Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Should be some official announcements released over the next 7 days. Lolohea is done but don't expect to see him within the next fortnight. Hooper is spot on with fonua but not sure where the Corey Thompson news is coming from. Haven't heard anything there with him.

Haven't had any confirmation with packer but I'd be stunned if he doesn't sign. Offer isn't 700k a season but it is a tick over 600k. The 4 years is what's gonna get him though.

SG, 600, 700 seems like a lot but understandable in some ways. Do you have insight as to whether part of this will be covered as a Marque player allowance now that packer is an international again?
I'm sure we'd probably have the funds to do it anyway but it would be nice for some of f us to hear if deal is structured as, to provide additional funds for more depth signings or a couple of old heads.
Eastwood would be one of these? Done deal?

I'll be completely honest and say analytically packer isn't worth 600k. That being said, there's a lack of top line props on the market and the tigers have a big hole to fill and of the current off contract props he's clearly head of the pack. So what you have is 1) a need from tigers 2) a competitive market and 3) a substantial offer from his current club so when you combine those aspects sometimes you have to go a bit harder to secure your need as Tigers. 600k isn't outlandish but his rating is in the 475k range.

No idea on the contract break down for the packer deal. Haven't heard anything about Eastwood either.

Always love the news mate. Much appreciated.

Do we have a deadline on Milne at all?

Might be a tad over market value but as SG has stated we're in need of another quality prop and Packer is probably best left on the player market.

Media Watch: Wests Tigers rebuild takes shape with Ivan Cleary making big moves in player market

Source: FOX SPORTS

WESTS Tigers have started splashing the cash to rebuild the club following the devastating departures of Aaron Woods, James Tedesco and Mitchell Moses with Dragons prop Russell Packer the club’s latest big money target.

Reporting for NRL Tonight, Fox Sports’ chief NRL reporter James Hooper has revealed the Tigers have tabled a massive four-year-deal in an attempt to lure Packer to Concord to join close mate Ben Matulino in the front row for 2018 and beyond.

“The Tigers have tabled a four-year-deal worth about $700,000-a-season,” Hooper told NRL Tonight.

“The Dragons are only offering a three-year-deal.”

St George Illawarra’s offer is understood to be worth about $100,000-a-season less than the Tigers’ offer, giving Cleary the inside running to secure one of the NRL’s best redemption stories.

According to Hooper, the Tigers are also continuing their chase of out-of-favour Warriors utility Tui Lolohea, and have secured two Super League signings.

Hooper said the Tigers had finalised deals to bring former Storm centre Mahe Fonua and former Bulldogs winger Corey Thompson to the club for 2018.

Bulldogs star Josh Reynolds and the Warriors’ Matulino have already been announced by the Tigers after Cleary moved quickly to replace his three big name departures.

COWS JOIN LOLOHEA RACE

Wests Tigers have some competition for Warriors utility Tuimoala Lolohea with North Queensland firmly in the race for his signature.

Fox Sports NRL reporter Nathan Ryan revealed on Tomorrow’s News Tonight that both clubs have tabled offers to the former Kiwi Test star, believed to each be two-and-a-half years in length.

“The Cowboys have joined the table late,” Ryan told TNT.

“Lolohea is meeting with his management tonight to go through his options. We could have a decision as soon as (Tuesday) morning.”

Having recently been granted permission to negotiate with rival clubs after falling out of favour with the Warriors, Lolohea is now flush with options.

Caught playing the Mr Fix It role for much of his 52 game NRL career, the 22-year-old has played wing, fullback and five-eighth over the course of his four appearances in first grade this season.

But he hasn’t been sighted at NRL level since round four.

The young gun met with Tigers coach Ivan Cleary while in camp with the Tongan Test side in Sydney last week.

As revealed by foxsports.com.au, Lolohea is viewed by the Tigers’ decision makers as the ideal candidate to take James Tedesco’s No.1 jersey next year.

Lolohea is expected to make a call on his future this week and the Tigers are the frontrunners.

Heavily in the club’s favour is his relationship with Tigers-bound prop Ben Matulino and the fact he does have some family residing in Sydney.

While it’s been reported Newcastle have also entered the race, foxsports.com.au understands they made little more than an inquiry into the status of his contract and have decided not to table an offer.

MORE TO FOLLOW…

We need packer for a team that has a forward pack that is as scary as a under 6 girls netball team. We need a mongrel and 700 thou is cheap . Seriously if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Brushing Lovett, rankin and the other plodders will save 700 for sure I know what I would have

So was over at the dragons forum to suss out there rumours on packer. They have no idea what hel do..

Geez there idiots over there. Going on about how we will go over the salary cap in a couple of years. That were paying overs for average players..
Coming from the club who spent 1.2 mill on ben (missing in action) hunt.

There going on about paying overs for packer when it is only a 100k more which is needed to get a player to move..

Geez they have no idea..

So they're doing exactly the same thing as was happening on here re: Woods? Outrageous.

Id be delighted if we got Packer I think he's exactly what we need none of our forwards have the mongrel we've been lacking this bloke has it and then some.

The figures are always inflated. They said 700k for Matulino and the figure is now closer to 500k. I'd be surprised if we are offering more than 600k.
Packer is a weapon love him as a player.

They were openly suggesting we will cheat by going over the salary cap in a year or two. They were putting up uncorfirmed values on players we signed. Like i mentioned about hunt, honestly i have no idea what he will earn. could be 50$ or 1.2 mill. I guess i just didnt like them referring to us as a basketcase…

Yep, we are definitely lacking a head kicker in our side.

Agree, side lacks any sort of aggression in the forwards. Be good to add much needed mongrel to the pack.

Just proves how way off most are on figures being bandied around.
I would suggest that very few would have thought we would be offering Packer anything near $700k

I like what Ivan has done so far
Big Ben for Woods I think is pretty Good replacement
Josh for Moses again is good with no loss but a small gain with his aggression
Macqueen is an old head plays steady all game , adds to our team

We need one more aggressive type up fronti, Packer would suite

We need some speed
We need a solid kicker

We need a back up Prop
We need a hard running back rower

We need 1/2 dozen reserve graders on the verg at other clubs to strengthen our back up
I hope we do get the young Kiwi and also the 2 from super league it would help out nicely
