Available stocks now are low for 2027 …considering most have been on the market 9 months already …

Agree ..Hopefully some guys will be squeezed out if other clubs look to free up some cap space ..

I mean ..trying to have an optimistic take … our Top 17 is ok …probably somewhere around the 8-12 range …but we are the worst squad relying on current depth … I think the most critical loss we have had is Taylan May ..we do not have an attacking outside back option without him …

He does not speak up in team meetings, he does not mentor younger players, he simply looks after himself. Not in a selfish way, he is supposed to be a great bloke. Yes he is quiet but he leads with his actions and professionalism around preparing himself & training. Apparently he is a good mentor.

Frizell also could straight away move into a starting prop role for us or be that experienced bench middle/edge. If an injury did occur to KPP & Samuela, his experience and defensive nous on an edge would be much better than Sione or Seyfarth.

Recently Newcastle journo Barry Toohey wrote this in his column how Frizell wants to stay in Newcastle but the club may not be able to afford him unless they can move someone on.

The problem is fitting him into the salary cap.

The Knights have one spot left in their top 30 for next season but we're hearing it's a minimum wage position only worth $150,000.

To squeeze Frizell in on a salary that he will be happy with and one that fits his standing within the playing group, it seems highly likely another player currently on the roster will have to be moved on.

That can be easier said than done.

It's understood a number of players including the likes of James Schiller and Kyle McCarthy have permission to negotiate elsewhere. But no one with a contract is obliged to leave although push can come to shove with some NRL clubs.

Frizell admits to being frustrated at the stalemate.

"I've been pretty loyal and hopefully I'm not disrespected by the way it's handled," he told us. "I've spoken to the coach and I'll keep doing my best for the team and hopefully it can work itself out."

Hes about to turn 35..and its not like hes been playing in a dinner suit like a certain Storm hooker!
And btw..we need to break down the boys club with real leaders who can engage with words rather than actions or their boom box

A cheap shot at a bloke who plays with one leg and smashed through the opposition due to pure will and determination representing the club we all apparently support in the game that all NRL players aspire to reach.
Pat Richards is an impressive human

Yes agree we need more leaders with voices too but Frizell will bring plenty. Just don't know who is possible to recruit with a strong voice like the Luai type. Leniu perhaps but we'd need to offload Royce to free up the cash for someone of his value. Who else?

They might go and get some depth, but the players they’ve been putting stock in for depth just aren’t up to it. Look at how they persisted with having guys like Hope around the top 20 all season when he is clearly not up to NRL standard. He’s not the only one either.

Not sure if any of these have done deals but that’s 5 solid players ,
Frizell and Rudolf probably $ 300 k each
K Mann $ 280 k
K McInnes $ 350
Spencer $ 650 - $ 700
We loose - Luai , Kit L , Geyer , Luke L , Mason , Skelton , Hope , probably couple more , surely we can have a crack at 3 of above

Apparently hes not happy with $5m over four years.

Not happy with $5m...let that sink in.

Top tier players are getting extremely greedy imo

I hope he screws up holding out...hes hoping a premiership will bump his price up

He is worth what the market will pay him and I agree that $5m over 4 years is good money and close to what he is worth in my opinion. Having said that I don't begrudge these guys going after the $$, their careers earning good coin are limited and they could get a career ending injury at any time....lets not get into the longer term effects of playing a high impact sport and what that means for them and their families. Maybe with Sam there are some unfavorable clauses the Roosters have inserted in his contract and its not really about the overall $ value.

Yep the PNG incentives has made it ridiculously difficult for clubs to compete in terms of money and more so for a club like ours who already struggled to attract players.
Leaves us with very few options
