Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So after peoples thoughts, we have this as our populist team for 2018:

Lolo
Nofo
Milne
Suli
Naiqama
JDog
Brooks
Packer
Liddle
Matulino
McQueen
Aloiai
Taylor ©

Marsters
Twal
Eisenhuth
Benji

People who are not sure of our back up fullback of Lolo doesn't fire, we have a Tyson Gamble (who can play 1-6-7) and we have signed the Aust Junior Kangaroo fullback from the Sharks, Dylan Smith.

Reg's who missed, Rowdy, Grant, Sue, MM, MCK, Fonua, MWZ, and Thompson

Isn't there a team list thread for that..I suggest we have signed all those players for 2018..

I don't think a majority of people have opted for only one prop on the bench…

Yep Tacky if It doesn’t look like we’ll land a marque player…which is probably the case. Then a young up and coming fullback would be a good signing. WTs would be a good place for that type of player to maybe get an opportunity .

Maybe JTS? Or just someone like that who won't mind playing ISP if Tui does kick on.

No way! Matulino and Packer can't play big minutes, so we definitely need two props on the bench. Grant isn't the best prop in the world, but he and Twal are all we have to replace the starters so he must be included on the bench.

So can I, doesn't mean I should…

Thoughts? Rowdy is nowhere near my team

Good team. Suli and Fonua can swap.

Captain? Taylor or Reynolds for mine.

:righton:

I don't know what Fonua has done to warrant a start or for that matter what Kev has done wrong. Fonua to ISP and perhaps he will surprise. Suli to centre.

I agree, my argument is Kevvy hasnt done anything wrong to be dropped to ISP

He is proving to be quite a player in the World Cup and easily a slot in for Fullback

Kev has had years to prove himself and has never had any competition for his spot. His defence is terrible. Do you not watch the games? Have you seen Fonua? It takes 3 guys to bring him down. Plus, Fonua has better hair and looks mean. Let’s think about that for a minute…...

Kev reminds me of Kirk Reynoldson. He has made a career from his haircut. He will be playing in ISP - where he belongs.

Kev has improved his game and he has a spot to lose. Fonua looked great in ESL but as you know the standard there is not the NRL. No better example of this than Fonua's display against NZ when he was found at badly. Needs to speak with Hodgson and refine his game in ISP.

Kevie is not a first grade player his defence is terrible.I know he improved in 2017 but he is still below standard.Dont be fooled by what you see in WC he is a marginal first grade player at best

Disagree - have YOU not been watching Fonua's defence in the World Cup? It may take 3 guys to pull him down but he is not real good in reverse. Talking about hairstyles - prefer Kev's myself.

Kev's defence on the wing has been ok - not good at centre.

You do realise that our defence improved immeasurably (Kev and Nofo in particular) once that little "Tanker" left and went to the Eels and Cleary reorganised our defensive pattern.

I am happy to go with what ever Cleary decides - if that is Kev on the wing - so be it.

There's always ways to make room for a development player in the NRL.

You upgrade them to a top 30 contract. With 30 man squads there are probably going to be some players who get cranky about lack of opportunities so there may well be more players swapping clubs, one player leaves, you can promote a youngster or sign from outside…

Smith's very young so i wouldn't foresee him playing NRL next year, but if injuries hit and his form is good he could certainly play first grade either on a second tier or top tier contract.

Jesse Ramien is off contract at the end of 2018 at the Sharks, we should make a move on him now given they've signed Dugan and Gray for the centres and Leutele is still there despite talk he was going to the Titans. Ramien looks to have as much potential as Curtis Scott but would not carry the same price tag. Newcastle should also be looking into him considering their centre stocks…

The fact Naiqama was being shipped to ESL shows where he is in the pecking order.

But he wasn't - he was re-signed.

I know you are of a different opinion - however of the two I would rather have Kev.

I don’t think people are giving Kev the credit for improving drastically under Cleary. He earnt his extension and is the only real reserve fullback we have.
At the start of the year he was a dead set liability in defence as was Nofa but they have improved massively.

You do know that he has only played the one game?

He made the "dream team " in the super league two years in a row. Once as a center and once as a winger.

He will be a sensation in either position.

He has played only one game at that level, many in ESL. Big difference between the two which was demonstrated in his performance against NZ. Time to shake hands with Brett in ISP.
