Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not for 1mil . Because if it’s reported at 1mil , it’s probably 1.1-1.2m , maybe even 1.3m by the end of the deal . He will be 33. And front rowers , which he will be by then , fall off a cliff once they hit 30. I mean they had to do it , they ended a game changer … but man that’s going to age like Dairy Farmers finest on a 40 degree day . And honestly , I don’t think he moves the needle at all in regards to wins and losses as good as he is . They have a tonne of talented forwards coming through , and with Stewart and halangahu , might be better than him as early as 2027. Hopefully he attracts players to the club ,because by 2030 , that will be the qorst contract in the nrl IMO.
RE: Keaon Koloamatangi

I reckon Flanagan believes if he doesn't succeed, then he won't be the coach come 2027.

Heck that's probably an underground tactic now. Sign players for longer contracts. If the club gets stuck long term... Not your problem.

Dragons lose another young talent

The Dragons have lost another of their promising juniors - former Harold Matthews Player of the Year Alex Futialo.

The big, raw-boned 18-year-old prop has gone to the Tigers ... with a catch.

Futialo has only signed a one-year deal as he is attracting plenty of interest from the rugby union ranks.

And with Perth entering the premiership in 2027 when he is a free agent, don't be surprised if Mal Meninga calls the boom front-rower for a sneaky chat.
Other then I have no chance in saying his surname.

Awesome. We need a junior prop and someone our pack can build off.

I wouldn't pay 1 mill a year till he's 33, he's a good player but nowhere near Payne Haas.

Expect the market over the next 3yrs make million $$$ players for the top 3 players in each squad the normal. With a new TV deal getting negotiated more $$$ than ever will be streaming in.

I have no issues with his price tag, he is a top quality forward that walks into any club. It’s not as though they paid 1.5m for him per season.

Young Flano copes way too much flack from the fans and media. Okay he is no Cleary, but he was pretty solid most of last season in a team that was very inconsistent. The Dragons are vert similar to us, they can compete with most sides but just lack that super star game breaker to ice the close games. They have a truck load of kids coming out of steel city so I think they will make a move up the table and be a force in a couple of years.
I agree.

Young Flanno would be playing in our halves and not knocking him, is kinda average not garbage.

It's his old man sheltering him that's the problem. Kyle definately did not deserve to play every game and that's why he gets a stack of flack. ...

The guy is a first grader, not much more then that.

Maybe not the price tag. I just can't buy in on young talent at the moment.. the club has no stability and crappy pathways... Been a tigers fan too long... Even Makasini, I just assume he will leave eventually.. can't blame me right

Well I don't agree if he was 28 at the end of his contract yes, but in 3 years he turns 30 with 3 more years at 1 mill at the back end of his career when injuries normally hit.

Agree about the cap probability of going up in 3 years and more players getting paid that being the norm, but we are talking in 1 years time, I think that his contract is overs at that point in time and will also be when he's 33.

Did you see Makasini's jersey presentation with his family? I don't think he's going anywhere, especially if the club is on an upward trajectory.

Are we talking Keoan K?

Look I get paying over 1m for a good front rower is worth it. for 700k I would definately sign him long term. 1m, I kinda wouldn't although I get the impact.

Contrast that with Terrell May:

May's stats totally put Keoan to shame. That said we can't just sign a team of T May's....

Totally worth paying over 1m for the right forward. not thinking Keoan is it.
Ofcourse Payne Haas at any price:

For a team that needs to build a forward presence : leader $1m for Keon isn’t the end of the world, Haas isn’t going to a rebuild especially for $1m.

Dragons will pay $1m plus for 2-3 players anyway Keon is the best of what is available by a mile. It solves a massive problem for them.

Who else is on the market mix that with 2 new teams and the salary cap increases = prices increase. We as fans need to realize that.

As to Keon v May most players would prefer May running at them than Keon.

Ok I don’t understand why we would sign this kid for 1year , unless there’s a clause in it ,
1) why waste money on him if he’s going to leave
2) surely benji would have sold him a picture and he has a clause to extend if he’s hits certain goals
Other than the above, it is a strange signing

What do you think of the Keaon contract b.
Much the same as I think of Luai’s mate,
Probably overpriced on output
- but when you need it or want it, you just gotta pay it.

We get a bit more from Luai in recruitment aid than I think Keon offers - but we also paid more for him…

They need a win, if it comes through they’ll be happy… they’re still short in lots of places though. They generally don’t worry me too much the dragons.

That sounds like the Cleary plan when he purchased all the duds.

Good point mate +200k per season desperado tax, beggars can't be choosey, about that much overpaying him I reckon.
