How long do you suppose Shaun has in the job?How on earth can you be that oblivious, naive or just stupid??
At most clubs sure, must players wouldn't know more than a couple of board members. They go about their business professionally in the background and perhaps offer some off field advice to players here and there.
At WT the board makes everything about them, their constant childishness, fighting and making the front page of the news means that every player, their agent and their families would be very familiar with the morons that are destabilising the organisation that they work for.
Once Wests Ashfield are removed from the board then yes the parsers can stop worrying about the future of the organisation they work for.
Oh and players don't have to like the CEO, they just need to respect them. Richo was respected as a successful CEO who was putting the framework of a successful club in place and fighting against those who wanted to tear the club down. Shaun is a people person and will be easier to talk to, yes, but they doesn't mean he's a better CEO for the club. I liked what he did at the Mariners though, that was super impressive.
Top 8 is a huge stretch. Bit of revisionist history methinks. We were on track for a top 8 finish until the Galvin drama. It took us a good 8 weeks to recover.
Compare it to what happened with the warriors when Metcalf got injured.
Don't let context get in the way of your narrative though
I think there's very little chance that more than one non fta platform gets the rights. The last thing the nrl wants to do is weaken its brand by diluting the access over half a dozen networks, live has happened for some American sports. The nrl cannot compete like that, Aussies won't sign up to a platform for one match a week.Because their whole business is built around the nrl and afl . All the other stuff from Seinfeld , to the latest Sony movie are just filler to keep you engaged when you arnt watching the football .
It’s the same for Fox sports and espn in the USA , sky with Premier league in the Uk .
All you have to do is cancel your Kayo subscription over the summer months and it’s endless freebies to get you to sign back up.
If the fox /stan/ Netflix/apple/Prime pay overs for the rights they’ll simply jack up the prices of subscription , or the cost of ad space . Of which people will pay .
In my opinion the next TV deal will be spit across multiple platforms and fox might actually be the one left without a musical chair . If Netflix pays exorbitant amount for the Thursday night game to simulcast with 9, and Apple Pay’s for the Saturday games then Stan/9 can claim the Sunday and Friday night games , all paying overs.
The real issue is how much uptick would the streamers who are mostly UsA based , get from the nrl or afl rights .
My guess is Stan/9 a probably paramount/10 , will go in hard for the nrl rights , might even split them , and potentially cut fox out .
Origin and the test matches … well they’ll go to the highest bidder . Origin is basically 3 super bowls, and is usually all 3 gams in the top 5 most watched tv shows every year . They will cost a fortune .
As hard as it is to understand, some people find joy in the suffering of Tigers fans. Who gets on here days after the purging of WT board and pens 200 posts in support of the Debenture holders, and praising their good work? Debenture holder? SPD? or both? Either way the fans didn’t create this mess. You're right, perhaps constant protests at the front door of Wests Ashfield and outside the homes of each debenture holder is the solution
Stop whingingWests Tigers fans are far and away the biggest whingers in the NRL.
It has to change for the better.
Dunno where you're looking...there has been.plenty of what you described.Ah well , 9 am has come and gone and no Bulla re signing .
Boys back on deck for pre season part 2.
If Elliot was coming he should have been sorted and at training now getting flogged .
No club training photos or videos , this needs to be done badly , how easy is it to take photos of players and do say 3 or 4 , 1 minute videos of the new guys or just players in action hitting the pads , tackling , club is poor on this front , I would expect at least 2 lots of this before the trails and even a small doco like last season boot camp 20 minutes of showing what they have , Bulla sticks in my mind from last one ,
Ahhh it’s Monday and just my rant
In response to the last paragraph, I think Bateman and Galvin had to go as they appeared to be a hindrance not a help. Arguably same could be said for Klemmer though he mostly kept his grievances out of the media. Though again this is ignoring the question of why is that the case? Is the individual to blame or the club? If it is the individual, then we have had a lot of problematic individual who coincidentally are fine elsewhere.Bateman was not missed. He was a toxic influence. Papalii wasn't missed in that he had no impact on the field whatsoever, offered nothing in attack and defence was just average. Fainu a far superior player. Stefano also underperformed here and May was far superior. TDS never proved much on the field in his few years in first grade, he does offer more than Hope but it's on 5 times the salary. Api deserves 60mins a a week, so letting tds go to where he thought he could get more gametime makes sense. Blore as well is just a solid squaddie. You don't complain if he's in your 17 but he's not going to win you any matches either. Would he have been better than Seyfarth or Sukkar in the back row, sure. But the difference isn't that huge.
Given how destabilising many of these players were, the poor example they were setting for younger players, his did we miss them all so much?
Disagree on Sam the times his form was questionable was when playing with leg injuries last season, how would you go playing with a limp, also think he has a higher ceiling than Blore. In response to the last paragraph, I think Bateman and Galvin had to go as they appeared to be a hindrance not a help. As for the others.
I think Papallii was good for us. Obviously not his barnstorming best but he did a heap of work and was given 0 help. Fainu is no where near superior yet and may never be. In fact just looking at their Tigers work and not Papallii at Parra or Penrith I still believe Papallii has been the better player. So whilst I'm happy to agree to disagree on who is better let's say Fainu is for the argument....we still played last season without a competent right edge or lock. Papallii could have filled either void.
Stefano looked to have called it quits halfway through his final season here. So I'll agree he underperformed here. Again, why was this the case? Regardless May might have been better but every other middle that took the field for us most certainly was not. He was missed because you need 2 front rowers (plus a couple more on the bench) not just May. So, yes, we definitely missed him, even his subpar performances would have been an improvement on all our middles but May.
I think Blore is grossly underestimated on here. Of course not a superstar but a significant step up on Seyfarth/Sukkar/Sione on an edge. Heck his typical game is slightly better than what Samuela did for about 60percent of the year. Once again there are 2 edges, we missed him.
TDS was contracted not just in 25 but in 26 as well for about 300-350k. Not the 600+ of his new contract. So about 2.5x that of Hope. We are running Api into the ground without a back up and look to have Hope as next man up again. So again we will likely miss him. Not to mention it is a further example of us not holding players we develop. Which further substantiates a negative narrative. Will he be worth it in 27 not sure, probably not. But the way we are burning Api I also doubt he will be.
And again let's say we didn't actually miss any of them. The point remains we tried to retain them but failed.
I agree with every one of these points tbhIn response to the last paragraph, I think Bateman and Galvin had to go as they appeared to be a hindrance not a help. Being at the Tigers though, noone will fault Benji for it. They'll blame the owners and rightfully so. Two of the last 3 coaches we have lost or sacked have won the last 5 comps. To be a long serving coach you need to be at a successful club - they go hand in hand.
Benji is a talented individual but he is not capable of single handedly turning the fortunes of this club but he will wear it like those before him.
Haven’t seen hardly any photos or videos from the club in pre season .Dunno where you're looking...there has been.plenty of what you described.
As for an announcement at 9am on first day back...serious?
Only reason they gave the deal was because the media reported they were contemplating Brad Arthur, then the players fronted the football dept and said if Benji goes we go, HBG panicked and by the afternoon of the Brad Arthur story Benji had a 5 year deal waiting to be signed.🤣.I think that would have happened to some level irrespective of the board stuff.
The players have been holding the club to ransom to various degrees over Benji for a while now, culminating in stories that a heap would walk if he was sacked….its outrageous when you think about it.
Give it a go if you feel so strongly about it.You're right, perhaps constant protests at the front door of Wests Ashfield and outside the homes of each debenture holder is the solution
We can’t seem to catch a break? Maintain some momentum. Always seems to be a change in direction. Even when we had a 5 year plan which was centred around a coaching succession plan we got a spoon and sacked a coach with the 5 year plan becoming a 4 then a 3 year plan until it disappeared into space like that helium balloon at a kids party.Haven’t seen hardly any photos or videos from the club in pre season .
Bulla signing first day back should have been pre organised for a nice start to part 2 pre season , it’s not hard mate , Dragons did it in Xmas break , so ya serious , this club can never set something up and bang it out it’s just grind , grind , grind , anyways it was just my rant , we see what is done in couple more weeks
I am going to disagree here.Im keen to see how Canberra go. I've long had a theory that Ricky Stuart cant coach. He has the ability to get his team to lift substantially one season then they fall away for a few years. Let's see if it happens again.
That was so laughable they were so going to knife Benji in the back and when they were exposed they panicked and offered a ridiculous extension.Only reason they gave the deal was because the media reported they were contemplating Brad Arthur, then the players fronted the football dept and said if Benji goes we go, HBG panicked and by the afternoon of the Brad Arthur story Benji had a 5 year deal waiting to be signed.🤣.
In all honesty though it could be 30 years, HBG don't care, they'll sack him, pay him out, then hire a budget coach till Benjis contract expires to save money. It's what HBG do because they're incompetent scumbags.
