We should be really focusing on getting a bench prop instead of getting backrowers. Our backrower rotation is pretty good with Aloiaia/Lawrence and Mqueen as our starters . Then we also have Marsters/Sue/Grant as second-rowers on the bench. Along with Twal, our bench could really use another impact prop. Neither Sue or Grant can give an impact off the bench as they do minor damage. As mentioned a lot in this thread, Albert Vete would be great as he is 24, and does a lot of damage with the ball. He can also play second-row. We can also go for Joe Ofahengaue from the Broncos. He is 21 and is a hard runner with the ball. There have been rumours about Herman Esese joining the Knights for 2018\. Why aren't the Tigers going for him. He is an absolute monster when he is with the ball. He is also 22 and can really benefit our future.

The only backrowers that may have a decent future would be some of the young Broncos players. There are not a lot of good backrowers off contract in 2018 either.

I'd say more second row forwards will become available from clubs with pending salary cap issues. Will the NRL register new contracts for players such as CNN, Elliott and co until the salary cap is finalised? Tapine and Solioa are two good forwards from the Raiders I would like to have at WTs. Brent Naden from the Radiers' feeder team.
 
Tbh, I wouldn't mind Hoffman/Lewis and Gordon on one year deals on cheap money. At their age they can't demand too much coin and if they do, Tigers walk away.

Gordon can play fullback or wing and is a decent goalkicker (which we are short on).

I think Hoffman or Lewis still have at least one more good season in them.
 
Wouldn't chase Hoffman, Thompson or Gordon. Two are over the hill and the other is simply rubbish. Vete would be good.

Take the tip we are best to wait and sit tight. When the nrl sets the cap next year the dogs,roosters and even Panthers will have to shed players. Cash is king and be patient .
 
Roy Masters on the 2018 cap
Negotiations involving the NRL, players' union and clubs are expected to settle on a salary cap of $9.5 million for next year, but the devil will be in the detail.

A player payment budget of $9.4 million plus a motor vehicle allowance of $100,000 will satisfy most clubs, but prompt panic selling by those who have gambled on the cap being $10 million.
He states in his article that - Bulldogs, Roosters and Cowboys will need to shed players.

Grant and Twal are props, not second rowers…
Sue is a forward that plays prop, lock and second row.

Terrible idea. He won't be any better next year.
 
So, if Roy Masters is correct - the cap is $9.4m + $100k car allowance. Roosters, Bulldogs and Cowboys and a few others spent for $10M. So the fire sale will definitely be happening.
Would guess WT and knights would be in the best position for getting players being forced out.

Not much I would take from either side tbh

Taumalolo from Cows which is no chance. Hess is no chance either.

Dogs are full of backloaded plodders.

Roosters have no standouts in the forwards really. Napa and Hargreaves are no chance.
 
Just read somewhere that Te Maire Martin may still be looking for another club in 2018 as his mooted move to the Warriors now seems to be off and he still seems to be on the outer at Penrith. Might be a fairly inexpensive pickup. Pretty talented kid as I recall.

i'd take pretty much any of the roosters 1-17 in our starting 13.
