Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

is there any mail to say bula is staying ? he has had plenty of time to sign a extension...
Dogs moving the pieces xeri then Burton next
Gus is a madman ,just moving pieces because he likes the spot light
Its true to some extent that he initially sets up a good structure ,but his ego won't let go or move on .
Just for the record ,he was with Auckland Warriors ,during covid to put a plan in place but never stuck around ,hence no problems moving forward ,Penrith kicked on when Gus wasn't cookin in the kitchen no longer.
Gus can go dark stealth on Bula all he likes , if it happens it will bite Ciraldo on the bum.
rant over ,lol , plenty of time for the Club and Bula to not have to make brash decisions for the fans
No trustworthy mail either way just innuendos

The problem is the at the dogs the communication was that these guys were core members , as recently as round 8/9 last year … then they weren’t . You could say sexton was always looking over his shoulder , but Mahoney ? Xerri ? Burton ? There’s a reason Mahoney was looking to punch on in Vegas . Some ill feelings there . But you’re right that’s no different to Bateman . And there’s a common denominator… and we all know who that is. I think also guys like Mahoney affected and ultimately changed the dogs culture . Remember he went there when no one would . Bateman came in late , drive a shit culture within the team , perpetuated division and ultimately he was as much to blame as Richo was . The guys mentioned at the dogs changed the culture to the positive , and it was a case of what have you done for me lately.
The guys we released did the opposite. I think that’s the difference
Yes Mahoney went there when no-one else wanted to go there, he also accepted what no-one else was offering to do so. Dogs owe him nothing in my opinion, even if I agree he was pushed out. Fairly? Maybe, maybe not. But that is the game nowadays. Now, yes, he was seen as a core member of the side given he was a co-captain prior to Crichton's arrival. I've only ever heard how it was Crichton who changed the culture. I don't think I've ever really heard anything positive about Mahoney.

The others however:
Sexton was given his contract and it seemed to be clear from day one he was only ever seen as a temporary solution to them.
Xerri I don't believe has ever been told or perceived as being core in any way. They got him on the cheap due to his time out of the game. The arguments rightly or wrongly about our players being moved on could be applied to him.
Burton is still there. Is currently still key to their success and whilst long term looks to possibly end up being the odd man out I don't see him getting pushed aside prior to his contract expiring.

The only difference I see is our results were terrible so it's deemed fine to push them out. Dogs were having some success so despite their management believing they are upgrading the team it's suddenly not ok.

As for someone seen as, or communicated to as, being core. I'll raise you JOffa. Went from Player of the Year and upgraded and extended one year to pushed out 2 months into the next season. Again cap management perspective potentially understandable but as ruthless against a player as anything that's happening at any other club.
So again I see Dogs as no different to anyone else in how they treat players.

Do you really believe that?

Tago was a grand final centre last year. Did you know To'a had better/same stats than him.last year?
ive been a fan of Starfords during his ups n downs ,but resigning him to the length of that contract, with his history with injuries, was madness ,
Doubt we will see the best of him in the next 18 months - good luck trying to shift that contract on up the road

Contract term and accusing him of faking injuries are 2 separate discussions.

Agreed. I've always been a fan of what he can bring on field. He did however come with a rep for being a bad trainer.
My concerns isn't so much the fact hes copped more than his fair share of injuries. It is, given his reputation, have these injuries been the result of poor prehab and rehab? I don't know if this is the case just something I am mindful of.

doesn't sound like the player Benjie wants around,

What gets me is the wording “players being pushed out”
No player has to leave if they have a contract, example Ryan Matterson at Parramatta assuming he has been told he probably won’t see any NRL again but decided to stick around and collect his pay packet.
Most players leave a club because they want to be playing in the NRL not reserve grade
BUT
They don’t have to, They choose to.
