Seems they were looking for any excuse to regain full control meaning the review done a couple of years ago is comepletely pointless now. They agreed to implement the changes form the review and have backflipped on them and set us backwards again.

As an old Magpie the Balmain sides of the 1980s were awesome. I know I'll leave great players out but players like Jack, Mick Neill, Pearce, Sirro, Blocker and Back Door were outstanding. I still think Elias was the best hooker I've ever seen and tough as nails too. Terrible human but great footballer.
Warren Ryan butchered you blokes in the 1989 GF.

When he first came across from the UK to play for us man he ripped teams apart, so elusive and fast.

Hanley was in my Top 3 favourite footballers I've had the privelage of seeing play.

Wayne Pearce, Hanley & later on, Benji Marshall.

Obviously it's a biased list, but those 3 formed my footballing mind.

Depends on how far you go back. Wests were dubbed ‘the millionaire club’ back in the 50’s & 60s. The whole battlers thing was brought into play by Roy Masters in the 70’s and has been carried forward from there.

Balmain have won the third most premierships in their time and were considered a top club early on, but that certainly hasn’t always been the case. From what I can remember growing up they were a pretty average team, their underdog status in the 1969 GF attests to that. The 1980s brought change when they had some great line ups going around. I don’t ever recall Balmain being considered classier though by any stretch of the imagination.

As for Collingwood, they’ve always been one of the most supported and successful teams. Not sure about universally hated unless you’re a Carlton supporter lol. I think the Swans were at one stage on a par with being most hated club especially when they first entered the AFL.

I really don't know re AFL, except the amount of hate I read about Collingwood seems to be a common factor. Swans are hated and rightly so, they are their Storm...

I don't think there was any great Wests Magpies hate in the NRL. Strange Wests being called the "Millionaries club" during St George's massive Grand final stretch in the 50's.

I just hope he keeps that haircut, it will look good sitting on the Eels bench.
I shouldn’t say that he’s actually a very good young man and in time he will be an exceptionally good NRL number 9..
Who can begrudge him of leaving us for the big money he was offered, I just don’t think it was a good career choice as Ryley Smith is not much older and a tougher, more aggressive and more physical player at this stage of their careers.
I am confident TDS will be a better player than Api by the 2027 season, but we still couldn’t justify paying him the money he was asking for and what the Eels are supposedly paying him.

No HBG involvement it could be a good thing.
