Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Talking about halves. I was quite impressed with Jarome Luai for the Panthers in their NYC game against the Eels yesterday. Given he has Cleary, TMM and Cartwright in front of him, he would be worth a crack.

He looked as good as, if not better than TMM, at NYV level. Bigger frame than TMM as well.

Yesterday was the first time I had seen him so some others might have a more informed opinion on him but I understand he is higly rated.

I wouldnt mind snatching a young gun back from a side that stole one of ours.

Could be a chance, Cleary was there when he was the NYC half when they won the comp so he'd be well aware of him.

Te Maire Martin has only been a member of the Penrith Panthers for a little under two weeks, but already he likes what he sees.

Following a stellar season with the Wests Tigers that saw him named Holden Cup Five-eighth of the Year, Martin was snapped up by the Panthers on a three year deal in early July.
>
Speaking with the Weekender, the 20-year-old superstar in the making opened up on his new surrounds and the benefits of having everything under the one roof.
>
“The Panthers are very organised, very professional,” Martin said.
>
“Everything from on-field to the gym and changing rooms, we even get breakfast and lunch, it’s all there – it’s a one-stop-shop.
>
“At the Tigers you’d sometimes have to train at Leichhardt and then travel to Concord to use the gym. It’s good to have everything in one place.”
>
Martin also praised Penrith’s training staff for helping him keep fit, healthy and focused.
>
“Everyone is really professional around here, they are even keeping me on top of my diet and supplement intake,” he said.
>
**“We get a lot of stuff here that you didn’t get at the Tigers. Everyone is happy and everyone is ready to give you a hand.”**
>
Martin is receiving plenty of support from current Panthers halves combination Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace.
>
It’s ironic given if all goes to plan, he will one day replace one of them in Penrith’s top side.
>
“Wallace and Soward are teaching me a lot,” he said.
>
“They’ve already said on our days off that they’ll help me with my kicking, they’ve really taken me under their wing.”
>
With a blossoming career on show at the Tigers these last few seasons, many supporters were puzzled as to why the joint venture club let go such a talented rising star.
>
“I played just one game of NSW Cup last year but I didn’t get another,” he said.

**“I don’t think the Tigers really liked me, I thought I had one of my best games playing NSW Cup but I think that was during the time when I told them I was leaving the following year. I don’t know if they kicked up a stink or what not, but they always had their favourites.”**
>
Clearly a little disenchanted with the Tigers, Martin saw an opportunity at the Panthers to boost his chances of playing first grade.
>
**“Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses were always going to be there a long time, they’ve invested too much money into them to go chuck the new guy in,” he said.**

“The Tigers were pretty good in the end and understood that I needed to go. Hopefully I made the right choice about coming to Penrith.”

With an aging halves pairing heading towards the end of their careers, it’s hotly tipped that Martin and Matt Moylan could one day steer the Panthers into the next generation.

I'd be really surprised to see Martin back in our colours.

Then you have many other options for the back links to pick up Milne and Edwards. Again these are cheap buys and inexperienced players which is why I'd like to see a player like Hopoate signed to play centre. Need some experience there and he won't cost a mint and has origin experience.

It's exciting times if you're a tigers fan. As long as Cleary and management pull the right reigns here

Seen you mention Hoppa a few times. We've already played 5 Sunday games this year. What good is Hoppa to us?

As long as all the talk turns into signatures then the Tigers will be good if not in a better spot with the other 3 gone and that will be the ultimate revenge.

Looks like matulino and packer are confirmed. Need one more prop though.

I believe a signing like guerra is a must as well. And I'd be meeting with CHN as soon as possible from Penrith as well

Then we get to the exciting part 5/8 and full back. There's plenty of options here

Watson/lolohea (bargain buys)
roberts/Hopoate (middle range buys)
Cronk/hayne (top line buys)

The bargain buys you are hoping potential turns into reward im a fan of getting atleast one of them but not both too risky.

Fingers crossed on a few of these names. I was hoping we would keep Seumanufagai, I think he's underused but apparently he wants out? What other props are running around that are worth a go? Pulu at the Titans? I've heard the Titans are also looking closely at Guerra too.

No club will let that happen under a new contract

Hoppa needs to go back to serving his God. He's been totally worthless since returning from his two years of door knocking.

The good thing is that the only way is up from here. We're not going to have any more devastating blows with key players turning their backs on us. Now the fun begins. I'd love us to enquire about CHN. He's under contract, but the Panthers are busting at the seems. They can't keep them all.

What makes you think CHN is under contract?

I'm a gambler.

I'm not - Bigger ego than Moses, Tedesco and Woods put together.

If you want something to entice the kids - give them a free Lego set each (alot cheaper).

Michael Gordon at full back next year for me (88% successful goal kicker) Tyrone Roberts at 5/8 as the best of a bad lot.

Hopefully Matulino and Taane Milne are coming and the speak is not just talk. So we would still need another prop and back rower????

Need to keep Ava for mine and not fussed on Packer (too big a history).

I didnt take that as badly as you did. He was just explaining why he left. That Moses and Brooks were prioritised by the coaching staff. Now, I have no idea whether he would come back, and to be honest I am not sure that I want him back, but I don't think those comments suggest a grudge against the club that nurtured and looked after him.

Sounds like our pack is nearly sorted. Big thing is right backrow now. IMO the best option is a FIT Idris. He would kill it if he can get fit enough. What halves would take the ball to the line with Idris there. Can he get fit enough though? If not, then we are still a player short. Either buy an edge player or move ET there and buy another middle player. But i have high hopes for Idris as a backrower.

8.Packer
9.McIlwrick
10.Matulino
11.McQueen
12.Idris
13.Taylor

14.Seumanufagai
15.Lawrence
16.MCK
17.Sue/Felise/Alioai/Tatola

Im happy with that

I don't like Lawrence and MCK on the bench. I'd prefer another prop or even Liddle. I'd play MCK or Idris in the centres. I think Idris is going to be better in the backrow.

The good thing is I honestly think that pack is good enough. Then it's onto outside backs, a fullback and a 5/8.

I'd also like Hoppa at the club if he plays on Sunday. It not it's not worth it.

Why not, the 3 guys leaving now were nurtured and looked after and hold a grudge against us.

And Fwiw, Cleary is the one who signed TMM while still coaching Penrith.

I think We should sign Tyrone Roberts this week IMO

Reports are he's all but done agreeing to a new contract at Titans. If true probably means elgy becomes available though.

Elgey has more missed tackles than Moses.
Not another young half who has 'potential'. And I'm pretty sure he can't kick goals.

Agreed. Same goes for TMM. We need a proven firstgrader.

Options are running out fast - we've gone from chasing Widdop, Johnson and Reynolds to Tyrone Roberts? Talk about a drop down! More players wanting to leave than come here. I'm beginning to think Happy maybe right.

Think the future will get a little darker before it gets bright for us. Most top players off contract have signed elsewhere or stayed put. Will be very interesting who they sign in coming weeks but they better hurry up because the top options available are dwindling fast.
