Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We supposedly don’t have much cal space to sign anyone else of great quality.
I suppose that’s the problem when you pay marquee money for someone who doesn’t produce marquee quality on field performances on a regular basis and we overpay other players to keep them at the club.

Go after Joe Chan …about 5 years younger and on about half the money as Luciano

Wakeham has filled in most of the year …

Feledy and Simpkin … probably others if I could be bothered to look…

I don’t think their depth generally is any better on paper than ours …but seems to do a job if called on…am I wrong there
That is correct, you can look at it 2 ways and say our depth is not good enough or our core players do not have enough quality to lift and produce the high quality performances we need for them when we have 5 depth players in our top 17.

To be clear …my exact point with this example is that a number of the depth players are the same …but play better at a different club versus ours,,, what should we put that down to ?

I don’t mind Joe Chan.
He is at least fast and athletic enough to break tackles and make a line break when playing on an edge and although he is not a natural centre, he has shown he can play as a centre better than anyone we currently have aside from Taylan May.
He would be a good signing from an attacking point of view, but he is prone to bad defensive reads and misses which is not ideal.
Aside from that you know who his manager is ?
I don’t think 4 recent floggings has done much to change this managers mind on Benji’s coaching ability.

I look.for things like this...but its really hard to gauge.

I noticed last week we seemed.to be laughing and mucking around a bit in the warm up while the dogs seems intent focussed and serious...it had me a bit concerned....but as we know we.won that

Penrith seem to be ultra professional ...melbourne.

I remember 05 how we'd run out for games laughing smiling and happy...it seemed to me to be not the time and place for that

Some.of the pod guys go to training often ie nearly all the time...ive asked a few times is what they dish up on sundays sililar to taining?
Its baffling to me.how we can go from the defealnsive resolve we showerld against the dogs to the pathetic.embarrasing display yesterday

Id also question if our assistant coaches are the BEST men fir the job because its one helluva coincidence theyre all old benji teammates if they are
I think thats always been the concern. To me, whoever did the warming up yesterday should have been putting a rocket up them before the game. They were coming up against the number 1 team in the NRL. WT haven't earnt the right to be laughing and joking around before the game like that. Oh wait on, we beat them in a trial that meant absolutely nothing 😆
Its the coaching staffs job to get these guys ready to perform, yesterday was an epic fail.

Exactly what I just said. The star players at other clubs are much higher quality than our star players, therefore the same depth players that look hopeless when playing for us, look up to standard when playing alongside the star players at other clubs.
We never learn, we have just paid up around 1 million per season to re-sign 2 players who are 2 of our best players, never the less they are not anywhere near the same standard of players that other teams are willing to pay 1 million per season.
Until we draw the line and start saying we don’t care how good players think they are, until they can start proving they are genuine marquee players, stop paying them marquee player money which jeopardises us from having enough cap space to recruit and sign better quality depth.
We are once again a mess and would be better off starting from scratch like the Perth Bears.

Win and losing ratio - everyone escapes criticism when you are winning. Looking at Manly's squad I reckon three quarters of them walk into our team or at least match them. Pasaka Jake T Haumale Hetherington Bullemor Ben T Koula Hopoate Saab Fogarty all eat our lot up. Garrick and Brooks probably a match for anything we have.

We have some good players too…although you wouldn’t have known yesterday

Which players are you referring to? Let me guess ..Bula and Terrell May … two of our best

Good is the key word.
We have some good players, but no star players like Manly and almost every other NRL team have.
In our defence I would say our 3 out injured being Doueihi, Samuela Fainu and Taylan May are our 3 best players and our only 3 players who have the required x-factor to be considered as star players.

Bula is clearly one of our best players , and apparently we couldn’t win a game without Api two weeks ago …Terrel May is a Top 10 prop in the game..

Luai is….

Our back-up players were absolutely woeful.
1. Murray and Hope are not creditable back-ups. Two tries from their dummy half. No attacking flair.
2. Tavana [@ 23 yrs old] was a NO SHOW. Did not chase the bombs, [his only attacking flair] could not mark his opposite [Jenkins] and was so slow, gave up the chase when defending. Back to Reggies--not a demotion--but learn how to play for the rest of the year. Stay on your man and not run infield unless you can stop the ball. Signed until 2030 - big mistake, can't train speed or IQ.
3. Makasini @ 18 yrs and put in this position is a reflection of how weak our depth is. Still learning how to defend against a backline attack. No faith in those around him. A work in progress.
4. If not for Bula i think Penrith may have got close to a ton. KPP and Terrell did their best in the middle.

It was a genuine question. I think the tigers results are more to do with who’s out rather than who’s in. We do not have any origin players. The ones most likely to be rep players have been out.

Having said that, imo wakeham = Madden. Simpkin has always been better than hope and Murray.

Manlys squad is streets ahead of Tigers. They tanked early in the season and have underperformed for years.
