Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Grant is on the way out given his comments. Would replace Latu who was just released. That’s good news for us I believe his option was 300k. If reports are to believed that would mean two seats on the bus 1m+ in cap room.

Yes please. Would rather free up some room for future acquisitions rather than waste it on has-beens like Grant.

We could swap him for Merrin, sounds fair.

Front rowers we have Twal, Packer, Matulino. Without Grant we then start looking at Sue, Felise playing big minutes or Aloiai, Huth playing at prop. Not keen on any of these options, if he goes we need a replacement.
Grant will have a big year as he will be chasing a contract with someone

From the The Mole …...
The Bulldogs are considering medically retiring Greg Eastwood after the Kiwi international forward underwent surgery for an irregular heartbeat last week.
The club is desperately trying to free up money in the salary cap to sign a halfback and question marks over Eastwood’s future see his career in doubt. The 30-year-old’s body has caused him problems in recent seasons - even before the heart problems a chronic knee injury saw him play just 33 games in the last two seasons. The Bulldogs’ new coach Dean Pay has decided to move halfback Moses Mbye to fullback next season, leaving him short of a number seven for the new season.
Eastwood will be on around $800,000 next season but if he is medically retired, he will get his money - but not out of the salary cap. That $800,000 will give the Bulldogs plenty of ammunition to find a halves partner for new signing Kieran Foran.

Now thats dodgy.
How conveniant that a player thats been backloaded to the hilt and out of form gets a heart condition.
You'd think the insurance investigators would be all over this.

Where are the bulldogs going to find a halfback that quickly??

More then that Eastwood could still be playing for 2 more years. Ok maybe on $200K tops but he could still be on the field. Huge backending for a player.

Knock on impact. Pearce signed with Knights and now I read some clubs are interested in Brock Lamb.

Sounds like grant is on the way out from the last few pages I've read… Not sure who's left on the player market as a replacement if grant does indeed leave..

If Sue doesn't have a big 2018 he might be at the stop waiting for a connecting bus

I think his Opal has expired

Towards the end of the year, Cleary was utilising Sue and Josh A in such a way as to benefit the team most. Sue is an impact player best used in short bursts while Josh's power running game has been a revelation and it is lucky we have him under contract.

I agree.
I saw things the same way in the last 6-7 rounds.

Sue will always be a legend for his effort against Manly at LO this year. Single handedly changed the game. Rare to see someone on our team carve up the opposition like that, particularly a forward.

Playing with injury can really turn a fan favourite into most hated very quickly. Hope Jesse can turn things around next season

If we let him go …... It would have to be a swap.!
Or perhaps the pommy option is on the table?

Merrin is a useless fat overrated softy, never did anything for the dragons but was always talked up in the press, has had a couple of decent hit ups at panthers but not many - pass!
I would chase Murdock Masilla - he was awesome in the World Cup (always had so much potential early on).

If you all remember, Ivan punted Grant at the Panthers, sounds to me he’s told him to pack up again. The only reason his still here, is 2018 was in his favour, in his contract.

if he goes i bet we have to fork up some of his contract money.

I doubt it Grant is worth the 300 he is on that’s good value for a reserve prop who has experience. If Penrith sign him they likely give him an extra year which he won’t get at the Tigers. I’d keep him before I pay any of his contract.
If he is released we must have someone in line we need the cap room for.

Pascoe might have seen the Cordner interview and pounced.

What did Cordner say?

It was just after Cronk was confirmed that he was interviewed and spoke about looking for a long term deal with a club and did not seem too fussed whether it was the rorters.
