We said this 3 years ago tho and they all fell out with the club or coach and left, they had attitude issues like miller or simply aren’t good enough like mason. So not saying the young lads are doomed but we can’t pin all the hopes of the club on young talent

Be jnteresting to see how many make it to the NRL and are successful ( more than the average amount of games played by someone at NRL level ....I think someone said 43 games )
If we get 2 to that level I'll be surprised

I wouldn't say elite, but yes he is a very good athlete but as a 7 he has a poor passing game and a below standard kicking game. He can be a good athlete and playing well for the team and still not be the player we need. He was the best player we had in attack, but that was primarly because those out side him rarely saw the pill.

Adam Doueihi if playing 5/8 will not be our problem, but he will need to be playing extremely well to keep Javon Andrews out of the team.
Our halves are fine, we just need added depth in other positions to ensure our halves have decent quality around them, even when we get a few injuries.

So far this is what our NRL and Cup(depth) squad is looking like for next season based on confirmed signings. The starting 13-17 looks strong enough and did the job early this season, but when injuries hit and the back end of the roster had to stand up is when we fell apart.
We are definite need in a couple more middles and overall depth in the forwards. Frizell would be a good addition on the bench/depth. Retaining Skelton on a cheap deal would also be ideal, but hopefully we can add a NRL calibre forward to the squad and reliable depth players to round out the top 30 for next season

The top 17 looks decent and capable of challenging almost any rival team if they are all playing close to the best of their abilities.
I would hope it’s Latu at 7 and Doueihi at 6, even though Latu is probably better suited at 6 himself.
The problem is still our depth.
Halves depth looks decent.
We need better depth with at least one good quality outside back, we need at least one good quality middle and ideally another edge back row option.
That NSW Cup forward pack looks too young and inexperienced, they need one, maybe two tough experienced forward leaders to help with their development.

The next man up theory doesn't always work it's just another catch phrase that people over use to back a narrative.
Everyone is always wiser after the fact when they see who finishes at the top of the competition but it is ridiculous to assume that all things are equal at every club - especially when it comes down to the ability of squads.
There will always be teams that are weaker than others.
Newcastle definitely the surprise packet this season and not surprisingly probably Ponghas best season in an age. Also they brought Peter OSullivan to the club 2024 one of the best recruitment managers in the business also responsible for putting the Dolphins squad together - both teams there at the pointy end and the talent is evident in both squads.
Melbourne is a great example of the next man up not always being enough - hit by injuries and just didn't have the quality of players that they are accustom to - to maintain the position they have held in the top eight consistently for years with the best coach/resources in the business.

From what I see of the defence he is behind I reckon he must cover a hell of a lot of distance over 80 minutes. Would like to see his GPS data for this.
The one criticism he seems to get most - his lack of effectiveness in attack - I think has mitigating circumstances given he plays for the tigers.
Yes, I'm a big fan, but really think it should be taken into account that a fullback behind a sieve-like defence has to work a lot harder covering than say a Dylan Edwards would.
Surely the amount of line breaks the team concedes (which I also think he handles as well as any other fullback in the comp), and the greater expenditure of energy in defence in general has to make it way harder for him to put in as much in attack as most other fullbacks?
He's also had crab walking/ball hogging halves and near no one to put him through a gap; I think this is a big reason he doesn't score more tries.
Still, he has shown quite a few times he can throw a well-held pass, a great pass infield at full speed (to Herbert against the Roosters?) for assists, as well as benefit from offloads - particularly from KPP.
I just think he gets an incommensurate amount of shit.
