Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

AD dogged it with his team mates and refused to paly, unforgivable. The bloke has proven twice once with noddy now last year he wants to dictate where he plays.
Get rid of the bloke please,
Yes he’s a [This word has been automatically removed]ing dog who only cares about himself, idk why the club has kept him around he’s not even that good of a player, id get it if he was Benji or Cleary but he’s no where near that level

So Mason and Sukkar retained for 2027… and 29 players on the books now…

Well ..looks like we have the final squad pretty much as I wouldn’t be surprised if they go into the season have a spare spot …

Trying to have an optimistic take ..I think there is more experienced depth compared with last season …last year they had not much, and in my opinion that led to their massive swoon when the injury curse started to bite after the hot start…

Same I think they will leave the spot open unless a big fish or a position we need falls out of the tree over the off season eg Terrell may

jurnos are tipping that Nathan Cleary and Yeo will both upgrade renew their contracts with Penrith. maybe pushing Liam Martin and Moses Leota out at the end of 2027. would mind either now but are getting on in years
I would maybe take Leota if the price is right, but I’d be worried about Martin seems like with his injuries recently that the wheels may fall off

Agree. Re-signing Mason is so weird but they must see something in him. Sukkar has earned it. 1 spot left- falling from trees- halfback / prop?

Lol Bent Read:

"Nathan Clearys off the table looks like he'll stay at Penrith for 2 years, maybe 4 or 5."

Solid stuff
Why so?
That's his reported deal!

2 year extension (3 years including next) with a 2 year option in his favour.
Weird structure - But it's obviously been discussed by all parties.

Yeah I agree. Most teams tend to hold a spot open and are allowed to do this until June 30. There is also the possibility of an early release of another player (like Bird last season) to free up another spot.

I think our recruitment focus is now on 2028 and the key retentions of Pole & Latu. Reckon our radar will be on middles & outside back (right side particularly).

extremely curious to see who we pursue, if it ever makes the press.

We are a prop short aren't we?
Can never have enough quality props. Or a quality left edge allowing Sam F to move from 2nd row to the middle (if thats where he sees himself in the future).
I think we need a genuine NRL level 7. Not that i think we’ll get one. With the squad we currently have.. if we have a top 8 number 7 we would be making the final. Without that, I can’t see us getting there.
I know Manly didn’t make the 8. But Fogerty kicking game would get us into good position. Don’t know if he makes us much better in the red zone or not.

Given the clubs persistence, it would be nice to see Heath Mason turn into a proper first grader. He seems to light up reserve grade but can’t quite make the jump up yet to FG without being a liability.
I think Heath Mason has been guilt of being versatile, if he gets a decent crack at a position rather than coming in and out as a stop gap replacement it will help his cause. The kid can play and was great in NSW Cup this season.

That just demonstrates how much difference there is between the two competitions.
Don’t get sucked in with Reserve grade form.
They used to say you are not a 1st grade player until you have played 50 games,
That’s how long it took to get used to the speed and toughness to belong in the top grade.
I know it’s a different game today but I still believe that’s still about right.

So PNG offered Cleary $2m per and he will sign with Penrith for $1.7m per. Will PVL make Penrith account for $2m on the cap? I’m not understanding PVL’s approach to Hudson Young. Why are PNG being forced to account for $1m on the cap (if they sign him) despite only offering him $900k? I don’t think a big enough deal is being made of this in the media. Are the journos scared of PVL? Teams have been signing players from the tigers for decades for less than we offered to re-sign them and nobody could care less.

It’s because png will be tax free money, so effectively 1.1m for Hudson young in Canberra will be 550k for him while in png 900k will be 900 for him. So PVL is introducing it only for png so they don’t have effectively double the salary cap
