spite of loosing people. When teams take us on in the middle, we loose. I.e. Penrith.

Everyone has valid points on here.

For mine- the way to win at Rugby League hasn't changed, despite trends.

You still win in the trenches. And the Tigers do not win the trenches.

We have a collection of pretty good middles. May, Pole, Fainu, Twal, Seyfarth, Hunt...all of them have their good values.

But not one of them is aggressive in contact. No hitters. No JWH style guys. Nobody that, when the game is turning against us, can grab the team & lead the way.

Hunt is the guy that MIGHT have been able to do it, but he plays too few minutes & too few involvements.

If we cannot win the ruck, the collision...if we cannot turn momentum when it's against us...if we cannot throw something at a team like the Panthers when they are shutting us down- it doesn't matter how good your halves & centres are.

I don't know a better way of saying it...I think we need a couple of thugs in the middle to make teams NOT want to play us.

Well,

Hunt fits that 'thug' kind of player and for the first 6 rounds off the bench... That was him.

We changed his position, it did not work... He got fat. ... We kept him in the not working position, then removed him from the team.

Two lessions:
1. Craig Fitzgibbon reads players right.
2. Don't change what works.

Who’s fault is that? He has been controlling our roster for 3 years and has signed a bloke for at least 500k per year who is now playing reserve grade

As a whole, the club has not been able to externally identify and sign any junior talent since the Fainu’s and that was old management despite them not being any better than current.

We haven’t even been able to keep our own ffs
