Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If i didnt know any better I'd swear you were a bot designed to send me on an infinite loop where no questions are ever answered.

List the games in 2025/2026 where Suli "destroyed" oppositions?

He doesnt offer much in the way of attack:

2017 - 2 tries
2018 - 1 try
2019 - 6 tries
2020 - 2 tries
2021 - 3 tries
2022 - 5 tries
2023 - 2 tries
2024 - 3 tries
2025 - 1 try
2026 - 2 tries

Toa scored 9 tries last year with 8 try assisrs. That's better than any season Suli has ever had.

Im not sayint Toa is the answer.

But you dont replace like for like, you upgrade.
1 try for an entire year for a starting centre is madness

Watched the replay, Missing Twal will be a huge loss, We need Twal, KPP,T.May & Sam Fainu all fit and available to be a chance to make the top 8.
Having Sione, Pole,Hunt and Seyfarth on the field for long minutes weaken’s our defence
Immensely.
Pole & Sione are ok interchanging each other.
Hunt or Seyfarth replacing T. May if needed and only for short minutes preferably 10 minutes each side of halftime.
Latu for Twal if needed.

Looking at our forwards this week I’m thinking we are in a heap of trouble.
Hope I’m wrong

Yeah

Not much destroying going on there.

Suli had 8 try assists to go with the 1 try in 2025 and a total of 2 line breaks.

Toa had 8 assists, scored 9 tries with 8 line breaks.

Defensively, they both had 90% tackle efficiency.

Does that mean we can say Toa destroyed oppositions? On his day, he is fire. But they have been few and far between. Suli is more rocks and diamonds than Toa - and that says alot!

In a perfect world we see Toa reach his potential.

Either way, Suli is not the answer.

Its only a couple of journos saying this and you really have to wonder where its come from.
1. WTs?
2. Jake?
3. Agent?
4. Journos creative writing?

First two.options id say no...1. could.upset the balance at thenclub currently.

3rd....possible but no real logic behind why.
4th. ..Because they love to BS.

Maybe this was leaked to flush a rat....or maybe its true and its what got him over the line here at WTs...i still see no benefit in leaking this positional news this far out during a cooling off period
There just pissing in the wind.

He'll play right centre.

Reported that Averillo has signed a 4year $2.75m deal with the WT....thats nearly $700k a year.....thats way overs IMO....we didn't need to pay that sort of money to get him did we?....he is a $500k player max.

Royce in talks with ESL

"The 30-year-old is contracted until the end of 20276 but has opened talks with Brad Arthur’s Leeds Rhinos."

Bloody hell, an 18,251-year contract. No wonder we're always getting into cap squeezes - can't imagine Hunt offering much at18,280 years old particularly given his size and the consequences of significant global heating. Short minutes for sure.

For some additional context on suli vs toa in 2025, Averillo scored 11 tries with 9 try assists but had an 87% tackle efficiency (91% this year)... also had 17 line breaks (compared to Toa's 8 and Suli's 2!!)
Well that’s good because I’ve been wanting Averillo as our right centre for the past 2 years and now we finally have him.
No point continuing discussing Suli when we now have our centre partner for Taylan May when he is fit.
We still need better back up depth at centre and wing, but that’s another story as Suli costs far too much to be a back up depth player.
I am very impressed with what I have seen in our Jersey Flegg games from Glassie Glassie and Filipe Huahulu this season. As they are both only 19y.o they may be good enough and develop quickly enough to become NRL back up by the start of the 2027 season.

I never understand why NRL fans want to quibble and challenge what newly signed players may be worth.

When we sign a player with a record and a reputation like Averillo, we are generally bidding against other clubs.

It's similar to buying a house. The market dictates the price, regardless of what buyers would prefer it to be. You want a sought-after player, you have to offer the winning price.

Otherwise, you're buying unproven rookies or burnt-out oldies.

Who cares if you think the reported price for Averillo is too much? Obviously, the reported competition for his signature dictates the price.

The club determines whether he's worth it based on their plans for the squad over the next 4 years, and how the salary cap management will work.

Besides, we don't know what he will be paid apart from media reports, which can vary. We don't know exactly what other players in the squad are paid, either, and what space there'll be in the salary cap in 2027 and beyond, given recruitment and retention changes.
Fantasy football has.made.many think.theyre player agents...its highly amusing seeing people rattle.off digures as confidently as them reporting their own income...its all speculation

Yep, Glassie Glassie is very classy. But don't forget KOE right centre FooFighter Fainga'a! He set up 3 of Saukuru's 4 tries on Sunday. Pathways are looking better than ever atm.

It's because in a league with a salary cap footballers aren't just footballers - they're footballers with contracts attached.

Do I think Averillo is a good player? Yes. Do I think he'll probably improve the Tigers' first grade team? Also yes. Do I think he'll improve it by so much that I wouldn't mind if the money we're paying him means we can't afford to re-sign, say, Makasini next time he needs extending? No.

That's the point. You can't just say "who cares" what we're paying someone. I mean, sure, the club obviously thinks it's worth it but the club also thought Russell Packer, Josh Reynolds and John Bateman were worth it. We're allowed to have different views - that's sort of what this site is for.

I agree that we don't know what any contract is and I'm sure media reports are often inaccurate. But, again, this is the "signings, suggestions *and rumours*" thread and we can only discuss what's out there. If it's being reported that we're giving Averillo average annual value of around $650,000 that's obviously fair game to discuss - and much as we all slag off NRL reporters I'd be pretty surprised if it turned out to be $300,000 or $1m.
