Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

PANTHERS HIT YEO SNAG

While the Panthers are confident they’ll eventually be able to lock down Cleary and Isaah Yeo, the club has hit somewhat of a snag in confirming Yeo’s multi-year deal.

Earlier reports suggest the two parties have agreed on a deal but the NRL is yet to rubber-stamp it.

Yeo is set to sign an extension until the end of 2030 but the Panthers wish to also add a post-playing role within the club as a part of the deal.

According to CODE Sports, the NRL’s salary cap auditor has yet to tick off on that provision of the contract, but is expected to.

It’s the reason why the club has yet to formally announce the three-year extension for the Panthers co-captain.

“We’ve been in constructive negotiations in respect to Isaah,” Cameron said.

“We are nearing completion of a three-year contract; however, we have not yet reached a conclusion, which we hope will be imminent.”

Yeo is currently in Kangaroos camp ahead of Rugby League World Cup, which starts on Thursday night.

Didnt we try the same thing with Farah?
Can someone explain the difference

The difference is we didn't supply the correct brown paper bag with the necessary "inclusions" to bypass enough scrutiny.

@happy_tiger and @Tiger Stripes when we went on that winning run our defense was much improved, it wasn't till the horror injury toll it all went to shit and it kept on happening, changes every week preventing the team being settled for half the season.

Too many inferior players coming into the side at once causing lack of cohesion, players just not up to 1st grade standard, young blokes rushed in because there wasn't anyone else besides the COE cleaner left to use.

The new signings as a package after some thought is sound, no superstars but plenty of experience, this should improve professionalism around the joint and provide depth sadly lacked in past seasons.

If this doesn't improve defence under injury tolls than I'm running out of excuses.

Our crap attack boils down to one thing , two many one out hit ups , we need a attacking coach who can get us getting deeper in attack and stop going one out , defence falls away when u keep going one out and then having to tackle again , take the work load of the forwards and the defence will improve
The Roosters grand final game plan,
There forwards were so fresh to defend because their attack always started with the fullback hit up followed by each winger.
Not very attractive football but the old saying Defence wins games was proven to be correct again.

Yep, but when we tried it with Farah we were fined I think $150,000 and I also think Pascoe was suspended for 6 months.
Now everyone is doing it.

Look everyone think defence is a 5 minute fix or even an off season fix
I'm gunna use the 2019 Panthers as an example
To get to the where they got to in 2020 and beyond it took 2 off seasons and a full season to get to that level
They finished 10th in 2019 , below us and had a -61 for and against
They had to change everything throughout the club at all levels of football development
But look at the time involved , and I know our pain is stretched over 15 years and another year of pain is the last thing any of us want
But that's what it is going to take to get to the top
And it all comes off their defence , yes I know it helps having Cleary as a player, but his defence is arguably the best of any half in the comp
They back their defence to get them into winning positions
If it's good enough for them , then that's the level we need to aim
And I'm not saying our attack doesn't need work it needs work , but if you concentrate on attack you never fix the crux of the problem and just have to chase more and more points every week
You have to fix your defence first

Point has been made here a few times but I don't think our defence was very good to start the year. We still looked very fragile defending our red zone but it was masked because because we were dominating the yardage battle and teams simply weren't getting much of a look in.

Totally agree. We lacked NRL depth 2026 but are cherry picking to address that shortfall.
Fingers crossed that the players we have signed for 2027 live up to our hopes when called upon.

Where did I say to prioritise attack, my whole post was about defense, the point being the new recruits as a collective should improve attitudes as well as their experience level at defending.

Isn't dominance of yardage pushing the opposition back the key to winning, a sign of a useful team, isn't that how the Roosters won the grand final, the Knights weren't in the Roosters half very much.

I'd be happy if the Tigers could play that way all the way through a season, there would be a lot of ugly wins, take that instead of losses but it takes a mentally strong team to do that.

Hopefully the mental toughness of the new recruits rubs off on some of the wimps we have, if it doesn't there should be no patience to keep picking them in the side with the depth we have now.

That is part of it, but imo the style we were playing was too reliant on a couple of players providing maximum intensity and maximum aggression. Those players get hurt or suspended and the paper over the cracks disappear.

Being able to defend consecutive sets on your own line is a different thing and relies on team cohesion and structure. At no point this year was I confident we could hold teams out.

Junior Nsemba spending a lot of time with KPP whilst he's here for the world cup.

Hopefully he's talking him into becoming a Tiger 🐅 🙏

First step would be a news article stating "Nsemba appoints Australian agent." That is what happened with KPP https://www.zerotackle.com/demand-continues-to-grow-for-young-english-star-116691/

I reckon Nsemba would triple his SL salary if he came to the NRL. WT would also have to pay a transfer fee though that is not included in the cap

I hope the club realises that there is no alternative than to go through it and go back to square one.

It's almost something of a truism that defence is the foundation for success; it has been proven many times by the top coaches and teams as you've said, and is irrefutable imo.

But the past few years the tigers have been pretty good at getting the ball back into good attacking position, only for too often to look like they have zero idea what play to put on and end up not capitalising on it.

Which means they don't have points behind them... which means they don't get the ball back from the kickoff... which means they have to make a hundred more tackles every week...

Which inevitably puts more pressure on the defence, which has led to them letting in so many points.

(More witches than Salem here! 😂).

It's an argument that has no end, as both affect the other:
How a team defends is usually how a team attacks and vice versa.
